No waves for Kareem?
OT: Congrats to Lebron
Get that shit outta here
"A man does not appreciate a Lebron sympathizer"
Who woke up this morning!
It is truly astonishing to see such a freak of nature like lebron james. He can play all 5 positions and guard all 5 positions. I do not get the hate for this man, he is a great ambassador for the game.
And he appears to be a genuine nice guy. The profits from his "decision" all went to a local charity, he has stayed connected to the Akron youth programs he supports, smiles during boring sports interviews, etc.
No gambling issues and bitter feelings like MJ.
A minority of the profits from The Decision went to charity. I thought that was common knowledge.
Not to mention they only went to charity after the backlash her got for making a profit off of the decision.
That's not true. It was announced during the decision that they were going there. You may dislike him but that isn't really a reason to "hate" him.
I actually dont dislike him at all.
And I realize that it was announced during the program, the backlash for the monetization of the event came earlier in the week and it was only then that he gave some to charity.
With most others, I wasn't a big fan of "The Decision" (or whatever that circus was called), but LeBron looks like a low-maintenance, psychologically functional person when compared to Kobe and (especially) Jordan.
As ever, it's not actually him that people hate, it's just the hype.
He is more on the Boston-NY baseball treatment by ESPN problem (hyped beyond belief whether or not one is winning), but it is the same concept as Tebow fatigue. I think few if any would argue that Tebow isn't a very high-character kid (even those that don't share his his religious views), but the incessant praise and attention makes a significant section of fans want to push back.
I don't think anybody would deny that LeBron is a top player, but getting force fed LeBron leads to backlash. As others in the thread have noted, this is especially true after off-the-court attention grabbing like The Decision (tm) and some of the advertising campaigns that portray LeBron as some kind of victim.
23 will always be King.
Pete Maravich was pretty amazing.
I heard that Russell fella was alright, too.
It's a Lemon-Lime kind of morning.
I think he will go down as ONE of the greatest, but still has a ways to go to catch Jordan in my mind. He is the YOUNGEST to reach 23,000, but he was younger when he entered into the league than Jordan (as was Kobe). So, he may be younger, but it would be interesting to see how many games/seasons it took him compared to Jordan.
- Chamberlain 586
- Jordan 717
- James 837
Waves at Kobe*
I didn't realize this was MGoESPN. Nobody cares about a stat that proves he didn't go to college like MJ.
But Kobe didn't go to college either.
Congrats to Lebron makes about as much sense as "best of luck" to recruits that don't choose Michigan. Who the hell cares?
Why do people always have to say "best of luck" to anyone who doesn't pick us? If they go to OSU or MSU I hope they go 0-48 for their career.
Magic kobe mj
Those are my top three and lbj will not never touch
Is this a haiku attempt?
A true Michigan fan would not have Magic anywhere up there. Please go back to RCMB sir
I am a die hard Michigan fan and lakers fan. I like magic bc we attended the same middle school and high school.
A die hard Lakers fan from Michigan. How cute.
You delight with every post
Idk. I am really not sure he is even the best in his generation. Kevin Durant is pretty amazing and a more complete offensive player. I still think he will continue to get better and better while I feel like Lebron is basically what he will be here on out. I don't even think Oberon can take over a game like Durant.
You have a right to your opinion, but I don't think Durant is anywhere near LeBron's category in overall game. Is this even a discussion?
I dont know, enough Oberon can take over a lot of things
EDIT: And now this doesnt make sense. Either way, I'm going to go have an Oberon.
Lebron can play all 5 positions and guard all 5, how is Durant more complete?
It pretty well known LeBron is a Ohio fan...Get this Shit out of here
Yes but he didn't go there so I'm fine with it
as the "What Should I Do?" ad campaign. He's still a douche that contributed heavily to making the NBA unwatchable for me.
On the other hand, any douche that can make Ohio hate him that much can't be ALL bad. So I can see why others at least sympathize with the guy.
I don't see how he is a douche. Douche moves would be like you know raping a girl, cheating on your wife, getting one of the greatest centers of all time traded and being considered a complete asshole like Kobe. People take pay cuts to play with Lebron James.
Uh, the fact that Kobe is a douche doesn't mean LeBron isn't. They're not mutually exclusive.
Dr.Buss is on record stating that he would not give Shaq anymore money.
Shaq has also stated the same.
Kobe is not a saint but he wasn't responsible for Shaq leaving. They ran with the "Kobe pushes Diesel out" story because this place loves drama.
this place = LA
Even worse than "What Should I Do" was "We Are All Witnesses." Boy did I hate being told "you're living in LeBron's world and you are privileged to do so."
is this a topic on MGoBlog? I am about as anti-Thread Police as they come, but honestly, who gives a f*** about how many points Lebron James has scored?
Lebron is a great player. What will always keep him behind Michael for me is that he could not build a winner. He had to jump ship to a winner. Michael willed his team to become champions.
One was in chicago and one was in cleveland. It is hard to bring in players to cleveland. Chicago didn't draft dennis rodman, they got him from San Antonio. Who did cleveland give lebron? A crippled Shaq? Mo WIlliams? Delonte West?
I think Michael won a 'ship before Rodman but I'll have to check.
He did, but to say that jordan won those ships all on his own is frankly just not true.
Nobody wins championships on their own. That's why other players are on the court
Rodman won his first with the Bad Boys in 89. MJ won his first in '91.
