OT: ALCS Game 3 Open Thread

The Tigers NEED a win today with Verlander on the hill. Especially the way Game 2 went.

I look at it like this: Now that we've avoided the curse of the sweep, let's take three and not have to go back to Boston. The Sox have yet to figure out our starting pitching.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:11 PM ^
Papi looked really confused by that Benoit change over the heart of the plate that tied the game.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
Benoit didn't exactly start the game.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:47 PM ^
He certainly didn't end it, either.

As dominant as the Tigers starting pitching was in gms 1 and 2, it didn't matter. The series is tied. But congrats on those strikeouts!
October 15th, 2013 at 4:15 PM ^
I hope we throw three straight CG wins on their asses
October 15th, 2013 at 4:18 PM ^
October 15th, 2013 at 4:57 PM ^
That's correct. Scherzer's superlative start in gm 2 was wasted. You're aware of how it ended. But I'm not exactly disappointed with how Lester pitched in game 1 and as shitty as the offense played, the tying run was on second for the final out. As for the balance of the series...your confidence is sexy.

Good thing they grasped at enough straws to lead the league in runs this year. Which, granted, makes the Tigers starters that much more impressive so far.
October 15th, 2013 at 1:22 PM ^
You seem very angry, but I am in agreement with your "Go Tigers!" Let's hope they don't need Benoit.
October 15th, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
During a meeting this morning, I was sort of drifting between matchup stats and probability predictions - both Massey and TeamRankings are giving the Tigers about 55% for this game, with a median score of 4-3. Regardless, a win today would be nice indeed - a classic JV performance? Sounds good to me.

Pretty hilarious that Red Sox players are whining about Peralta playing when Manny failed multiple drug tests and anyone with half a brain knows that Ortiz took PEDs.

About the fan from Barstool Sports Boston:
It was pure instinct. He did what he thought was right in the heat of the moment. He was making a point. At worst it was a dickhead move. At best he won the game.

Or any of those "Sports sites for Men" to be honest.
They're all horrible

The vitriol is a little strong. I read the links but its not so far away from the Malice at the Palace and the question on everyone's mind if we are fortunate enough to win the series is how many days will Detroit burn.
Go Tigers.
October 15th, 2013 at 1:56 PM ^
Between JV and Max we cover three games of a potential 5 left. Add 1 for Fister and 1 for Sanchez and I think we'll get to 3 wins.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:01 PM ^
October 15th, 2013 at 2:05 PM ^
Give them their solidarity thing man, as immaterial as it may be. The are victims and they'll give up on it when it doesn't conjure wins.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:13 PM ^
I don't mind that so much, I only minded when some holier-than-thou columnist (usually a Yahoo one hunting for pageviews) would take fans in (for example) Chicago to task for holding up signs that said things like "Chicago Stronger." Oh, so despicable, they would say. How dare they. IME (and many others as well) if you use it to brag about your sports teams, it's fair game for others. I don't even think it was a lot of Boston folks being offended so much as columnists presuming to be offended on their behalf.
October 15th, 2013 at 4:02 PM ^
I feel the same as well about the whole phrase... The only way it seems to be used these days is to support Boston sports when it should really be used as a way to remember those who lost their lives or were injured. Also, the fact that companies are making money off of the whole thing as well is really stupid.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:07 PM ^
I have faith in JV, but why in the hell does Leyland always pull Veras early? Let him get a couple of outs/end the inning, he literally cannot be worse than Porcello od Smyly on any given outting

As a Yankee fan, I'm relieved that people can finally see through all the the b.s. feel-good "red sox nation" propaganda. That bleacher dickbrain is the true face of the sox fan. And it is why Yankee fans loathe them. For this series...Go Tigers.
October 15th, 2013 at 2:57 PM ^
The Yanks and the Red Sox have won a shit ton of games over the last 15 or so years. That would be a big reason why people hate them.
And, please, let's play the "pick a random dickhead out of the crowd and make him the face of a group of fans" game. Always a favorite.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:06 PM ^
I wouldn't have until there started to be other people who stood up for the guy. I don't know how many it takes to start representing a fanbase, but the more "Angels of Fenway" there are, the less anyone can get away with calling it isolated.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:11 PM ^
Ok. But the next incident at CoPa exposes your logic.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:16 PM ^
OK. Let me know when racial epithets are hurled at opposing fans at Comerica and internet wackjobs stand up to call the racism justified and then my logic will be nice and exposed. Can't say I've heard of such a thing yet, though.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:22 PM ^
I will. I'll listen closely. Because Detroit iand racism have never been mentioned in the same sentence. Right?
You shouldn't have gone in this direction with your OP.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:29 PM ^
Because at some point in the history of the city, racist stuff happened, so nobody's allowed to accuse anyone else of it no matter how racial the comments? OK then.
You're painting the discussion with a far broader brush than you accuse me of doing.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:35 PM ^
Seriously? You're making broad generalizations about a fanbase based on morons at the park and a shitty blog. Your OP would have fit in nicely at Barstool.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:49 PM ^
Ummmmmmm, hello?
Did the actions of a few fans make the entire Detroit fanbase a "trashy, racist," "moronic prick fanbase"?
Also, the fantastic Oral History from Grantland in case anyone forgot:

I don't really recall anyone getting up and patting the guy on the back for throwing a beer.
October 15th, 2013 at 4:03 PM ^
It's over. Just do a little better with your OP next time.
October 15th, 2013 at 3:44 PM ^
What annoys me about Red Sox fans is not so much that their team has won a lot, but that they try to play the underdog card because their team isn't quite as rich as the Yankees.
Yankee fans can be smug, but they don't make any attempt to cry poverty. In the end I find them the more tolerable of the two.
October 15th, 2013 at 4:01 PM ^
This is pretty common and I tend to agree with you. As a diehard Red Sox fan I hate it when our fans cry poor. I think the Red Sox should always use its financial advantage - market, stadium, tv and history - to its competitive advantage.
However, the Red Sox aren't close to Yankees in salary this year (or any year, for that matter). In fact, the difference between the Yankees and Red Sox in salary is usually the entire salary of many small market teams. This year, the $70 million difference is more than the salary of the bottom six (6) MLB teams. For your reading pleasure:
2013 Rank/Team/Salary $$
1. NYY / $228.99
2. LAD/ $216.3
3. PHILLY / 159.58
4. BOS / 158.97
5. DET / $149.05

Does anyone happen to know a decent site to stream it on that isnt in like, you know, Russia? I know you can pay the 4.99 at mlb.com for "alternate views", but I'd like to be able to watch the actual fox feed my last couple hours at work. TBS had an app for a live feed, but I haven't been able to find a similar one for fox.

vipboxonline.eu will have it for sure

Thanks! Working great. Looks like the work day is ending early today.
October 15th, 2013 at 4:24 PM ^
It's working terribly for me on multiple machines and is also reported as working terribly by a couple of friends in completely different locations. Is anyone aware of anywhere else to watch?
[Not saying you're wrong, and thanks to the previous poster for posting the link.]
October 15th, 2013 at 3:05 PM ^
There's no MLB.com "Postseason.tv" for the ALCS. Just a radio feed and the "AtBat" app.

Wow...strong Red Sox hate here. Does anyone realize that we have Boston fans here as well? I understand the majority of the board is going to be pro-Tigers, but there's no need to call us a "moronic prick fanbase". It makes you look like a moron, OP.
That said, go Sox!
