Only 2500 students claimed tickets for 3,100 open seats, and 4,000ish have season tickets.

So that means students without season tickets are buying single game tickets, so how are they overselling THOSE? They don't have anything to guarantee to those students!

I had a DJ instead of a band when I got married. Saved a bunch of money and sounded just fine.
Nevertheless, I hope they go for the full centerpieces at the game, though, rather than going for something cheap looking with sad little flowers. I also hear DB is thinking about vegetarian hors d'oeuvres, which would be a real mistake...

with video on the scoreboard for two straight hours.

This story is true - I have a friend in the Alumni Pep Band and she said they were notified yesterday.  The next thing you know, we'll have macaroni outside Michigan Stadium.

Has anyone noticed that the MMB for football goes absolutley NO WHERE on the road unless it's MSU, OSU, or a Bowl? Why is that? Is it really all about the money? I always liked the way The Victors sounded in an otherwise shushed stadium.

This has pretty much been the case since the early 2000s, for a variety of reasons. Money is the primary concern. Also, unlike most other Big 10 schools, Michigan gets locked in to two major rivalry games and a major non-conference game every year, so while other schools rotate their 1-2 away trips per year, we're pretty much locked in on those three. You can't skip MSU, OSU, or Notre Dame, and the rest of the schools aren't usually big enough games to merit the expense for an overnight trip.

That being said, there have been efforts to get the MMB to other places, most recently the PSU game in '06. Schembechler Hall asked the MMB to come along, came up with the money, and the transportation plan and hotel reservations were made. Then PSU came back and said they couldn't find seats in the stadium, and their policy was not to put bands on the field level, so the whole thing was cancelled.

I suppose that the alternative, if we asked the athletic department, was just to have all the Christmas tunes on WNIC play over the PA if the DJ was not possible. After all, the game is December 14th, and it would be interesting to see what happens if "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" is a good song for back-to-back dunks if it happens.

This apparently went out in an email to the Alumni Band last night. They were told not to openly protest the decision, and it looks like that request came from the MMB. Don't rock the boat, just take it, the decision has been made, etc.

For those questioning Jennie Dalton, she and her husband Pete are integral parts of the Alumni Band and UMBAA (Univ. of Michigan Band Alumni Association). They both play in the pep band, and are about the biggest Michigan fans and MMB supporters you'll find.

At any rate, you can pretty much bet money Athletics will be putting out a Dave Ablauf press release/Angelique quote within the next 24 hours saying it's all a misunderstanding, the Pep Band just misunderstood, Athletics is making overtures/shifting around tickets to make it right, and there WILL be a live band at the game.

That's how this Athletic Department rolls. Push the envelope, evaluate negative reaction, wait 18 hours or so, come back with the "that's not what we really meant, here's the solution you all wanted, you're welcome, Go Blue" thing.

Don't mind this move, should help with the younger crowd and with recruits. I just hope the DJ knows the type of music to play.  Should make the student section really hype.  Let's be honest, the band isn't really getting people rowdy like a DJ will.  I think it's a good change for ONE GAME.  If half of you blue beards had your way, Michigan would still be playing without the 3-pt line.
