He isn't from Texas but coached at Tech and Houston for almost a decade.  Supposedly loves Texas and the Houston area.  Plus, why not trade a team with poor in-state talent playing in an odd-fit conference for a team that should be the top of their conference most years, with tons of local talent, and tons of resources to grow the program.

We should hire for our OC Major Applewhite or Steve Sarkisian?

No, we shouldn't.

Both of them are inferior OCs.

Falcons fans HATE him because he took over an elite offense (which he inherited from Kyle Shanahan) and Atlanta's offense has undeniably regressed.

For further proof of Sarkisian's suckitude, I encourage you to examine Sarkisian's HC tenure Washington as HC versus Chris Petersen's HC tenure at Washington.

Sarkisian failed as HC at Southern Cal for f***s sake. That's akin to Brady Hoke failing at Michigan.

And Applewhite isn't anything special. He knows it himself. Hence, he hired Kendall Briles (who *is* an excellent young mind on offense) to be OC and it paid off handsomely. Willie Taggart recently hired Briles to be OC at FSU.

I don’t think either party is all that upset about the break up. He’s been on and off the hot seat the last few years. Would be replacing his great Qb-WR duo so maybe he thought the timing was good. Win 9-10 games a year at Houston - very doable - and he’s got job security for life.

RR is not a good coach and that’s not just because of the fiasco at Michigan. He does not develop QBs. Anu Solomon regressed and Khalil Tate got worse the longer they were in RR’s system.

His spread offense is run based and while it invented the modern game it’s not special anymore since everyone runs zone read/read option/RPO now.

Name one QB he had that could throw and carve up defenses with their arm...

Rich Rod will go down as one of the pioneers of the zone-read spread offense; not a bad legacy to have. However, starting at Michigan and for the rest of his career, he will also be remembered for:

  • exposing QB’s to excessive hits once his offense became more mainstream and defenses caught on
  • not incorporating new concepts to his offense to keep teams off balance, such as: the Urban Meyer power run scheme, RPO’s or some air raid tendencies

Maybe I’m a spread honk but I think if he could’ve been willing to slightly deviate from what made him famous it might’ve bought him more time despite the stench of his Defense.

I get your point, but lets not talk about a team game against MSU.  The only person on the entire staff and roster that showed up to play, and actually tried, is DRob.  Everybody else - including the band and cheerleaders - mailed it in.

(I just incurred the wrath of Bando, didn't I?)

I would be shocked if Rodriguez went back to WVU.

I spend summers in WV, and I hear people talk.  They still seethe with anger about Rodriguez and his departure in 2007.  I've seen sweet church ladies turn dark with emotion when the topic of Rodriguez comes up.

They love their Mountaineers in WV ... but not that much.
