Official: Michigan vs MSU at Comerica Park
Finally. After questioning why these two rivals haven't played a game at the home of the Tigers (while MSU and CMU played there the past 3 years in a row), it has finally happened.
Michigan Baseball will take on MSU at Comerica Park on 4/14/2015 at 6:35pm.
This game will be a non-conference game. Due to Jim Delany being a moron and inviting Rutgers and Maryland into the B1G, Michigan will not play either rival in a B1G game this season.
This will be the 3rd season of the 2010s where Michigan doesn't face Ohio State. Sad.
I'm really hoping these two can eventually come to my hometown and play at the minor league stadium that's coming in May.

I dont remember you being this non-stop grumpy all the time before you left on your self-imposed board sabbatical. Did something bad happen to you while you were gone that has turned you against the rest of us and made you an angry, bitter man full of loathing and hate?
That being said that comment was funny as shit.

When the football program sucks, everyone is "angry, bitter" and "full of loathing and hate:" at least in the world of sports kayfabe. Hopefully, we all get over it on Dec 1st or 2nd, as the hiring of a new coach fills us with sunshine and, uh, roses.

Many will come here not expecting this.

I thought it was for hockey.

hockey to basketball to football. An actual baseball game was the last thing I expected. I'm not sure what that says about things.

Crain's did a nice writeup on the project and the people behind it here - LINK
There weren't too many details on who exactly would play here, with some indication that they might source teams from a few different existing semipro leagues potentially. Still, it's a cool idea and if it is anything like the team in Traverse City, a decent draw locally. Interestingly, the land in Utica being used for this is a capped brownfield site.

you scared the shit outta me u know that i thought it was a football game. Good God when will the memories of Brandon fade?

Hah, an actual baseball game was about the last thing I thought of. I suppose I didn't consider swimming and diving or water polo.

That's actually kinda cool.
This might be a dumb question, but will they put up "fake" walls to make the stadium smaller? I don't know the maximum dimensions in college baseball, but it feels like center fields in college typically aren't 420 feet.

Yes, here's an artist's rendering:
In reality I doubt they do anything with faux fences. Hell, Ray Fisher Staidum is 375 to the gaps and 400 to center, much like other big league parks.

in most other MLB ballparks aren't 420 feet either.

A special event being played on the type of field it was actually intended to be played on?
What is the catch here? Is the baseball team going to wear purple and neon green stripes?
All in all, seems like a pretty cool idea. Chance of a lifetime for most of the kids who would never otherwise get to play on a pro field.

Michigan/MSU could easily play football at Ford Field or basketball at the Palace, but both of those are just stupid.
Michigan/MSU hockey at the Joe would be cool if they still had their home and home the same season.

like Comerica Park have a LOT more prestige IMO than say Ford Field. Honestly, I would say playing football at Ford Field after playing at Michigan Stadium is pretty much ho-hum. And playing basketball at the Palace isn't THAT much better than playing at Chrisler or Breslin. But playing baseball at Comerica is in a totally different world than playing at any college baseball stadium.

instead of screwing Michigan by making us play in the trash tornado 2X in a row, why didn't they play this year's game at Ford Field or someplace neutral? Same could be said for other games...Indiana at Michigan, Michigan at NW, etc..

Because the B1G has a rotating schedule with no protected rivalries.
Michigan played OSU in an early season tournament in Florida a couple years ago as a non-conference game when they didn't meet in B1G play.
MBB did a non-conference game with MSU in the 1997-98 season.

For a minute I thought the title here was a hockey game. The way winter is shaping up it could be plan B or a full out snowball fight. The sight of Harry Gilmer still getting snow bombed almost eclipsed the 62 packers game.
November 11th, 2014 at 9:37 PM ^
Was it really necessary to not include "baseball" in the title?

Perhaps you should email the ADept with your appreciation that Dave Brandon had this in the works before resigning.

It's something Mark Hollis has been pushing for. DB resisted, but after his resignation it quickly came together.
