One-time Michigan commit Eric Gray (Tennessee RB) in the portal

Submitted by Cousin Larry on January 20th, 2021 at 6:29 PM

Was decent in his two years in Knoxville.  Since we lost Charbonnet, should we take a swing here, or is he damaged goods?

2019 4-star RB Eric Gray has entered the transfer portal after totaling 1,311 yards and 8 TD at Tennessee; also 43 rec for 369 yards and 3 TD receiving @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody @Volquest_Rivals https://t.co/zcaigc04hu

I'd stay away from all these guys, especially Gray since his name as floated around in a lot of these illicit McDonald's action.

Same with Crouch.  Just seems like they bring some baggage that could linger with limited upside.

I remember going after some “Ole Miss” players a few years back. I’m sure none of them were involved with bagmen or “the hamburgler”. I’m not opposed to kicking the tires on these guys, but they probably bring some baggage. Van Jefferson would have been a nice player for us.

According to 247 we're going after the LB Henry To'o To'o.

Michigan wasn't really a factor for To'o To'o the first time around, but a source tells 247Sports the Wolverines will be in the mix with Jim Harbaugh and Shaun Nua leading the way in the recruitment.

not only no but hell no.  He is toxic, and was one of the kids being investigated for the improper benefits.  We have 2 RB coming in this class already.  Do not want him in the locker room

Interesting that it also looks like TN had a very young and all female group under titles of assistant directors of recruiting, at least one of which was just previously a "hostess" and two that just graduated from TN in the last year or two.  One with a last name of Hooker, and these are things you simply cannot just make up....

I’ve always wondered if these guys get hassled by the bag men when they transfer. Like, does someone at least call and make some empty threats about getting the money back? I’m sure they know the money is gone by now but still.

I’ve wondered that too but it seems impractical. The bagman can’t rat the kid out to the NCAA without implicating themselves and the program. I suppose that leaves leg breaking as an option, but that also seems counterproductive given the attention and legal hassles it could create.

To'o To'o had 76 tackles this year with 1 sack and 1 INT. He was the #44 rated recruit in the 2019 247composite (0.9779).

Crouch had 57 tackles with 2 forced fumbles. He was #61 in the '19 composite (0.9699)

Either of these guys could be a suitable replacement for McGrone. A package deal would provide some great depth at LB. The new staff needs to get on this.

My wife worked at a 5A TX high school last year, and they had a 4-star All American WR who visited UM and UT. His former head coach left to Baylor, so he was pushing him there. His mom wanted to stay open and liked Michigan, but preferred Baylor so she could make it to his games and be closer to him. Upon returning from his UT trip, he suddenly only wanted to go to UT, but wouldn't offer an explanation on what changed all of a sudden. He came from a poor upbringing and has a single mom, so the HS coaching staff all but knew money was coming his way (his mom did not like these shenanigans). Ultimately he chose Baylor, mostly due to his relationship w/ his mom. It was at the same time as some other big names were committing and transferring there, and I remember telling my wife UT must be going all out w/ recruiting violations. This last month provided great closure for the speculation.

Happy to see and hear the the TN guys have learned their lesson!  All announced that McDonald's bags are unacceptable.  However, we still like: Burger King, Wendy's, Five Guys and Chick fil A.
