OT- Chad Morris accepts SMU job

First vacancy filled is SMU by this report. They're saying so at SNation too.
Doesn't relate to us directly, but things are starting to happen in college football.

He was going to move up to the HC ranks at some point.

I would have thought he could have gotten a better HC offer than SMU.

he really only wanted to be in Texas so it's not that shocking. I'd expect him to work his way up to a Big 12 program shortly... I feel like Kingsbury is not long for the world.

big extension as well, I believe, over the summer. Thru 2020 or close to it. Making well north of $3 million per. Cue Nelson Muntz "Ha Ha" ...

It's funny that you mention it, because I believe Morris was in fact interviewed for the Texas Tech position and then was passed over in favor of Kingsbury. It would be interesting to see him bring that offense into the Big 12 and complete the circle of teams that can, when running on all cyclinders, put up prolific numbers on each other. Of course, it might be a couple years before Morris' power run is even feasible at SMU - they are in a bit of a bad way, by most accounts.

TTU isn't Northwestern, though. It's really all about bragging rights in all those Dallas office buildings on Monday mornings and they probably won't tolerate 4 and 5 win seasons at TTU for another 6 years. Morris' offense is plenty exciting.

I don't think that Michigan will look like the dicks that are everything to do with Nebraska. That administration is thinking it is the 90's again.
There will be a graceful exit. Hoke did not succeed, but let's react in somewhat of a dignified manner.
Getting fired from a top level position is no fun. One feels disgraced.
Firing someone is no fun. One has feelings for the person who is then left with no job.

Being fired isn't easy no matter how much money one makes. The fact that someone makes many times more than you or I does not mean they are any less deserving of a respectful dismissal.

And you are right about that concept. However, I think that Hoke can be convinced to resign with a new walking away package rather than an outright dismissal by fire.

They just played their last game yesterday.
They have an Interim A.D.
They have a President who doesn't understand sports.
Their Interim A.D. was a CEO, not an A.D. before.
Michigan has no clue how to handle things.
They only have one coaching candidate.
That coaching candidate is not available yet.
That coaching candidate may not come here.
Brady Hoke is a nice guy.
Brady Hoke isn't getting fired.
Oh, fuck.
November 30th, 2014 at 2:42 PM ^
It doesn't relate to us directly or indirectly. This guy has nothing to do with UM, never did and never will.
I am not into negbanging though.
I guess I am just not that big of a fan to get excited about this kind of news.

SMU? Seriously? He could've done a lot better than that.

Phew. So we can scratch SMU off the list of our coaching candidate competitors.
Sadly, considering how Michigan's last two coaching changes unfolded, and that I am still waiting on signs that this time will be different, I have to say that comment was only partly in jest.

Maybe Artavis Scott will be so disappointed that he'll transfer to Michigan.

Tim Beckman got UI to a bowl and will be retained for next year. Tim Beckman out-coached Hoke from his spot in Cham-Bana.
What is the world coming to

Plus look at that non-conference schedule. I know we're not world beaters, but Hoke should've been fired midseason if he couldn't muster six wins against that competition.

I'd say the East is the better division. OSU and MSU might be the two best teams but after that it's pretty slim pickings in the East - Michigan, PSU, Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana.
If you give OSU and MSU the top 2 spots in the conference, the next 3 spots probably go to the West - Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and you could possibly make the case Iowa gets the 6th spot.

Part of why Briles has done so well at Baylor is that HS coaches want a fellow former HS coach to succeed. They want the "HS HC to College" to be a standard thing for successful HS coaches the same way the move up from college to pro happens for successful college coaches. Morris is going to get a bump in recruiting based on that alone.
