OT: Dark Lord Day

Submitted by Tom Pickle on

Any one venturing out to Three Floyds on Saturday for Dark Lord Day?

I'd be more than happy to share a few beers with some mgobloggers.

Lulz I was just reading this thread on BeerAdvocate.  Jealous a little bit of missing out on a variant but man, it was my first time last year and I'll fully admit the weather was a bitch and dampened my fun.  It looks like it'll be the same and I can't say I'll miss that.  I'll try and trade for a couple bottle of regular DL to keep the vertial going.

Sorry to butt in to your conversation here, but Toppling Goliath got my attention. Not a hop head by any stretch, but I'm a huge stout guy, and I've heard wonderful things about KBBS, Mornin' Delight, SR-71, etc. I know these aren't easy to get your hands on, probably regardless of how close you live, but any chance you have "access to" any of these or have one or more in your possession that you would be willing to part with?

Cool event, but Dark Lord beer itself, eh, not so much. The variants are better, but honestly even those are overhyped.  For example, BVDL: not nearly the beer that Vanilla Rye or FO is.

Enjoy.

Meanwhile in Tillamook...

You know, the weird thing about Dark Lord Day is that you want to bring the Dark Lord flowers or perhaps some donuts or bagels for the entire workgroup, but you can't quite bring yourself to do it because perhaps that will be seen as weakness and you will be dealt with appropriately, usually with a spell that turns you into something quite useless, much in line with the Dark Lord's view of you.

Have fun, folks.

I'm not sure I'd ever go to DLD or Huna Day. Not that I don't like imperial stouts, but I can't see myself pursuing them to that extent. I'd love to hear about your experiences though.

I went last year and it was an awesome time. As a tip, bring along a couple of rare bottles of different kinds if you have them. There is a big tradition of swapping sips in the lines, so if your willing to let some strangers try whatever you have, you can pretty much try every other kind of rare beer on earth. Good luck on getting a golden ticket!

I love Three Floyds but only get a few types down here in Louisville.

I've only ever had Gumball Head, Robert the Bruce and Dreadnaught.

Hoping for some Zombie Dust some day... never even heard of Dark Lord.

It says on their site that it is a "year round beer." If I swing by the brewery on my way up to Michigan (I drive up to nearly every home game) would they normally have it? Or is it one of those things like Founders KBS where it is there today and gone today?

is not dark, but as to the beer you are discussing, do they make any type of true ale/bitters/lager?
