Not CC: Duncan Robinson >= Stauskas?

Submitted by a2bluefan on

Didn't see this posted yet... although who can find anything among all the CC clutter?

Anyway, apparently Duncan Robinson is tearing it up in practice... including apparently breaking Nik's shooting record:

On Monday, Michigan assistant coach Bacari Alexander tweeted, "Rumor has it that Duncan Robinson broke @NStauskas11 shooting record this week! Wow!"

I'm super excited to watch this year's team develop... but man, this makes me want to fast-forward to next year right now.

I wonder how many years we'll get to watch Robinson in Maize and Blue?  If JB turns a D-III guy into a first rounder, it should make recruiting as easy as it should be in Ann Arbor.

there were people on this board saying that his shot was too slow and that even at 6' 8" he wouldn't be able to get it off over Div 1-A players.   So clearly there is no reason to get even the least bit excited here.

Caris and maybe Zak are going to be in the NBA.  Robinson sounds like a great shooter, but he's not going to fill either of those guys shoes and will likely be a defensive liability.

Michigan is going to need an athleticism infusion next year, but Walton, Spike, Robinson, Chatman, Doyle is a pretty solid starting point.  Hopefully Dawkins and Wilson make some big strides.

Donnal was tearing it up in practice last year if you beleved the reports.  No one can stop Max Bielfeldt in the Big 10 but Max Bielfeldt according to reports.

Kudos to Duncan - we'll see you in a year with guys in your face contesting shots :)

If he is nothing but a 41% spot shooter from the 3 pt line we'll take it for a Div 3 transfer.

...but can he defend?

Nonetheless. I'm thinking we get one more year out of Irvin and Walton. And knowing that, I really hope we get one more Beilein type wing player and an unBeilein like post (big, physical, scary).

I'll believe it when I see it. Remember how Donnal was hyped up too last year when he redshirted? So far he's been struggle central...

I'm with you there.  Would love to see Donnal at 4 in 2015-2016.  His physicality doesnt seem suited for 5.  If DJ Wilson can go drink milkshakes and become Sanderson's best friend for a year and come back and give us 12-14 min a night behind Doyle at 5, I'd love to see a Chatman/Donnal platoon out at 4.

Not sure what Donnal's range is- thus far it seems limited to about 14 feet and Beilein seems to like his 4s to go all the way out to the 3.  Will be curious how they utilize Wilson v Donnal next year.

need to be more physical than Donnal has been to date.  Offensively, it is clear he would be better at the 4, but not sure he's going to be able to check his man there--he doesn't show very good lateral quickness.  He will be a work in progress, but last Spring's rumors obviously need to be tempered.

Donnal was going up against our frontcourt in practice, which is not the strength of our team.  Theoretically if Robinson is a 3, he should be playing against the strength of our team in practice. If he's a 4, well then......

Which is very important in basketball, call it confidence i suppose, If Duncan has that level of confidence in HIMSELF then maybe he can do some things Stauskus did. Its the reason Darko never played well. Lots of players can shoot the light out in practice. Let me know when Robinson goes off like Nik did against Florida and Syracuse as a freshman, then I might buy into the hyp.

Might not be Nik, but the dude is 6' 8" and can shoot the lights out. Just another player to stretch the floor for us. That's exciting if you ask me.

Knowing what we know now about our roster this far in to the season, considering potential early departures...Would you rather have had Eron Harris or Robinson for next year?
