How to put this eloquently......omg.
If it's as good as the last one...I'll need two months to recover from the awesome
if you go into it thinking it's going to be better than the last one, you may be disappointed. Kind of like Return of the Jedi when it came out. Still an excellent movie, but when compared to Empire, it doesn't look so good.
Essentially, it's not often movies are as good as The Dark Knight, and expecting this next installment to be on that same level might open you up for a letdown, even if it is still a pretty good movie in it's own right.
(I'll be going to see it sometime next week, and my expectations are through the roof, so I suppose this post is as much for me as anyone else)
Still a good movie, but not as good as people made it out to be.
I agree. Think it got overhyped because of Ledger's passing - although he did turn in an awesome performance. I think Batman Begins is every bit as good as TDK. But I'm also a sucker for almost anything Batman having read 40+ graphic novels and still watch Batman: The Animated Series from the early 90s. Not gonna be able to see TDKR until Tuesday, which sucks.
Overall, I think I will throroughly enjoy TDKR. Bane was a very brave choice of villain IMO, but Nolan has the chops to make it work. He's also staying on as a producer for when they revamp the series.....which is weird.
I didn't know that. What's the plan for revamping? I love all things Batman. Very intrigued!
I still think that Batman Begins(I loved it) was a better overall movie. I feel Nolan tried to put too much into DK and wasn't able to develop everything as well as he should have.
I laughed out loud when I saw this. Wiggles got "not the beating he deserved, but the one that he needed"...
Bane's not gonna get beat up by a bunch of stone age teddy bears. Right?
Too much hype, it will be a let down though still a good movie.
While maybe not quite as good as "The Dark Knight", it is very close. I was really excited for this movie and was not let down at all.
Can't wait, though I expect that The Avengers will remain as the biggest movie of the year, even with TDKR.
But Nolan will not let us down. Bane will be great, the doom and gloom is going to be awesome, and I will be very sad walking out of the theater when I don't have another Batman to look forward to.
We will revisit Gotham sometime soon. I mean, you've got Catwoman (there still hasn't been anything approaching a good catwoman movie), Nightwing and a host of other heroes. Shoot, they've developed Comm Gordon so well I could see him getting his own movie outright, though it'd be a traditional action/thriller.
Seriously, though, Catwoman hits the same heist that a bigger adversary, say a realized (less comical) version of Riddler hits. She's the anti-hero, so now she can do just about any badass thing she wants while Riddler & thugs try to have her killed. I dunno. I just don't think we're done with Gotham.
They are also revamping the Batman series much like what they've done with Spiderman. And DC wants a Justice League movie eventually as well. So I imagine we'll still be seeing plenty of Batman and Co. in the coming years.
I have no use for the new Spiderman movies and I think that the studios will find that these reboots will flop. We're not talking art-films where different directors interpretations are key. These are money-grab reboots that have been crowdsourced.
I should note that I have no problem with remakes and reboots, but give it a couple decades. Allow the technology and culture to advance and change our views of what something can/should be.
I completely agree with you. But these movies will probably still be wildly successful at the box office because people are suckers for super heroes.
Has pulled in half a billion dollars worldwide, the planned triology is probably going through. Even if it's not as successful as the previous movies. The world market is just so much bigger now, no matter what the bean counters say, it's really hard to lose money on a movie once all the foreign, tv, and video rights are paid for.
I'm guessing a movie like Spiderman is attracting a big chunk of its audience from teenagers. Those kids who were 4-6 years old when the first Tobey Maguire movies came out probably don't view the new one as being rushed, but as something completely new.
I think we're also seeing that there is always a market for these characters, and an enormous one if the product is actually good. Hell, the few people who still actually read the comics want new stories about these characters on a weekly basis. And even if it sucks, you are going to get just about everybody to at least see it once (in the same vein, we'd all probably go see a new Star Wars movie if it came out, if only to confirm that it sucks and vent our collective frustration at the screen).
I liked the leads, but a lot of the movie fell flat for me. But from most of the reaction I've seen, I'm in the minority.
All reviews have said it's good while not being able to live up to TDK, which is understandable considering how incredible it was. I work early tomorrow so no midnight showing for me, gonna try to see sometime over the weekend though.
If you don't end up liking the movie don't worry, they will reboot the franchise in a year
My friends really want to go to the midnight showing, but I'm not to keen on the idea. I'm just out on the whole going early and waiting in line deal. I think I'm going to give my ticket to my other friend who actually really wanted to go.
I don't mind seeing it a week later when I can just go and find a seat without waiting for hours.
It will get re-re-booted again after the Spiderman franchise is finished re-re-booting as a trilogy and the Superman series is almost finished being re-re-booted, opening up the airspace of demand for a Batman re-re-re-boot.
I'm mostly looking forward to seeing LaMarr Woodley on screen.
That isn't the point. This trilogy will be hard to top. Even worse it could go back to being awful like the George Clooney, Val Kilmer versions.
I saw an early screening last night, and for 3 years I said TDKR could never iive up to The Dark Knight. Personally, I thought it was fantastic, if not better than The Dark Knight. At the very least it will not disappoint you, and I suggest seeing it as soon as possible.
If you never saw Batman Begins though you may get a tad lost, he references it a bit.
I will be going at Midnight tonight dressed as Robin. CANT WAIT!
