OT: Friday Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by Broken Brilliance on April 16th, 2021 at 6:41 PM

Mates,

Another week bites the dust. Just finished grilling some dogs for the wife and I and made some home made coneys. Getting ready to crack the first beer of this spring eve. My leadoff hitter for tonight is "a little crazy" IPA by Revolution Brewing. We've got a late night game between the Tigers and Athletics later.

1. What's in your cup?

2. What's on the menu?

3. What's something that made you feel grateful this week?

4. How bout them Tigers? Got annihilated last weekend and then swept the Astros.

For everyone who couldn't make it to the thread, hope you're doing well.

4. Current baseball bores me. Watching games from 80s and 90s. Telling kids to get off my lawn, Yelling at clouds, and binge watching Seinfeld.

I had my best years hitting fly balls at the polo grounds. Quite right. Below is my bit from a previous post on opening day (in July, last summer).

"NY Giant great Mel Ott who was born in 1909 in Louisiana.  When he was 14 years old he started playing semi pro baseball.  The Giants had him for a tryout and signed him in January of 1926 at age 17.  He went directly to the big leagues that year and was a regular by the  age of 19. Hit 511 career home runs while standing 5’9 and weighing about 170.

He was a player manager during the 40s and was known for his laid back style. He was the subject of the quote “Nice guys finish last”.  Although he was the first manager to be ejected from both games of a doubleheader.

After retiring the Tigers hired him as a television broadcaster in the early 50’s.  He was replaced after 3 seasons by George Kell.  Who coincidentally suggested to the Tigers that they should hire a broadcaster by the name of.....Ernie Harwell.  So in a way you could draw a line from Mel Ott to George Kell, to Ernie Harwell.

....and now you know ...the rest of the story....good day. "

If you don't watch Los Tigres this season you'll miss seeing the development of some of the youngsters before they become stars.

Some of them, such as Riley Greene, Matt Manning, Isaac Paredes, and Spencer Torkelson are still in the minors. OTOH, Casey Mize, Tarek Skubal, and this year's phenom Akil Baddoo are in the bigs and already making some noise.

It's called "growing pains" but unfortunately doesn't include playmate Julie McCullough.

I forgot all about Turnbull being on the mend until shep and jack brought it up last inning. Urena might be fighting for his spot in the rotation tonight after how Fulmer looked the other night. We should see Joe Jiminez at some point this weekend too! Can't wait to go to Comerica next weekend.

Lucky dog!

I haven't looked yet into going to Comerica but I guarantee I will once we get consistently better weather.

Just today I circled next Wednesday on my calendar and noted it on my phone calendar so I get a reminder to go online and buy Whitecaps individual game tickets.  Want to catch some early-season minor league games to get a look at Tork and some of the other youngsters.

The Whitecaps got moved up to High-A this year with the reshuffling of the entire minor league system by MLB, and I suspect that if Torkelson starts well he'll quickly get promoted to Double-A Erie this summer.

1.  Community Mosaic IPA Pale Ale from here in ATX.  Eight point nine percent, two 19 oz cans, < $7.

2.  Some pesto chicken, pre-fab from H.E.B.  Wrenching all week, not up for cooking.

3.  Nearly done working on an e46.  New cooling system; sourced and hopefully fixed the OFH gasket leak.  Owner seems happy I walked him through the issues.  Car out of my garage, getting paid tomorrow, flying out to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday for R&R on a busin-cation.

4. Listen on the radio over Sirius XM.  Usually most of the games though I live out of state because its the sound of summer in Michigan.  DD is still great, the other half should be updated.

Thanks for posting good FDT questions, I'll be back.

Panther Cub from Founder. Not bad but I don't expect to be seeking it out.

Watching Mariners Astros muted and listening to Brothers Comatose, a recent discovery for me.

- Get yourself an extra firm block of tofu and place it on a paper towel lined plate, couple layers deep.

- add another couple layers of paper towel on top of tofu block and then put a plate on top and weigh it down with a bowl, or something a little hefty...for 15 min (could also use tofu press but i don’t have one)

- after 15 min, take tofu block and cut into 1x1in cubes.

- take cubes and place in large bowl and add 1tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of avacado (or olive) oil, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Gently fold to mix until all pieces are covered....marinate for 15 min

- place tofu into air fryer at 400 degree temp for 10 min. After 10 open up and shake it up a bit. Then put on for another 10 min at same temp.

- should be close to done by now but maybe need a bit longer depending on air fryer. Ninja is what i have so should be similar.

i like my tofu a bit crispy so i air fry mine for a little longer, so keep checking til your likeness.

take those bad boys out , lay over rice with hot peppers, onion, chili sauce, little more soy sauce and it’s a heaven IMO

can easily double recipe, i always do.

If you give it a go, let me know what you think!
