Have they cancelled the annual Extra Strength Vagisil Bowl yet? Because that will really stink and illustrate the fungus growing on college football...

There have been some good MAC versus power conference games. I think the first was against Ole Miss, and Randy Moss went 80 yards on Marshall's first play from scrimmage. The CMU-Purdue one stands out to me too. The years when the B1G didn't have enough teams, and like Middle Tennessee got in, were kind of lame. The ones at Ford Field are more fun to me because Detroit bars are all walkable after the game. For the Silverdome games I remember going to the frozen parking lot periodically to get beers.

Yes, the first Motor City Bowl (1997) was IMO the best Motor City Bowl.

Marshall vs Ole Miss.  That was in the days of less Bowls, so sometimes 7-win Power Conference teams wouldn't even get Bowl bids.  Ole Miss was solid: Deuce McAlister and a 7-4 record, with a win at Top 10 LSU in Baton Rouge earlier in the year.  They were a worthy opponent for Marshall, who was a worthy opponent for a good SEC team in themselves.

I've been to a dozen+ of these games.  They are generally more good than bad.  2007 CMU/Purdue (as you alluded to), 2003 BG/NW, 2019 Pitt/EMU and 2005 Memphis/Akron also stand out to me as better games in the series.

Is the Quick Lane Bowl the former Pizza Pizza Bowl...which was formerly the Motor City Bowl?

I've been to a few which involved Big Ten teams; Northwestern/Bowling Green and Purdue/Western.

Pretty much always a 'Who Cares," bowl but it was something to do.  Ended up having fun the few times I went.

Quick Lane Bowl story: I took two of my daughters a couple of years ago to see Duke-NIU with some free tickets. Thought it would be a great time to show them downtown and take the Q-line; so we parked at the New Center area where the Q-line starts.

Keep in mind, it was 10 degrees out and it had snowed close to a foot the day before. So we park and get to the Q-line stop. The screen says it’s a 15 minute wait. Fine. There was a small overhead heater; so I figured we could hang.

10 minutes later, I look up and it now says the wait is 25 minutes. Great. So I tell my girls that we should start walking. We walked through the unplowed sidewalks for about 7 blocks. The kids were cold. We found a Detroit Pizza kitchen near Wayne State. Stopped there, warmed up and ate. It was across from another Q-line stop, so we sat inside and waited for another train. 20 minutes later, a train finally shows up.

We get on the train, and the guy running it then says we’re going to have to wait because a car parked on the tracks and they had to wait for a tow truck. I asked what the first two delays were for and he said they were for car accidents on the track. 35 minutes later, we were finally running. I got to Detroit at 1:30 for a 5:00 kickoff and was 20 minutes late to the game.

In summary, the Q-line is a colossal waste, and people are stupid. That is all.

Thirty-four (34) bowl games are ON, however, per the schedule released today.

So, the Motor Quick Pizza Lane City Bowl is the exception, not the norm.
