OT: Favorite Dorm Memory
The other day, my buddy and I were reminiscing on some of the good times we had in the dorms. I think it would be interesting to hear some stories from some of the mgoblog crazies...
Best dorm memory during your time at the university, go!

Lots of sex.

Ugh. I was waiting for "that guy" to post here. Yes, people have sex in college. Unless you're still in your teens, it's time to stop talking about it.

Watching my malaysian friend Darryl get so high that he needed to masturbate when someone mentioned Madonna's name. After that he needed help to his room. Pot is a drug. A wonderful, wonderful drug. This went down in Kalamazoo...WMU's Harrison dorm. Everyone remembers Darryl...he's money as fuck.

Your boy Darryl reminds me of this cat named Fleming I went to UM with. Kid loved his weed. He would smoke it practically everyday...and when his boys would come up from some suburb an hour north of Detroit, that's when things would get CRAZY!

Alice Lloyd. I was involved in a series of pranks with a bunch of my neighbors, who were all guys. They tied my door shut by roping my door knob to the stair railing around the corner so I couldn't get out. They got into my room and put shaving cream in the ear piece of my telephone and then they would call me - pretty lame stuff. I decided some payback was in order. I blew off my classes one day and instead, popped popcorn. It was like a huge garbage can full of popcorn. At about 1 AM, I went to their door and taped across the frame of the door from top to bottom with duct tape, leaving a small opening at the very top. I dumped all the popcorn into the opening at the top, filling up the space from the bottom up. I then called them to wake them up, and then knocked on the door. When they opened the door, all the popcorn fell into their room, and to make matters worse, they were completely taped in.

I'm not sure if this was my "favorite" memory as I'd rather share a NSFW story, but watching Carson Butler rage stomp (donkey kick to be precise) a dorm door was pretty remarkable.
The story:
Carson came into West Quad screaming/yelling/causing a scene very early in the morning and some kids in the basement yelled "shut the hell up" to the guy waking them up. Unbeknownst to them, it was big Carson Butler and he came running down the stairs to "confront" them. To make a long story short, the kids barracaded themselves in their room while Carson tried to bust his way in. It was both hilarious and scary at the same time. Good memory.

I was just visiting Couzens one time (I lived off-campus for most of my time at Michigan) as a friend of mine was an RA and we had the pleasure of listening to two people in an adjacent room go at it during one point in a conversation, complete with exclamations of "OH GOD!". At one point, one of us broke in with a loud, "YES, I AM HERE..." and the noise from the adjacent room suddenly halted. About a minute later, a door opened and shut nearby and there was some stomping down the hall.

I lived at MoJo for two years. I am a year younger than those guys; this was my freshman year, their sophomore year. My roommate was a sophomore from Inkster. I decided to roam the halls a bit and see if I could spot the celebrities.
I reached the first floor by the staircase and Jalen, Ray, and Jimmy were there. One was sitting on the stairs, and two were sitting on a table facing the stairs. This was a big deal to a wide-eyed freshman.
Runner up: my solo karaoke of U2's "Desire" at the end of year party; I am not a great singer but I was the first person to get up there who could carry a tune at all, so I got a lot of applause. People who had seen me in the hallways all year without recognition were suddenly saying hi to me.

My friend was coming back to her room after showering and for whatever reason her towel slipped off. She quickly grabbed it up and spun around to make sure nobody saw her.
Unfortunately (or not so unfortunately), when she turned around she was greeted with that signature grin from none other than Denard Robinson.

And I will never forget being in the elevator with the Fab Five. It was ridiculous how big those guys were. I remember Sam Mitchell being there too. I also remember Chris Weber hiding in his closet during a fire alam in the middle of the night. I have no idea how he ever got close to fitting in there. Lots of good memories including the tournament runs. I probably still have VHSC tapes of all the celebrating all over campus and then being tear gassed.

Definitely not the favorite but spending a night in the Union basement and other places on campus (UGLI, NYPD, etc) after WQ got evacuated when Justin Feagin tried to burn it down.
January 29th, 2015 at 12:29 AM ^
I lived 2 doors down from Feagin when that happened. The dumbass who set the fire didn't even get the right room.

