OT - How Hot is It? It's So Hot That...

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

I don't know about you guys, but I can take the cold a whole lot better than the heat.   Up north here it was mid-90's where I was and even now at 9:30 has only cooled off to about 75.   It is so hot that the chickens don't want to lay eggs and milk production is dropping too.   The only good thing about the heat is that we've had enough moisture that the corn is looking wonderful.

So the questions are:

1.  How hot is it?  It is so hot that....

2.  What are you doing to beat the heat?

Have a great weekend, and indeed, beat the heat.

I am in the construction business, and spent my day atop a 3 story home, with a black roof, building a new tourer 35 feet in the air. Temp gauge read 120 at 1:30, tough way to earn a buck!!!

9 out of 10 sparties around here are t-shirt fans that can't tell you when their last claimed national title was, or how many conference titles they have.

I'm not sure how many actual msu fans there are even are. You can't judge it by their attendance at games, because they only show up for one or two games.

Mysteriously, all of their shit that they displayed on their cars and chests in 2011, disppeared in 2012. Hm!

And they wonder why no one respects them or cares about them outside of MI.

And Green St? That's over by the water.

They'll scatter like cockroaches exposed to light once they lose to Michigan or have a bad year.

Never fails. I remember all those people coming out of the woodwork when they got off to a fast start in 2005. 4-0 and #11.....until we beat them.

Then they all disappeared until 2008. Funny.

It's so hot that this feels like every day in Florida during the summer. For someone who lived in Florida for 4 years, it's not that hot to me

Michigan FTW Again

Here in Florida, it's been in the mid-90s for some time now. Hell, my pool hasn't been colder than 92 since early May... When winter comes back in February and it drops below 70 again, I'll dust off the sweatshirt; but, until then I'll be out in the sun, sweating and loving it!

That I told my in-laws "thank you" for the offer to stay another night in their cabin, but we were going to call the vacation quits a day early and head home to the air conditioning

the chickens are laying hard boiled eggs.

Beat it? Go to the big lake of course, then no farther than sister's house on Lake Muskegon where it's usually 15-20 degree cooler until about 10:45.

I work in a warehouse. 9-5 during the summer given that classes aren't going on. It's about 10 degrees hotter than the temperature outside.

So yeah, 104 today. Not great, Bob.

One can only put so many fans in front of their face. And then you realize you're just cirulating hot ass air in your face.

Similar story to being in a hot building. I work at a chemical processing facility. Most of the units are held in a building. It's typically 120 in the 'cool' side of the building during summer. After being in there an hour and then walking outside to 90, I get chills. It's a weird feeling.

NYC is really, really hot and humid these days. In the summer the tourists come in and the residents flee on the weekends, as I don't think there's a real good way to beat the heat in the city besides blasting the AC unit and sitting on your couch. High tomorrow is 97 and it feels like you're walking into a sauna stepping outside. If someone were designing a personal hell for me, it'd be waiting on a subway platform in late July for a train that never comes.

Just another reason I can't wait for fall.

High Peaks region of the Adirondacks: it might have hit the 80s today. High of 77 tomorrow, 80 on Sunday for the ironMan.

So, I'd say it's so hot that if we get two more months of this perfect weather, it'd just about make up for the godawful nonexistent winter we didn't have.

115 this afternoon in phoenix with about a 10% humidity.  But it's the desert so we expect these types of temps.  I'll take the heat over the cold any day of the week.

Several years ago, during a heat wave like this, I had a temp job working in an auto parts plant. I baked swing arms for sun visors in an industrial oven, trying to get them to conform to specs.

The job lasted for five weeks, and I lost 11 pounds in that time, mostly sweat. If I wore a dark t-shirt, it would be white-streaked from the salt.

The funny part was when the engineer in charge of the project (UM grad, and a good guy) asked me if I'd like a full-time job. He completely understood when I laughed at his offer, saying, "I know, but I had to ask."

I had a great time golfing today...granted it was hot as hell. However, if you consider this our winter months like those in the midwest...we are near the time where it starts turning in our favor. Granted I love and miss the Fall...but I don't mind the heat while I am in the pool and work all day in A/C, but that's just me. Sunny most days is hard to pass up...even when it's hot compared to gray during the long winter in the midwest.

is true- 115° here in Phx is much more tolerable than 90° with high humidity elsewhere. You don't get all wet and sticky because everything dries so quickly. I lived in New Orleans for several years, 95° with nearly 100% humidity- that was miserable. You couldn't breathe, and you had to take three showers/day.

One thing I did do: Installed a ductless minisystem A/C for the bedroom. We can keep the rest of the house at 80°, but cool the bedroom down quickly to the low 70's at night.

It's so hot that I honestly considered building a fire in the fireplace so that the house would cool down a bit. The A/C only does so much after a certain point.

I also made the mistake of doing a little mulching, and I even waited until about 7:30 PM - still pretty damn hot. The bags of mulch that I let bake in the Jeep for 4 hours? Well, my car smells a little loamy at the moment, so the windows are cracked.
