I'm confused. Who are they trying to save Meyer from? Themselves or their school? He was put on administrative leave by The Ohio State for allegedly violating a condition of his contract, not following the reporting requirements as a staff supervisor after lying publicly about his handling of domestic abuse allegations to apparently protect himself instead of the school he's paid millions to represent.

If the university assuages their demand for his return as coach, the move threatens greater damage to its integrity and brand image than his loss would create for the greater glory of the Buckeye football program.

Wrong.  Meyer did not lie.  Read the Reddit report (URL is above).

At Media Days, Meyer was responding to McMurphy's question(s) based on his initial report, released the day prior, which stated that Zach Smith had been arrested in 2015.  Smith was never arrested.  Meyer rightly denied the report.

McMurphy has been changing his story over time, from "arrested" to "investigated".  Unfortunately for McMurphy, said changes are trackable and time stamped.  He's toast.

You are missing the point, if Meyer felt the reporting was innacurate, he could have corrected the record and made himself look better in the process of doing so. He didn't do that. He denied knowing anything about the domestic incident report in 2015.

Denial was the easier explanation than having one question lead to a dozen more about the case that he acknowledged he wasn't prepared to answer to the assembled Chicago media. So he lied about what he knew and when first learned of it.

The arrest issue only bears on the level of documentation and sourcing accuracy McMurphy got in reporting his story in the first place, not what was learned after Meyer denied any prior knowledge of the Smith case upon its release.

And if that were really an issue, then why did Meyer cop to the lie in his own statement, instead of explaining your convoluted claim?

The reason is simple, he didn't want to have to publicly address his level of knowledge and why he kept Zach Smith on staff for years over multiple contracts when there are pictures available showing Courtney Smith with bruises that would wipe out any core value argument on domestic violence he chose to offer in defense.

What's more, if Meyer failed to get legal help in crafting that Friday statement, he was foolish to publish it.

Meyer absolutely did lie.  From the transcript:

Q. You said earlier that you were aware of the incident with Zach in 2009. Your inquiry into 2015 was unfounded. You couldn’t find anything.

A: 2015, I got a text late last night something happened in 2015. And there was nothing. Once again, there’s nothing...

He clearly indicates that the first time he heard of something happening in 2015 was from a text the previous night.  That was a lie.

What do you think the text in question said?

Isn't it logical/reasonable to assume that said text alluded to McMurphy's erroneous report (i.e., the only report that existed at that time), which stated that Smith was "arrested on felony counts of domestic violence"?

And wouldn't the proper response to such an erroneous report be "there was nothing"?

Where in that transcript does it say that this was the "first time Meyer had heard of this"?  I don't see that in there.  It could have simply been the most recent interaction he had experienced in regards to the 2015 incident, which makes sense as it was from the night before.  Further, couldn't "something" in that context mean "something that I was unaware of" - which would be because it was "something" that didn't happen.  Again, McMurphy reported something that didn't happen.  I'll be shocked if he doesn't pay for this, including lawsuits from Meyer and possibly Smith the Scumbag.

Just playing devil's advocate.  And now I'm going to leave your board forever, which I'm sure will make you all happy and be about three posts too late.

Perhaps a "Save Courtney Smith" petition 10 years ago would have prevented a woman from being abused and prevented their football god from this scrutiny and potential firing.

Shitty priorities / ethics = shitty outcome = pooper coolers in CBUS.

This same guy is hosting a save Urban Meyer rally tomorrow.  They will literally open the rally with a prayer, but he didn't specify if they were praying to Urban Meyer or God.

First petition is "Save Urban Meyer," but there's also a second related petition going around, the "Board Investigation Tears Columbus' Hearts" petition. Just as soon as they link them up, you'll have SUMBITCH.

The Nut fans are absolutely crazy.  They couldn’t care less about what happened and only care about football.  The best part is the Sparty fan defending the Nut fan.  #pathetic.