Feagin attempted to set fire to a dorm resident's room over drug money issues. I think Feagin was to bring it up from Florida and that kid was to distribute it. Or something. I was there as well. We were in the Union half the night. Before engineering exams.
"Worst prank fire ever" my roomates and I said. We had no idea.
This led to Rich Rod booting Feagin from the team.

Found a (now former) hockey player sleeping naked in the bathroom one morning. Good story. Strange experience.

Another story about them is that they snuck a quarter barrel into Michigan Stadium. They did it by hiding it under the seat of a guy (not actually handicapped) in a wheelchair. We did keg stands during the game.
Oh they also stripped a Miami (YTM) fan of literally all his clothes as he cheered in the student section. His underwear was in shreds.
Sorry for the non dorm stories. I got carried away.
January 28th, 2015 at 11:49 PM ^
and the 4th floor guys were happy to help out.
I think I heard about the quarter barrel story at the BIg House. Was Arv your RA? He was there for like 10 years.
If you ever road tripped to Camp Randall back in the day, they took football drinking to a whole elite level.

West Quad slingshots. Surgical tubing and funnels. The tuning was held on either side of the window frames. Designed by engineers and operated by football players who would pull the funnel back until they almost reached the hall, launching water balloons at South Quad. The launch force was so hard that the water balloons would sometimes break at the launch. We did manage to break a South Quad window with a water balloon so that stopped that activity.
Also fixing the phone so it would keep ringing even after it was taked off the hook and pennying the person in the room while thr phone continued to ring for an hour.

I was going to type the exact same thing! I lived in WIlliams House from 78-80.
One of my best memories was on my first day in the dorm decorating my room with 100's of SI covers I collected to make a giant mosaic. I was standing on a chair reaching up to tape one cover on the ceiling and this giant hand came over my shoulder to help me and then I hear, " Hi I'm Paul Heureman, nice to meet you". I was a rabid basketball fan and just about shit in my pants. He lived with the Bodnars and they couldn't have been nicer hallmates. Great guy except his son is the OSU tight end.

Rumsey, Fall '76 and Winter '76. My floor had Harlen Huckleby and Russell Davis along with Curtis Greer and several other football players. Hell of a dorm basketball team made up of football players.
January 28th, 2015 at 11:20 PM ^
All State basketball players who also happened to be on the football team.
The strangest dude on my hall was a kleptomaniac from East Lansing of all places. He worked in the Chem lab and I think was the inspiration for Breaking Bad. ANyway he stole all sorts of surgical tubing and funnels and we shot oranges from the middle of West Quad into South Quad causing South Quad to retaliate on Rumsey House, which resulted in all sorts of craziness and perhaps some arrests. To quote Animal House, we were up on the roof saying, " THIS IS GREAT!".

I think it was a 32-man bracket with the finals on the lounge big screen. I got knocked out in the 2nd round. The winner was a guy that used to do time trials all day and would reset if every turn wasn't pixel perfect (he ended up dropping out because of the game). That game was a great community builder, even for someone like me that didn't play it much.

early, they put us up in east quad until 'regular' school started and the other dorms were open. note to future administrations: don't put the hockey team all together in one living space for any period of time. without school actually started, we got into lots of trouble over there. only the punishment of off-ice training kept it from really getting out of hand. i still remember having to run the stairs at the football stadium for 20 minutes at a time. you try that in august. you won't like it any better than we did.
January 28th, 2015 at 10:45 PM ^
and were pretty good friends (he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet BTW). Anyway, our floor was having a bit of a squirt gun fight and I bombarded into Lamarr's room, shot him directly in the face from like 5 feet away and then ran like hell. He ran after me yelling and threatening to beat me, caught me in the stairwell and gave me the largest bruise I've ever had. We had a pretty good laugh after.
Other than that, West Quad was a pretty boring place to live. I did enjoy the snowball fight with SQuad, although Braylon Edwards was a HUGE asshole during it and took the whole casual fun thing way too far.
January 28th, 2015 at 11:31 PM ^
Also I beat Rumeal Robinson in nerf hoop around the world. He said I had a better touch than him. Cool story bro.
We also "snuck" a keg we stole from a frat party into West Quad. To "disguise" it we put a Twister mat over it and when the RA confronted us we simply said we were going to play twister giving him weak plausible deniability. We carried that keg a long freaking way.
