OT: Columbus to host 2013 NHL All-Star Game

They will find a way to screw it up.

Putting it in Columbus has already screwed it up enough.

When you're talking about the Jackets, the term isn't "screwing up," it's "business as usual."

they have an outdoor allstar game?

What a damn joke. Bring it back to Detroit. JLA doesn't have much time left to live if you ask me. I think by the times the 20's roll around, the Wings will have a new barn.

Don't worry. It will be played here the 2nd year of the new arena.

The NHL All-Star game has basically taken a backseat to the Winter Classic at this point. The Winter Classic is being rotated around among the elite hockey markets, and the All-Star game is being rotated among the smaller (mostly southern markets) in hopes of creating a rare sell-out and drum up some interest in the league.
Winter Classic Hosts: Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit (with New York rumoured for 2014)
All-Star Game: Dallas, Atlanta, Carolina, Ottawa, Columbus (with Nashville and Phoenix expected to be the next two)

Could you imagine an outdoor Winter Classic at the Rose Bowl in January?

They have to bring in revenue somehow. CBJ is a joke! I live here, ahd wouldn't be surprised if that team is gone in 10 years or less.

will still be there in 2013.

here in Columbus so they won't be leaving anytime soon. We pay for them sadly. And yes they do suck but I am very excited to go to the All Star game next year! Nationwide Arena is a beautiful arena and perfect for the event! The Jackets fans had a protest today against the GM ownership. These fans are tired of being a shitty team but I've said it all along and will say it again. Columbus is not an NHL city it just isn't. I want the Chill back!
January 28th, 2012 at 5:55 PM ^
The city and county just bought the stadium, and supposedly included something in the contract that would keep the BJs here through 2029, but I wouldn't be surprised if the team moves or folds before that.

stay and become something else. I wish like hell they would go back to the name "Chill." I LOVED the Columbus Chill. My father was a season ticket holder every year and I must of went to every game in the Coliseum when they were at the Fair Grounds back in the day. That was real hockey back then. Intense hitting, fisticuffs that got the stands going nuts the mottos"GIVE EM HELL." "LETS RAISE SOME HELL." "BLOOD SWEAT FEAR." I use to have that bumper sticker on my dads old Chevy for the longest time. Just get rid of the name Blue Jackets. If the deal of getting the original Hurricanes here would of happened we would of won the Stanley Cup possibly in 2006. We were suppose to inherit the team going to Raleigh in 1998. Sadly it never happened and we started a new franchise from the ground up.

I remember when the Columbus Mad Cows was one name floating in the water cooler pre-Jackets. Man that would have been awesome. Definitely would have helped out jersey sales a ton. As it stands the franchise is possibly the lamest pro sports franchise in the state--not an easy achievement to unlock.

the year 2014 New Year's outdoor game in L.A..

Interesting thing I thought about when I started thinking of places the Bluejackets could be relocated to: Why is there no professional team in Milwaukee? Wisconsin likes hockey. Just seems like a potentially large market. Must not be a public outcry for a team. I dunno. More research is needed...

Admirals still and Green Bay still has the Gamblers. Both in the AHL if I'm not mistaken. They are minor league towns. I was always surprised why they don't go back to the Barons or put a team up in Halifax?

are too psyched about spending a long weekend in Columbus. You can only spend so much money for dinner at Sizzler.
January 28th, 2012 at 11:18 PM ^
Sizzler you speak of?
Seriously, I actually can't recall the *decade* when I last saw a Sizzler restauarant in the Midwest. Looks like there is, surprisingly, still one Ponderosa open in south Columbus, though, so all is not lost for the NHL elite.

to watch NHL All-Star game.

Since their inception, I have wanted to see an NHL game in Columbus and yell "Lets Go Blue.......Jackets(softly)".
