Normal Time Friday POSBANG

Submitted by GoWings2008 on

With over 90 posts in the POSBANG from 2-freaking-AM, I propose a normal hour'd POSBANG because....well, just because.  I'm sure you all can think of mo' betta reasons as well.

Just did a timed LSAT Logic Games section and finished with 2 minutes to spare and scored a -2. This is a huge improvement over what I what doing this past summer, and I am quite pleased with myself at the moment. Happy Friday folks and Go Blue!

I'm a lawyer. I like being a lawyer, but it's what I always wanted to be. That being said, I agree that one should not go to law school on a whim. It's incredibly expensive, the job prospects are not great, and the lifestyle can be really unpleasant. If you get the high paying job, chances are you are working all the time (Thanksgiving, Christmas, weekends, etc.). If you don't get a high paying job, chances are it's tough to cover your expenses because law school was so damn expensive.

OP, if it's what you really want to do, go for it. Just know what you're getting into.

I totally agree that you should go if you're 100% sure it's what you want to do. The problem is that it's almost impossible to know how stressful and soul-sucking it is to be a lawyer (particularly at a large law firm) unless you've actually done it for a few years in a row. I think the one of the best things to do to get that experience is to work as a paralegal for a year or two. You get a better idea then.

The financial aspect and changing nature of the profession is another ballgame entirely. Basically, law school is ridiculously expensive, there are still too many lawyers, and technology is killing off jobs in the industry (not a bad thing in my estimation). Not a good set of circumstances to enter, especially with lots of debt.

I have interned and worked as a legal assistant/aid, so I've seen the rigors of the job first hand. I know that law is what I want to do. That said, I'm only going to law school if I get a financial package/scholarship that will minimize or eliminate the debt from going to law school. If that doesn't happen I'll either move on or study more to get the LSAT needed to obtain a scholarship. Also, living in Georgia, both UGA and Georgia St. are dirt cheap for in-state and compete very well in the Atlanta market. I've done my research and I'm not just doing this on a whim.

Good for you. Most people don't do the research and go "because they want to help people". Many, including some friends of mine, end up without a job and with an insurmountable load of debt that will cripple them financially for the rest of their lives.

Also - 1L is all that matters. Kill it for a year and you'll be golden.

Gonna be listening to at least part of the game on the radio, have to drive across the state for family stuff. But it's still the Friday before a game day and that alone is a blessing not to be taken for granted. GO BLUE!!!