Look at their rosters...who was lbjs pippen? Mo Williams? Don't act like they had the same rosters, you can't blame him that the roster assembled around him was crap. Do you nullify Kobe's titles because they involved trades to get shaq and gasol. He didn't "build" the team in house.
look at the championships that kobe won when it was shaq's lakers and say they don't really mean that much towards his personal (weak) claim to being the goat.
Cleveland guy and avowed Lebron hater but I think these pictures are interesting.
Here is Lebron as a Senior in High School
Here is Lebron last year
Must be all that super good nutrition he's getting now. No reason for the NBA to start testing for PEDs. Everybody knows only baseball has that problem.
Do you consider everyone who isn't fat a suspect in a PED conspiracy? Because Lebron isn't exactly "jacked"; he's just what it looks like when a skinny athletic boy grows up.
You do know the NBA doesnt test for PEDs right? At all. Take a look at the body shapes, muscle definition and average arm size of the 1993 Dream Team compared to the version on display in 2012 and tell me what conclusions you draw.
Tattos are more popular? :)
Do you not think there has been any changes in nutrition and workout regimens in the past decade-plus?
Man John Stockton got tan.
That old school 7,8,9 though
93 team would kick their ass
wrong, that was him as a 14 year old freshman. Yeah athletes being in great shape, who would of thought that?
That top picture is not LeBron as a senior...I played against him in high school for 3 years and those are the uniforms they wore his freshman year.
I stand corrected on my picture selection - you're right, I chose the wrong year. However I dont think the right year shows much difference from what I originally posted do you?
Jesus man, you are a HATER. That's still not him as a Senior.
Are you seriously arguing that his body transformation over the last 14 years could not have happened without ped?? That's pretty ridiculous. Look at the weight gains by our own players like caris and stauskas and that was over 1 summer in college. Come on.
No - I'm going to argue that the NBA as a whole is baseball circa 1997-98 with players getting huge for no apparent reason and everybody looking the other way. I'm going to argue that Lebron is symbolic of that "good nutrion" muscle mass growth and his body change might have something to do with the lack of any sort of organized PED testing in the NBA.
I admidt to being a Lebron hater and now I have to admidt to at being shitty at Google searching "Lebron James Senior High School" images but for me at least I dont think there's any debating that the average basketball player has changed a TON from what they looked like from about 1950 - 2000 recently.
If this can happen with a student athlete...
Then this can happen with one of the world's best, highest paid athletes...
Without the use of steroids.
Awful post. You're alleging him to take steroids because he has gotten big over a period of 7 years?
Oh of course not, that wouldnt be fair without any proof. Of course there is no way to get any proof given the NBA's non-testing for PEDs.
So (if you're old enough to remember) during the 90s when skinny baseball players like Barry Bonds, Sosa and the imortal Brady Anderson suddenly pumped up and started hitting home runs like never before did you think it was because of "good nuitrion"?
Jesus people I dont for the life of me understand why anybody would think basketball players are NOT taking PEDs given the lack of testing and the tremedous change in the average player's bodytype.
That's a lot different than an 18 year old kid gaining
Ten. I agree, what a ridiculous allegation.
I like most of your content, but this is arguably your worst comment ever. I, personally, have gained over 60 pounds of muscle since high school (currently 28 years old) and I've never taken anything more than whey protein, and I am no longer a serious athlete by any means.
Most high school kids, especially athletes, are beanpoles. Just the way it goes...
Thanks but trust me I've made far, far worse comments. This is just me on an "anti-PED" soapbox for the NBA. Look, I lift too and have changed my body type but the lack of overall awareness of the NBA's increadibly lax PED policy coupled with the perception that baseball is the only sport with issues just amazes me.
I'm curious where you got that picture. Is it from Lebron's freshman year? Dude was already a man child as a senior in high school
Yup. As a senior I think he had 2-3 tats, had to wear bandages over them. Don't see that hear
inshapemom? I can't imagine her opinion would be any more naive Just looking at HS and current pictures of Lebron tell us nothing. LMAO
More impressive in my opinion
Who cares about the NBA?
Fuck that Ohio fan...this is MGoBlog!
Can't respect a player who wears a headband.
The hatred for the best basketball player since Jordan is hilarious. Some of the older people need to just let up the hate and realize LeBron is going to be one of the GOAT.
But it's ridiculous to compare two of the greatest of all time players who come from completely different eras of basketball. Too many rule changes to do that. However, can't wait until technology improves enough to provide an accurate cgi'd game between all the greatest players throughout the nba. Just hope the White Mamba doesn't throw down on everyone too hard
The 5 position is very weak these days..back in MJs day LebRon would have got worked guarding 5s like The Admiral, Hakeem, Ewing..LeBron is great and being the youngest to 23k is nice and all but MJ is still the GOAT...won 6 in a row basically would have been 8 had he not left.
Wait. The NBA is still a thing??
Congrats to him, but it's no wonder in a league that doesn't play defense.....
Fuck Lebron. Jordan would've done it earlier had he not went to UNC. And Lebron plays in a very different NBA than Jordan did. The defense in today's nba is non existent.
Dude is not the GOAT. Stop
Obviously points aren't anywhere near the whole story but that was the topic of the OP, so here goes:
Of course those losers wasted four years of their lives winning national championships (well, except for O) and getting their B.A.s.
If you're going to make a case for LeBron as the greatest, it's not going to be because of his point totals.