NTTAWWT, but if I had my choice of who to bump into at the theater tonight, it'd be this
I am not a woman BUT I will be wearing that costume tonight. Do you still want to bump into me?
....which of the costumes did you say you're wearing tonight?
For some reason my work computer won't display the bottom image, only the top one. If that answers your question.
You aren't at Henry Ford right now are you? There is a Robin in line.
And who the hell thought it was a good idea to have us wait outside in the rain?!?!
Definitely going to be bitter sweet. While I imagine it is going to be amazing, I'll be quite sad once the credits roll knowing that Christopher Nolan will never helm another Batman film again. That being said, as long as he keeps making movies, I'll be quite happy.
Going to the 12:01 tonight.
Taking the Bar Tuesday and Wednesday, so Wednesday night for me. Can't wait!
If you don't know what the iPic is check it out. You can pick your seat online and mine happens to be a recliner.
I hope Nolan uses a lot of the Knightfall books for this movie because I loved the comic series.
Might I suggest "No Spoilers" in the title. Then there can be the inevitable TDKR thread in which people discuss the movie after they've seen it.
I saw TDK and can't remember too much about it except that everything was.....blue. Like they filmed the movie and then put a blue filter over it.
Haha, yes...It seems like alot of action movies now have a blue/silver tint. I just came accross this:
I know Nolan said he wanted to model TDK after the movie Heat, which I remember had a bluish tint to it. Much like he wanted to model Batman Begins after Blade Runner, both of which were very dark in color in general.
I haven't heard if Nolan had any "screenings" prior to filming Dark Knight Rises, but I know he used Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities as inspiriation...
Going to the Dark Knight Marathon in Grand Rapids tonight, starting at 6:30. Can't wait!
What have you been up to since 2008???
Little did I know that they sold out in 27 minutes...
Now if I can just manage a nap before then. Movies almost 3 hours. At least I took off work to sleep in and catch a little Art Fair.
I'm excited to see the Man of Steel trailer that is attached to the Dark Knight Rises.
I was a huge fan of the Christopher Reeve movies (and will even defend III and IV if pressed) and the last movie was just awful. Between casting Kate Bosworth (who looked 12 years old) to play a grizzled veteran reporter who was supposed to be 5 years older than the already weathered Margot Kidder from Superman II, the extensive brooding by the Man of Steel, and (as Kevin Smith has pointed out) the failure of Lois Lane to freak out when (remembering that she'd had her memory of their romantic encounters wiped out in Superman II) she realizes she has given birth to the child of a superhero with whom she has never (in her mind at least) had sexual relations.
Really hope they don't screw it up again or just follow the Batman formula and go for a super-dark Superman.
And when did all our superheroes become British?
Might make it a little more interesting to me. I'm a huge Superman-hater though, so I'm not optimistic though. I was disappointed that Nolan took this project on as Superman has always been a total ninny in my mind.
And when did all our superheroes become British?
I'm glad that I am not the only person kind of annoyed by the fact that all of these American superheroes are being portrayed by non-Americans.
When I watch a movie about England, I expect the actors to be English. When I watch a film about Australia, I expect the actors to be Australian. And, by God, when I watch a movie about superheroes (an American invention), I expect the actors to be American.
For James Bond to be American.
that has to be some kind of record, doesn't it?
Not if we are talking about Michigan jerseys selling like hot cakes in Ohio
Never thought about that, but now you mention it...
British = Batman, Superman, Spiderman
Australian = Thor, Wolverine, older Hulk (Eric Bana)
Even our superheroes are being outsourced!
Going to see the trilogy tonight in IMAX starting at 6. Can't wait!
Going tonight at Midnight, it should be a really good time! I loved the Dark Knight. Nolan and Bale do a great job.
no midnight for me :(... 10pm tomorrow
It was amazing. Not going to say anything other get ready for almost 3 hours of exactly what you were waiting for.
IMO, they tailored the spiderman movie to the teen demo: basically Twighlight, but with spiderman. dissappointed, and I wouldn't rec it for anyone over 20.
can't wait for batman tho.
I'll fess up: I am quite excited for the movie and will love all of it but since she's not doing Ann Arbor like she teased us on her Chelsea Handler interview - I'm as much as anything else going to see Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. I think she's an absolute doll and having never seen the Disney movies she did as a child, I'm not spoiled on her the way you would be with a young girl you know growing up to be a beautiful woman. (You know, the 'Nooo! You're not supposed to be hot!')
At Rivertown Crossings Mall! Can't wait!
then you can geeet out!
My theater is doing a Batman marathon!! We just finished Batman Begins and are about to start on The Dark Knight. I think DKR will be very good but not as good as The Dark Knight just because Heath Ledger is not involved. Nerd out!
If this is true you are a complete asshole
I haven't seen it, but he dies in the end
You fucking suck. Whether you're joking or not you are an asshole. I had not thought at all about any surprise endings, I had not thought of anyone dying, but now I am. Even a day later I cannot forget I read this. Now I'll go into the movie half expecting something to happen and if it does I'll be totally deprieved of the surprise because I truly didn't even consider something like this.
Worst State Ever shirt spotted at NCG Trillium Grand Blanc. Should be a great movie. Line is long as expected
that was amazing.
Of All Time!
