OT: Brad Stuart traded to Sharks
Wings get forward Andrew Murray and a conditional 2014 pick. At least they got something for him since it was clear he wasn't going to come back.

Well that's not bad, but we still a couple defenceman
I thought he was a UFA already?
Free Agency doesn't officially start until July 1st.
This has no effect on that.
This is a ridiculous case of getting something for absolutely nothing. *Hat tip*
I wouldn't call it "ridiculous." Basically, it's a 7th round pick in 2014, if the Sharks sign Stuart. The Sharks sent Murray down after 39 games, 1 goal and 3 assists, and per DetNews, he's also a UFA. Are the Wings going to sign a 30-yr old center to a two-way contract?
I haven't checked this out with CapGeek, but I suspect that one of the teams was up against the contract limit (I think you can have 50) and so Murray was included to make the numbers work.
Murray won't sign with the wings. But they just got a 7th round draft pick for free. And it's not like the Wings have had success drafting in the late rounds...
Stuart was so solid. I just wish the Wings would have be able to sign him... sometimes its hard to see these guys as people with lives rather than just players.
I always resign Stuart in NHL 12.
Woot!!! This is how I feel now that Stuart is gone.
Stuie is a very solid #4 defenseman. High character team player, shot blocker, penalty killer, throws his weight around well. Not much more you can ask for.

Stuart has been great for the Wings for his time in Detroit, outside of the last 2 1/2 months of the season. Since then he appeared that he had checked out of Detroit and was ready to move out with his family in California.
However, i am happy to see that Detroit did the right thing and traded his rights to a California team. I wouldn't be surprised if Holland asked Stuart which California team he would like to sign with if he had a choice and Holland reached out to San Jose.
I don't see a place for Murray with the Wings, we have too many centers now so i can't see another one in the plans. I like the fact we get a 7th rounder with Stuart signs with San Jose.
Anyways, good luck to Stuart and thanks for the last 3 1/2 seasons.
The Wings already said they have no plans to sign Murray. SJ needed a player to come off so they weren't over the 50 man limit.
good riddance
was not a stuart fan at all
2009 Stanley Cup Final, Game 7 is why Brad Stuart sucks. He directly contributed to both of the Pens goals.
between him and Hossa, the 2 now former wings i actually can't stand, besides abdelkader
After Kronwall, that's all you got.
You should blame the Wings for blowing a chance to clinch in Game 6 with one of their patented "wait 'til we get down 2 goals" efforts.
Blame the refs for missing a too many men on the ice penalty and other awful calls/non-calls in Game 3 which should have had us up 3-0 in the series.
Blame the Wings again for allowing a shorthanded goal in Game 4 when they had the lead, given to them on a goal by who? Brad Stuart.
Blame Bettman for pushing up the start date of the finals, to give the banged up Wings only a couple days to rest before starting the finals to "preserve the competitive edge"
I get the Hossa hate, but wow, there's probably no 2008 Cup without Stuart. And there's no Game 7 in 2009 without him.
You don't like Abdelkader? Whys that? Anyways I'm glad we got something for Brad I was never a huge fan. And you're right he did directly contribute to both of the Pens goals in 2009!
he's a goon with limited real hockey talent. If you watch the wings you know how many horrible penalties he takes - especially in his last 2 playoff series.
Abdelkader - went to little brother school , and i think he is soft and overrarted and hasn't played good in the playoffs....i think he is soft...
Not really sure how a 4th line role player can be overrated. He's there to be a checking forward on the 4th line. Drops the mitts when called upon.
Yeah, he stands up for his teammates. I like that. This team needs a physical edge.
Abdelkader - went to little brother schoolConsidering that he led them a National Title victory I wouldn't call those teams little brother
Have done nothing since except make a hilarious coaching hire.
I liked Stuart up until this year, but the guy absolutely had to go. He looked like he was asleep out there. I guess you could say that with this trade, his body is simply catching up to where his brain has been for months.
See ya.
