OT: 2022 #1 overall recruit Travis Hunter expected to decommit from FSU and commit to Jackson State and Deion Sanders

According to Steve Wiltfong on CBS Sports signing day live stream. Would be absolutely massive get for Coach Sanders and the HBCU community at large

Yet!  My wife is a Seminole (and she is from Tallahassee to boot) so FSU is the passion for her whole family.  So I spend a lot of time following them as a second team.

We have been saying for months that Deion will be the coach of FSU starting in the 2023 season and he is going to be AWESOME.  I have already posted this a couple of times on here.

He will bring in some X and O guys and with his recruiting, they will clean up the state of Florida and be a title contender against from 2024 and thereafter.  Take that to the bank!

Good question.  Maybe his schtick is too much for most programs?  He has done a great job at JSU and would be an elite level recruiter.

Florida and Miami would not have hired him for rivalry reasons.  USC was already set on Riley and he is not a cultural fit at Oklahoma.  Those make sense, I don't know why he didn't get mentioned anywhere else.

Unless everyone is thinking the same thing as me and they don't want a one year rental when he will obviously end up at FSU?

Would love it if you were right (I live in Tallahassee). But didn't they just hire Norvell's Louisville boss as AD? That suggests some longevity for Norvell, who has the exact same record--I am told--as Willie Taggart did at this point in his tenure. I see that Norvell's just got extended for just a year, which might be calculated to suggest he's on a short leash, but I have my doubts.

Fill me in further.

Ummm I was asking about what time the show is starting at the AA Civic Theatre tonight. Should've just googled it. Oh wait... Wow I see that some people think I was referring to Dion Sander's nickname. That's funny, you guys...

Since you're dropping this here, and recently called me out by name in a thread I was not involved with and there attacked my character:

Your accusations about my lack of integrity regarding my former position about Harbaugh are false. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you just haven't bothered to read various threads, rather than that you're being dishonest about it, so: Here's the coaching snowflakes thread after OSU. Why you read other threads in that time period and skipped that one is unclear and irrelevant. Your characterizations about my various other approaches to Harbaugh are also false, both before the OSU game and after. I don't blame you for not reading everything I've posted (NOBODY does. Who has the time, honestly?) But when you make blanket statements about the content and character of my posts, you are responsible to know what they contain, and you are wrong about them.

Own it or don't, no skin off my nose. Your personal grudge isn't really a problem; I'm long-winded, have unusual personal positions, and express opinions strongly, and it's no big deal to not like someone. But you no longer have an excuse to speak falsely of how my position on Harbaugh has changed.

So... couple things; Yes you made that post in the coaching snowflakes thread, but then the very next day you were hedging your words again. I'm not about to take the time to dig it up, I'm too busy. But to be super clear, I didn't catch that particular post at the time, though I did read through that thread after. That was the only clear admission I recall you making, after nearly two seasons worth of trashing the guy. But okay. One comment.

Maybe I've missed others, I don't read every thread. But it has been a very, very consistent theme to make me notice (and be annoyed) since early last year.

The fact that you made one (or two?) posts admitting you were wrong is good, but I don't quite think it offsets two years of attacking Harbaugh's coaching and character. You have weight here, people read your comments, see that you're popular, and some will inevitably follow suit. It's not like it's catastrophic, but that kind of thing does cause some small, petty amount of "damage" to the program. It added more inertia to the chorus of folks trashing JH, unjustly.

My "grudge" isn't a personal thing, which I think you know. I never had any problems with you at all prior to you becoming one more "fire Harbaugh" guy. At some point that shit hit a critical mass here, and if people don't think that has some type of impact on recruiting at the very least, then they're very short sighted. Context matters, and very, very few people seemed able to keep things in their proper context until after our season was in hand. It's really frustrating, and I addressed you about it several times during the season, which you did not deign to respond to.

I'm still frustrated by it, but I'll drop it.

Yeah.  FSU has lost a lot of shine.  This is two years in a row not going bowling and 3 out of 4.  This just screams 1-year thing.  He doesn't want to go to FSU anymore, but it's too late to really do the homework to find the right spot, or else the places he wants to go are filling up fast, so he'll take the brownie points that come with choosing an HBCU, get coached by a legend for a year, and then find a school with decent facilities, better coaches, and more exposure.  At least this way, he'll definitely get on the field as a freshman, then he can spend two years at an SEC school.

If this is the #1 overall recruit, I have to believe there are some major programs that would make room for him. And I have to believe that, as the #1 overall recruit, there's no way he isn't at least passingly familiar with a lot of schools, because they'll keep calling him.

Even if this is just really a "nah, not FSU" decision, and with Deion being who he is... it's hard to write this off as just an insincere "anything else" move. He could have done that anywhere. His social media message says the right stuff about HBCUs and I think there's actually some truth to that--he will draw eyes there.

the nfl will find him if he's good enough.  i'd also say that development has a lot to do with self-determination and discipline, in addition to the facilities in which they occur.  you don't need to go to a football factory to turn yourself into an nfl player.  does it help?  sure, but it's not all there is.

and let's not discount the cultural value of an HBCU degree to many african-american kids.  that's a big-assed deal.

I'm not arguing either of those points, just that "well-funded facilities and staff" aren't the top criteria for every recruit. There was a major basketball recruit a couple years ago who went to Howard. Some recruits, and this is going to be hard for many on this board, don't have the same priorities that you think they should. Just because JSU isn't the best choice for everyone, doesn't mean it's not the best choice for this particular kid.

This is true but the argument a lot of folks make—including The Athlete YouTube show/podcast with Brandon Marshall, Fred Jackson, & Chad Johnson— is that high level recruits and high visible coaches should make this move as it will bring more eyes and funding to HBCU with time as enough recruits & coaches go to HBCUs. As mentioned by another commenter on this thread, a lot on this board won’t understand the thinking behind making some personal sacrifice to help uplift and empower their community.
