You are a better man than I.
Not because you are giving up MGoblog for lent mind you, but for opening yourself up to the pummeling you are about to recieve.
God Bless.
*Edit Got my first "trolling"
...What? I'm Catholic too. Ouch.

Probably a good time to give up the blog...football season's over, the hockey team sucks, and basketball only gets interesting after Easter anyway. No need to tell the kids that, though.
And probably still a more sensible idea of mine, which so far looks like it's going to be coffee.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:11 PM ^
Your post reads like Hunter S. Thompson's suicide note.

I tried this last year... I lasted one week.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:45 PM ^
You've somehow equated MGoBlog to "The Bachelor" and "Greys Anatomy"......{astonished silence}

February 12th, 2013 at 5:56 PM ^
I hate to put it this way but the likely truth is you've been had. You know your wife will probably just go catch up on all the episodes she missed after Easter. Or, even better, make you get her the Grey's Anatomy Season Whatever Is Right Now DVD for her birthday.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:50 PM ^
I'm right with you there.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:45 PM ^
I was here to flame you until I saw what you traded it for. Good deal.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:45 PM ^
It is a worthy cause, but I really don't think we need a thread about what your giving up for lent today. It might fall under the No Religion/No Politics clause.
February 13th, 2013 at 8:30 AM ^
Check it out sometime, you may like it.

I'm an Atheist.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:49 PM ^
Congrats on the kids, condolences on being catholic
February 12th, 2013 at 6:06 PM ^
Tasteless joke is tasteless.
Replace Catholic with Muslim in Michigan Arrogance's comment and how many posters would just jump down the throat of the poster with claims of racism, etc.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:11 PM ^
Congrats on the kids, condolences on being jewish/muslim/scientolgist/voodoo/jedi/protestant
February 12th, 2013 at 6:12 PM ^
honestly, I take that back. If you are a practicing Jedi, I think that's pretty badass.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:30 PM ^
...this is not the MGOBLOG comment section you are looking for...

Sooooo sbnation, Yahoo! Sports, and cbssports.com are still OK?
February 12th, 2013 at 5:51 PM ^
Man, you're a stronger man than I. I'm giving up pizza.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:52 PM ^
The thought of the real Lord Voldemort giving up Mgoblog for lent to appease his wife makes me giggle a little.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:54 PM ^
I gave up Lent for Mgo about 4 years ago and haven't repented a day since
February 12th, 2013 at 5:55 PM ^
I also have three daughters, but am choosing to give up playing "Pretty Pretty Princess" for Lent instead.
Yes, that's a real game. Dads know what I'm talking about.

UNWELCOME, KTHX
- Politics
- Drew Sharp, Ace Williams, Mike Valenti. Saying stupid and/or false things about Michigan in order to get Michigan fans upset is a tried and true way to phish for clicks. Let's not feed the trolls.
You make up the rules around here now?
February 12th, 2013 at 6:09 PM ^
but this is to some extent worse than politics. There have been posts regarding Sharp, Ace Williams and Valenti since the FAQ was posted in '09. There was a religious post deleted just yesterday.
Rules should be enforced evenly. Whether or not the OP is able to incorporate the blog into his religious practice is irrelevant becasue the nature of the post is still religion.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:11 PM ^
And religion without any agenda attached to it is not in the smallest bit inflamatory. The poster is not stating his views on abortion or contraception, he's relating his religion to MGoBlog. How is that in the slightest bit offensive?
February 12th, 2013 at 6:17 PM ^
it may well be to others. Lent by its nature is overtly Christian. Whether one wants to give up the blog, or booze, or speaking unless spoken to, it is still done to serve a religious purpose.
My point is that if this is allowed than where should the mods draw the line? Would the OP simply need to incorporate the blog in some manner to make it a postable topic?
February 12th, 2013 at 6:26 PM ^
I don't make the rules nor do I enforce them. But if I did, I would let a tangentially religious post stand if it A) involves the blog and B) does not delve into potentially divisive religo-political issues, such as abortion, etc.
Just can't see how this post could be inflamatory to anyone, it's a guy sharing a story about giving up MGoBlog for a month.
February 12th, 2013 at 7:47 PM ^
do months have 40 days?

February 12th, 2013 at 8:20 PM ^
and I think you're taking things way too seriously. Those who understand Lent, not saying you don't, just stating my opinion...those who understand realize that giving something up for Lent is designed to be a sacrifice. The reason for that sacrifice is not as important as the reason that giving up something that may be a vice, is indeed important to you. The original poster is stating that MGoBlog is that important to him that he's making a sacrifice to do without it as a gesture to his wife who is giving up something similarly important.
Stop wrapping so much resistance to your posts and just realize the personal motivations behind the statements people are making. He was in no way advocating his lifestyle on anyone, nor should he. Just ease up and take it in stride, huh?
February 13th, 2013 at 8:34 AM ^
Are you saying this post actually OFFENDED you? Learn to laugh every now and then, it may remove the stick in your ass.
February 12th, 2013 at 7:12 PM ^
the moderating team views politics and religion as the same category. That's not an attempt to equate the two other than they're personal opinions that are likely to cause the board to go haywire if they're insulted/someone else has a completely different outlook.
February 12th, 2013 at 7:09 PM ^
it would have been deleted right away, as it will if it becomes a forum for trying to convert people to Catholicism or bashing a particular religion. So far, both the post and reaction seem like appropriate board material.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:59 AM ^
As an atheist, I'm not sure I agree.
I see your point: the mere mention of religion, like politics, can cause some unseemly behavior on the board. I freely confess, I came here to see if the post was overtly religious and to comment if needed.
However, the tone of this post does not seem to be inflammatory or overtly religious enough to require removal. To me, the post is more about trading MGoBlog for The Bachelor/Grey's Anatomy and a "goodbye" from LordVoldemort. I'm ok with live and let live in this case, but I do agree that it is better to be more restrictive (to prevent harrassment) than not.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:05 PM ^
I'm giving up fap for lent. as a 17 year old boy this could get hard.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:34 PM ^
I did this in 8th grade in an attempt to get my first ever handy from my girlfriend. It didn't work...
