A former University of Michigan football player already serving prison time for prior convictions was sentenced last week on a count of assaulting a prison employee.
Boubacar Cissoko pled guilty to one charge and received a sentence of 22 to 38 months that will run concurrent with his previous sentence of 19 months to 15 years in prison.
...I don't know what to say...I keep hoping this kid's gonna rebound from all of this and then something else pops up..
December 15th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
to have it run concurrent and not a tacked on minimum.

I liked him, this is the ultimate downward spiral.
December 15th, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
You liked him? Give me a break you didn't even know him.
December 15th, 2010 at 11:28 PM ^
Are you telling me you've never used that phrase for an athlete you didn't know? I'm not really sure I believe that.
December 15th, 2010 at 7:21 PM ^
Mean streets got hold of him early, and he could'nt shake em.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:18 PM ^
It's kind of surprising that they keep reporting about him. Hasn't it been like 15-16 months since he was associated with the university?
December 15th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
Yes, it has been. Are you really surprised area newspapers are following a former UM player who ends up in prison?
December 15th, 2010 at 5:22 PM ^
After this much time, yes.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:33 PM ^
Really? He's been gone for what, 18 years?
December 15th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
and played the Michigan card hard while running for office.

I guess the difference is that Plaxico and Clarett were big name stars for their respective schools, while Boubacar played a few uneventful games for us.

Good Lord, if the Detroit area news was in Florida they would need an entire section on the arrests that happen every season!
December 15th, 2010 at 5:16 PM ^
D'Antonio hasn't offered him a schollie yet. He seems to fit the only criteria...

and scrolling looking for the joke, and yes, here it is. Thank you, sir.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
It's such a sad situation. I just hope he eventualy learns his lesson and can become a productive member of society.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:29 PM ^
sentence of 19 months (or ~1.5 years) to 15 years? That range is insane.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
Exactly what I was thinking. So if you make a Red-like speech about being contrite it's a year and half, but if you don't it goes to 15 years?
December 15th, 2010 at 6:33 PM ^
i presume it's a range between his lowered plea offer and all of the charged crimes back to back consecutive.
December 15th, 2010 at 6:46 PM ^
I think it's because of the possibility of parole. By contrast, in the federal system, you get a definite sentence with no possibility of parole.
December 15th, 2010 at 5:35 PM ^
The chances of this turning out well are pretty slim at this point. I wish him the best.
It isn't fair to expect the program or a coach to guide the behavior of every player, but I hope they at least took a look with an eye toward possibly identifying someone in a similar situation in the future.
Continuing to identify him with Michigan just suggests that Michigan by it's mere mention sells more papers than the writers best efforts.
December 15th, 2010 at 6:17 PM ^
Former Michigan players aren't off-topic. I really hope he turns his life around... but I've posted that several times before, and things just keep getting worse.

in the sense that this most recent crime, the assault on the prison employee, happened this past summer. It's just the slowwww grinding of the judicial system wheels.
His descent seems to have been so quick that I've wondered if there are legit mental health issues with him. Clinical depression, bipolar disease, that sort of thing. The chances of anything really being dealt with medically in prison aren't great, but I think it does merit checking on.
December 15th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
most prisons have very good psychiatric care facilities in place. There are so many inmates with mental illnesses that it'd be impossible to keep order in the prisons if they weren't providing medication and therapy.

leading the story with that fact really does change the tone though. Don't be so damned sensitive.
December 16th, 2010 at 12:44 PM ^
The only thing that makes this story newsworthy IS the fact that he's a former UM player, so of course they're going to lead with that.
December 15th, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
I hear Dantonio's been recruiting him pretty hard in case he makes early parole.
December 15th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Its a shame he won't be able play any away games except to Ann Arbor
