Oliver Martin Isn't Going Anywhere

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on June 3rd, 2019 at 9:52 AM

There were rumors aplenty last week that Oliver Martin was looking to enter the portal, so Sam Webb made some calls - including to Oliver's family - and it turns out that Oliver will be back on the Michigan football team this fall. Per Sam this morning, "Unless something happens and he does a complete 180, he's not going anywhere."

It’s really the smart thing to do even if you not happy with your spot on the depth chart.  He can compete this year for playing time in a new speed in space offense.

Why sit out a year?   Anything can happen.

If you are still not happy after this year you could likely grad transfer and play right away.

The most interesting part of the whole thing is what Gattis said about having room for everyone to move around on the depth chart. It’s also interesting that Gattis post a picture of the wide receiver crew and Oliver was front and center so I would say that if all things stay how they are then he should be on the team for the up coming year

That's a bold take. Also weird considering you included Tru in this year's group but not last year's group. If you list a group of 3 guys in each year, Tru is in both.

We've seen nothing to suggest a true freshman and guy who has 20 carries to his resume will be better than a 1,000 yard rusher (almost twice - off by 6 yards) and Evans who was a 600+ yard rusher in his best full season.

Higdon wasn't all world last year, but he was a really solid RB. If Charbonnet is better than Hidgon, he's probably one of the best freshman RBs in the country.

Wilson... get out with that shit!

Here's an insane take on the RB situation:  Could this turn out like Nick Ward's injury for MSU?  That forced Izzo to put his best lineup out there and is, IMO, the only reason they swept us and made the Final Four.

If our RB depth is that limited, that could force us to open up the passing game with all of our highly regarded skill players.

That's what I'm hoping for, penny. I'd be just fine with all the Michigan passing records going down this season. Patterson is more than capable of shouldering that load and with upper classmen receivers, they are too. I get the optimism with the running game but I also believe we're in the bottom half of the conference in regards to RB's. ZC is a frosh, Turner hardly used last season, and Wilson is a nice player but not a guy who should be starting or a workhorse.

I couldn't imagine how annoying it must be for a bunch of internet strangers to complain enough about your life decisions as a college student to warrant multiple people reaching out to you to figure out why you didn't come back from a trip soon enough.

Glad he's back, but why this became "a thing" beyond the fact that Yoder copy-pasted some shit from a message board is tiring.
