OT - I've converted to Adidas

Submitted by MGoBender on
So, I work for a subset of the athletic department. One of (the?) biggest perks of this is that I get some sweet Adidas swag. Also, since I'm someone who attends a ridiculous amount of athletic events and is a student, I have received a ton of other adidas apparel, (more on the t-shirt end of the swag spectrum). I had always been a Nike guy, even outside of my Michigan gear. Pretty much every pair of shoes I have bought since I was 12 have been Nikes. Last week, 11 years later, I have bought my first pair of Adidas. They looked better, they felt better, and they were cheaper. It was a no-brainer. So, I've come to the realization that even though my closet is full of M adidas gear, this was the first time I straight up picked adidas over Nike. And it made me think, and you know what? I kinda like alot of the adidas stuff over Nike. In fact, the only kind of gear I could think of that I still like Nike more than Adidas was soccer gear/apparel. Anyone else been converted? Or are people still staunch in their Nike belief?

In fact, in over 40 years of active sports, I've only owned one pair of Nike running shoes. For running I prefer Brooks and Adidas Boston Classics (now getting hard to find). M chose wisely before it was fashionable to change.

except the cut of the tees... I've noticed that the collars of the UM tees are cut pretty high and can be a little uncomfortable against the neck. I won't presume to be an expert on garment design, but the Nike tees were a bit more comfortable.

It is growing on me, but some of the first passes for new gear after the change was made were truly heinous. Some of the stuff at M-Dean still makes me cringe (too many fonts, futuristic-looking lettering, etc.), but I think they do have some nice gear. Looking forward to the new stuff for fall.

...user for all my soccer gear since I was in grade school. Stuck with them when Nike made their push, but to me adidas is the classic soccer equipment provider. Plus, I'm old school and like my Sambas and Stan Smiths for casual wear.

...to operate these: as a Coastie, eh GA? Seriously, to get one of those bad boys out of the cell takes quite a team effort between the VLS GMMs and the SPY, Computer and FCS/ORTS Aegis FCs. What an agonizing half second between "Engage SM" and "whoosh" but what an awesome feeling when the birds (and now eagles) fly.

I've been practicing with a .40 pistol, a .308 rifle, and a 12ga. This coming deer season will be my first at age 30, better late than never I guess. The thing about all those gun clubs is that I really don't give a crap about the social scene, I just want to shoot. Ideally, I would just have a massive back yard in the country somewhere.

Adidas can't seem to figure out how to make soccer shoes for people with larger feet (I wear 14's). You can find Copas that size but they are narrow as all hell. Is it so hard to make a shoe proportionately larger? I prefer Puma for soccer shoes. The Kings have never let me down.

could never wear them, I've got a wide foot (12 EEEE) and I've had to wear New Balance forever. The Warrior cleats that NB makes are great. I also like the new Adidas stuff... glad they didnt even try to touch the most perfect jersey in sports (the home Blue) Even though the piping on the whites has changed, I think that's where the changes are ok. The away jerseys arent nearly as untouchable as the home jersey in my opinion.

I switched to Adidas training gear at some point 6 or 7 years ago and never looked back. Their mesh shorts, moisture-wicking shirts and track pants feel lighter, more comfortable, more classic designs than Nike. I still buy Nike gym and running shoes; the Lunar Trainer series are very good quality for gym-wear and casual running (2-6 miles). For more serious running I usually wear Brooks Launch or my Vibrams. For seasonal running gear, I'm definitely a North-Face man.

Where did that come from? IMO, north-face makes some of the best running gear out there; super light-weight and durable shorts and wind-breakers, etc. The flight series stuff is excellent. My opinion, for what it's worth: not a 280 lb. Sig (but borrowing from Seinfeld, not that there's anything wrong with that...).

I've noticed that sometimes, the particular cut of a shoe is perfect for my foot. I'm going to go with a shoe I really like, if it fits and wears well, regardless of the maker. My wife loves New Balance, but when I got a pair, it didn't fit my feet as well as my previous Nikes. I do like some of the new Adidas clothes, etc.

I used to be strictly Nike only too but switched to almost Adidas only a few years ago. I love their golf gear and also their tennis and training gear. My golf shoes looked cooler, fit better, were more comfortable and cheaper than my old nike shoes. Their golf shirts were also better made although not sure they were any cheaper. They do tend to fit a slightly thinner frame better which is good for me. I also like their workout gear and their tennis gear. Some of their designs are a little too out there for me but nike is just too boring and overpriced.

I once had a pair of Adidas running shoes. The quality was very poor and they gave me the worst blisters ever. I don't play soccer, but as far as I'm concerned Saucony and/or New Balance make the best kicks out there. And don't even get me started on those godforsaken Converse All-Stars...

Im still Nike all the way. I have always rocked Nike since i was in elementary. Whether its tennis, hockey, golf, running, work out gear or just comfortable sweats,i go with Nike. I don't think i will ever convert. The only adidas i have ever owned was a pair of sambas in like 3rd grade, which were nice, and a Nigeria World Cup warm up i bought in England. I do have narrower feet so i don't have the problems that others do with Nike. I also think that the stuff they make just looks cooler. And how can you go wrong with a pair of Air Force Ones or Air Max 90s. they are tight. For me, i have alway viewed Adidas being MSU with Nike being Michigan. They are the little brother. (even though sparty wears Nike where as U of M is adidas. Oh yea, I have no problem rocking Adidas gear for the Maize and Blue.

Running - Asics, Gel Frantic and an old pair of Nike Shox Sneakers - Adidas (Michigan Originals, they're sweet. Can't find a picture atm, sorry) Tennis - Wilson (they were cheap) Golf - FootJoy Dry-Joys. They can't be beaten if you ever golf early in the morning when there's lots of dew. Overall, I find Adidas shoes to be kinda uncomfortable. I prefer other brands, but it's no biggie since I'm supporting my Maize and Blue.

I keep finding shoes and buying them and discovering they're Asics. that might sound asinine but i end up just pulling the shoe out, trying them on, deciding if i like them and buying. what's on the box comes second. and that doesn't mean i'm hipster/tragic cool. oh forget it.
