OLSM Men's Baseball was #1 in the nation a couple years ago, and the coach is the son of former Detroit Tiger Dan Petry

From what I've heard from people who's kids go there, he was texting a 14yo female student.

When are these guys gonna learn?

First of all, as a teacher, this sickens me and is wrong on multiple levels....but...Jesus H Christ. How many times does this have to keep happening?

A guy's dick can be his best friend, but that lil monster can get you in so much trouble.

Your theory is supported by what my classmates and I observed in high school before the smartphone age.   Two different English teachers -- one male and one female -- were openly known or believed to be involved in relationships with underage students.  The students themselves would laugh it off when other students talked about it.  In the case of the male teacher, he was involved with one of the cheerleaders.  When she graduated he entered into a relationship with another underage student the following year.  The big question that year was whether he was going to be her date for the prom.

At least 3 girls in my graduating class married teachers/coaches. The age gaps weren't huge, the largest was 12 years IIRC, and according to my social media using wife, 2 of the 3 are still together (3rd is unknown).

I don't understand the appeal personally. Have you ever spoken to a teenager at length? They are all annoying as fuck.

It's more about a power thing than real romantic attraction. When I was just 23 I was working as a waiter for a bit and started flirting with this girl who also worked there. I called her to ask her out and she was all excited, so I was happy, but then I could hear her mom yelling at her in the background. Turns out she was sixteen years old. Suddenly she was not attractive to me anymore.

It's not a pedophile-thing, it is a boundary thing.  It is normative for an adult (of either gender) to find a post-puberty individual sexually attractive.  Age does not matter, it is the sexual stage at which the object of desire presents.  I know that "normative" sounds odd, but that's the term used by psycho-sexual evaluators (I'm a criminal defense lawyer).

It is a boundary-thing because society has decided, rightly, that the power dynamic between an adult and a post-pubescent minor, such that there is a high likelihood of harm/exploitation to the minor. It's also normative for most adults who cognitively are honest about their boundary-violating "interests" -- to which we are biologically wired -- to make the consciousness decision to not act on or nurture those interests, either because they don't want to be prosecuted or recognize the harm that acting out or nurturing those interests will cause.

Pedophiles are individuals who are attracted to pre-pubescent minors.  Does not mean that boundary offenders are any better or worse than pedophiles.  Finding acts of either repulsive is good and protective, and encourages protective behavior.  However, not all pedophiles act out -- some studies inform that pedophilic interest appears at rate of 1/100.  It's my firm belief (from 30+ years of experience in the field of criminal defense and working with all kinds of experts), that the more we take the shaming out of the system, the more likely that those with pedophilic or boundary-violating interests can get help before they act out, saving untold victims of sexual offenses.

That should be the goal, preventing trauma, helping those who are at risk of acting out get help before they act.  The literature re "shame" is contra-indicated to preventing crime.

I remember taking a class in grad school about ten years ago and while I don't remember the specific topic we were covering, the professor made a great point that in this day and age, with social media and everyone having a recording device in their phone, there are no such things as secrets anymore. There are simply truths waiting to be revealed.

And that was ten years ago....

There really are no such things as secrets anymore. Everything you do, especially online, can be traced back. Deleted the post/tweet? Doesn't matter. A digital footprint of it exists somewhere. Deleted the call or the text? The phone company still has a record of it, as well as the person(s) you sent it to, and whoever they sent it to. This is further magnified when you are any person of significance, especially as the coach of a major college institution. All eyes are on you, anyway.

I have to sit there and ask what in the world Mel Tucker was thinking when he did this, and if he seriously thought he'd get away with it or that it would never come out. But I guess I just need to stop and realize he wasn't thinking, or he let "little Mel" do his thinking for him.

If anyone had the chance to see the Eaglets baseball team in '21 and '22 it was insane. Something you never thought you would ever see in Michigan High School baseball. The fact that they were able to build the #1 team in the nation in Michigan was a once in a generation type team.

And all of that cache is gone. Every man is a wink and two drinks away from ruining their lives.

Those teams had so many high-level college baseball players on their roster that they had Division 1 players on their bench. Brock Porter was a 4th Round pick for the Texas Rangers straight out of St. Mary's and is already a Top 100 MLB prospect. They also had the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a kid who hits 3rd in Auburn's lineup as a true freshman. Most likely the best Michigan HS baseball team of all-time.

5 or 6 years ago I took my then sophomore son to see a late March game between OSLM & Brother Rice. BR had a good team; they went on to the state semis in Div 1 that season.

And it looked like men playing with boys. Literally every OLSM starter looked college ready.

I was fortunate to attend a hs with a monster ball team; in '81 we had an MLB 3rd rounder AND JUCO player of the year. In '80 & '81 our seniors received 3 offers from a then very nationally prominent Michigan program. I know what really good hs ball looks like.

But OLSM was on another level.
