The lesson to be learned: don’t tie your self-esteem to the success of a sports team. Don’t lose sight of the fact that it’s just a game. “BUT MUH FOOTBAW” is not a reason to tolerate criminality.

Impressive 24,000 signatures in 24 hours.

The funniest part is that the petition was sent to Gene Smith, as if he's not part of the negligence and will most likely lose his job even if by some miracle Meyer keeps his.

I expected nothing else. I feel that at first that awful fanbase tried to take this stuff seriously and actually question Meyer’s integrity and ethics. Clearly it was only a matter of time until they said “fuck that” and (again) put winning ahead of everything.

Let's be completely honest with ourselves. If this situation were happening at Michigan, some section of the Michigan fanbase would be rallying for the head coach and creating petitions to keep him.

Not that OSU doesn't deserve to be called out for this behavior.

Also: there is obviously no way Urban Meyer knew that Zach Smith was a domestic abuser before 2018, and Meyer clearly reported his abuse in 2015.  Meyer lied to the media, but there is no reason to think he’s a liar.

Plus something about Earle Bruce being Zach Smith’s grandfather, which apparently absolves Meyer of any responsibility.

The fact (if true) that Urban Meyer really DID report what he knew pretty much demolishes the discrete claim that Meyer failed to report or failed to investigate.

As for Meyer’s lying to the press, our rivals may have thought that Brady Hoke deserved to be fired for lying to the press about Brendan Gibbons; but I doubt that it would have been popular in MGoBlog.  If Brady Hoke had brought a national championship to Michigan, then I rather expect that the MGoBloggers would be generating petitions as some OSU factions are now.

Sooooo....a ton of signatures is somehow going to make up for the fact that he lied and covered for a wife beater?  O.K.

I remember that toolbag Penn State fan who religiously guarded the JoePa statue.  When his picture was posted online, everyone was in agreement that, yep, that's exactly what I expected that guy to look like.

I suspect the same with this guy.  You'll know it's him when you see him.

From the petition:

Urban Meyer is on the hot seat and can be wrongfully fired from Ohio State it is up to us Buckeye Nation to help him not just for him but for THE Ohio State University and the great state of Ohio!

As of this moment, just short of 25,000 people apparently can ignore horrible grammar and sign this anyway.

The only thing this petition is going to accomplish is make “Buckeye Nation” look even more pathetic when it comes out that Urban was involved in some shady stuff.

I mean the OSU support for Urban has become an echo chamber of bad opinions, fake news, and misinformation so I'm not surprised by this. I'm glad that literally everyone else thinks Urban is done

It continues to blow my mind that so many of them support Meyer in spite of the mounting evidence.  I know there are bad people that pass through every college football program and there are bad people in every fan base, but I get the impression that if this was happening at UM the majority of our fans would not be pleased with Meyer.

Looks like Brett McMurphy's career is the one that's over:

https://www.reddit.com/r/OhioStateFootball/comments/94t19c/crosspost_from_rcfb_a_lawyers_deep_dive_into/

False reporting (original report published the day before Media Days that remained until several days later stated that Smith had been "arrested", which never occurred) that dictated Meyer's now ACCURATE answer at Media Days in addition to changing his story along the way.

Good night, Brett.

Why would that misinformation exonerate Meyer?

He supposedly knew the history of Zach Smith's abuse record based on a review of police records and a personal interview with Smith about it, according to 11Warrriors. Why wouldn't he have known if there was an arrest on Smith's record? The police called school officials.

That argument is totally specious because it then negates what knowledge he did possess, including Smith's assertion that if Meyer learned that Smith had actually hit his wife, he would immediately fire him. None of that ever happened. So, because there was no arrest based on that charge, he remained on staff.

So, moving forward to Media Days questioning both on and off camera, Meyer could have corrected the record if he felt it were false, and that would have strengthened his position not weakened him. It may have opened doors he didn't want to walk through but that is the real reason behind his denial of the Smith domestic abuse incident in 2015. He simply didn't want to address what he actually knew to be the case.

And why is that? Because he didn't want to have to answer questions about his retention of Smith over time even after he now claims to actually having told his AD about police reports of his assistant which Gene Smith acted upon at a certain point, calling him back from the road on a recruiting trip for an interview about the abuse allegations, according to Zach Smith.

The funny thing is, that after trying to corroborate and bolster Meyer's statement on Friday, Smith himself was outed by texts from his wife that actually confirmed two choking incidents that he denied in his own timeline of events.

The problem for Meyer isn't with outside reaction to his handling of Zach Smith, it's with getting his own story straight for Ohio State investigators.

One more post though I said my third would be my last.  I'm not defending Meyer; rather, I'm defending his response at Media Days.  Understand that distinction.  For the life of me, I can't understand why Urban Meyer would retain a mediocre coach and, much more importantly and given the allegations, a despicable human being.  As an alumnus of Ohio State, that is exceptionally disappointing.  That's all.

Except Meyer said he had no knowledge of any incident in 2015 and contacted his bosses to see if something happened, to which they replied to him nothing had happened. If he had known he would have fired him sooner.

Then a week later he changed his story that in fact something had happened and he reported it.

I know you want to blame the media, even though reporters edit their stories all the time after more information comes to light, but it's not Brett's fault that Meyer lied and will likely lose his job.

But, keep trying to turn the story back on the victim and the media if it makes you feel better. Then go pound sand because it's not going to change the shit show that your beloved football team is going through because of a liar and domestic violence enabler, named Urban Meyer, created all on his own.

There’s a good reason why this happened. The Police changed the incident report that initially said Smith was arrested to say that he was not arrested. They did this AFTER McMurphy broke his story

“THE TERMINOLOGY USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS DIFFERENT IN THE ORIGINAL REPORT (DATED 10/26/2015) AND INCONSISTENT WITH WHAT ACTUALLY OCCURRED,” SAID MEGAN CANAVAN, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION FOR THE POWELL POLICE DEPARTMENT.”

So it’s understandable that he would edit his article to be consistent with the edited Police report.

Beyond that extremely insightful nugget of information, is still the issue of Meyer's responsibility to know regardless of what a police report says. Eleven Warriors is reporting today that Meyer in fact knew all about the abuse incident in 2015 based on his own review of police reports and having talked to Zach Smith about it himself.

So, the explanation for his lying denial at Media Days based on the contention of not being "adequately prepared" is preposterous on its face. He didn't want to face the music of his inaction dealing with Smith over time in a public setting, and that is why he lied, even if he took upon himslf to contact Gene Smith to report the allegations. He readily understands the politics surrounding this.

C'mon... the only thing more pathetic than the poorly written/worded petition is going to a rival's website to try and defend your coach.  OSU will be fine without Meyer.  He'll either get fired (which means OSU thinks they won't have to pay him $38 million) or he'll "retire" so that he isn't a 'distraction from the team' (which means that he'll get his millions, a statue, and will come back to dot the "i" at the Michigan-OSU game). From a pure fan perspective, I'd like Michigan to beat OSU with Meyer at the helm. But, if he's really enabled an abuser, he needs to go. Though many on here don't want to acknowledge it (or about MSU either), OSU is really a better institution than given credit and deserves better than him (if the allegations are true).

Can't start a new thread and prob not thread worthy but looks like "dudes" are spreading to other teams. Also a little sparty disrespekt?

Harlon Barnett says he isn't knocking Michigan State, but one of the first things he noticed at FSU was that "they have some dudes" on defense.
