OT: Another Cougar sighting in the U.P.

Before you click the link, let me stop you if you were hoping to see a beautiful woman of age. Instead, I’m speaking of the feline carnivorous type. Personally saw one about 17 years ago on Stonington Peninsula at my family retreat. I believe these sightings will only become more frequent as their population grows.

They've been all over the UP and upper LP for decades, despite the denials from the dnr. I got lost hunting once and happened across cat paw prints as wide across as my size 14 boot.

Nearly peed myself and was sure I was going to be eaten

They acknowledge they exist in the UP. They have a website dedicated to reporting sightings.I've reported one on M28 between Munising and Marquette. Mean looking bastard.

What they don't acknowledge is any sort of den or permanent population, which to my knowledge hasn't been successfully challenged. All documented cougars have been categorized as roaming.

There don't seem to be many sightings in the same area for very long, which leads me to believe the DNR is correct.

Could there be some permanent populations in some of the remote areas of the UP? Absolutely. But nothing is proven.

I'd almost bet my pinky fingernail that a cougar resides somewhere between Craig Lake state park and the Huron Mountains.
