OT: Help a fellow M Grad Entrepreneur - Vote for LightHeaded!

Submitted by WolvinLA2 on

Hey everyone - a good friend of mine, David Golbahar, needs our help.  He is a Michigan grad class of 2006 and the President of Alumni Club of Los Angeles.  He has started a company called LightHeaded that will design and produce decorative illuminated football helmets.  Naturally, they're starting with Michigan helmets but will offer all teams eventually.

Vator Splash is a huge event for start ups in LA where they can discuss their technology, get noticed for funding and learn from successful entrepreneurs.  Click on the link below and vote for him!  I've seen the plans for the company, trust me, it's cool and you'll want to buy them.

Best way to check out the company here:

Also check on the facebook page for his company here:

David is also close with a number of former M athletes who live in LA, including Chris Perry and Donovan Warren, both of whom think LightHeaded has a bright future.

Thanks!

I'm neither aware, nor fully aware of our helmets being "feminized." What are you talking about? Did he replace the wings with Victoria's Secret angel's wings, but it was such a secret that nobody saw it? Did he and Brady and Brady conspire to put Giselle on the helmet without my noticing it? That might not be so bad!

Hi All -- These are replica helmets that simply light up your man cave. Not looking to change anything.... just making them a bit brighter. Thanks for all the support. Would love you all to vote to get us in front of the competition.

I went to the Facebook page but didn't see any lighted helmets. Where can we see them? Maybe I'm just dumb, don't have a Facebook account, don't really use it.

I didn't see them on the page either, and I am a regular on Facebook because my rather dispersed family basically teleconferences over Facebook sadly.

In any case, it sounds intriguing - I would definitely at least check it out - and I do like to help out fellow Wolverines - I did vote.

Thanks, WolvinLA2, for letting us know.

It's unfortunate that so many sites demand you sign up just to vote and help somebody out (or for similar causes). I mean, I get it that its good business for them I suppose.. but it turns people awa. I'll be honest, I was about to vote, went to the site, and it told me to create an account. I'm out. I know it's easy to sign up, but its annoying hundreds of accounts i never go back to all over the internet, and receive their spam.

best of luck.

@Deltroit3030, I appreciate you taking the time to vote! I understand where you're coming from. I can't change that. They're trying to keep it to real people voting.

I hope you check out Kickstarter campaign when it comes out. Feel free to follow us on Facebook for updates. It's great to see the Michigan love. Go Blue!

Your product looks pretty cool, but the way you approach getting it funded makes you look like a desperate Advocare rep.  Pandering for votes on a message board completely cuts off your credibility at the knees.  I think the idea is good, but find a more viable way to get your name out there.  I'd be hesitant to go into business with someone who has a half baked Facebook page and attacks marketing like a first time mom trying to get her kid voted in as the new Gerber baby...

Sorry if my assessment is a little rough, but I think it's something you may need to hear.

Don't pay too much attention to this.

I've been involved with multiple startups and know probably 100s of startup founders and barely a day goes by without hearing from someone asking to vote for something. Its very much par for the course, even for companies that have been around for years.

But its always good to grow a thick skin early -- you'll get plenty of cynical "advice" like this, especially in the beginning, when everyone thinks they are smarter than you.

Good luck.  Sounds like something I'd like to add to my man cave when ready.  If you ever need a man cave to demo a Michigan helmet, my basement is free.

If you ever need urine to test the waterproof capabilities of an OSU helmet, again I'm free.

Message me, I can help, but I've been in the start up, emerging growth and VC space in SoCal for years and I have no idea why he'd go this route.

but like the poster above i'm not crazy about having to sign up. I will be a customer however and tell my GF to buy me one for Christmas and it can be like a nightlight in my man cave.

Good luck!!!

Hey Dustin, I'm still waiting for an invite to whatever M game you decide to have a BBQ for, bring George Foreman too!
