I wouldnt say that. William Campbell last year was the state's top recruit. I'd have to say that Devin Gardner isnt too shabby this year either. Also if Michigan picks up Dior Mathis and Austin White I'd have to continue to disagree with the comment. Is MSU improving on the state? Yes. I think that's more of a product ofRich Rodriguez building out of state pipelines grabbng JT Turner out of OH and D Robinson, Marvin Robinson in FL. Wait...were you being sarcastic?

http://www.mlive.com/sports/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2009/06/chelsea_high_sc… "Chelsea High School running back Nick Hill, considered one of the top high school prospects in the state of Michigan for the class of 2010, will play his college football at Michigan State, Chelsea High coach Brad Bush said today. Hill rushed for 2,090 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2008 and was named The Ann Arbor News' Player of the Year. He has rushed for 4,700 yards in his three-year varsity career. Rivals.com ranks Hill the No. 10 all-purpose back in the country. "They're a top academic program, they're a program on the uptick the past few years, plus Coach (Mark) Dantonio is a great guy and (so is) Coach (Dan) Enos who is recruiting me," Hill told gospartans.net on June 20"

Caught my eye as well. It's not a bad school, but I guess my definitions of "top", "academic", and "programs" are different than Mr. Hill. Ah well, wish the kid the best of luck. He sounds like a good player, and I don't blame him for not wanting to wait for more offers when he found a school he was comfortable with.

as of a few years ago their education program was the best in the country hands down. Also joseph Lulloph is one of the best saxophone teachers in the country. Their wind ensemble is very good also. I would say all around a very good music program. I applied to MSU but wasnt good enough academically to get in. oh well, im very happy at calvin college.

that is false my friend. By far and way Eugene Russau is the not only the best teach but probably in the top ten for best players in the world. He teaches at Minnesota university. He formally taught at Indiana University Jacobs school of music back in its hay day of being considered the best music school in the world, yes, even better than Julliard. Not only has he performed many concertos with some of the worlds most renown orchestras and bands he also assisted in founding the World Saxophone Congress. Michigan at one point did have the best saxophone teacher in Larry Teal but he is long gone and the saxophone studio at UM hasnt been as dominant since, though without a doubt it is a fine saxophone studio.

Not to call you out in two posts in a row but 'biggest facility' doesn't mean jack if you don't have the faculty to run it. If I wanted to work on nuclear research I would rather work in a closest office at the University of Chicago then a 1/2 acre corner office at MSU just because of the co-workers I would be working with. But to give credit where it's due, I like how the state and MSU got that facility in East Lansing. It was a great catch.

bashing I would hope. A lot of Michigan fans wanted to get him if the other options (Brennan Clay, Austin White, ect) all fell threw. Obviously, the kid doesn't want to wait on that. Good luck to him. Also, your quote is funny, considering it's a kid who went 4-0 vs. MSU...

I think he wanted to wait until after the spring evaluation period's camps to end to see if he was going to receive any new offers before making a commitment. ND was supposed to be interested but that does not appear to be the case any longer, or at least not presently.

and btw I changed my quote, because he is very compared to Mike Hart. Anyway I am not here to M bash, I hope you guys land Clay, not sure what is up with White. From what I read, White seems like he wants to go where they will kiss his ass.

Don't worry I will not be trolling here, as long as the MSU bashing is kept to a minimum. Some people here seem reasonable, much like yourself. I appreciate your help. I am off to dinner, have a good evening.

That Dantonio quote is a bit absurd, since it was: A) An MSU player who mocked UofM with the little brother phrase before UofM won and Hart retaliated with it back after the victory. B) Dantonio takes little jabs when he has the chance and is the only college coach that I have ever known to talk smack to an opposing player.

...MSU fans should not be casting stones when it comes to the topic of coaches slapping anyone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlUO-7m9RuA I KEED! I KEED! Seriously, though, wasn't there a story floating around that John L. actually slapped Lamaar Woodley during a recruiting visit? Not as a "bitch, take that" kinda way, but in an utterly failed "let's get pumped" way? I seem to recall one of the MATW guys getting that dope from LW.

I wish the young guy the best of luck. I'm sorry we weren't able to accommodate him, but I certainly hope he's happy with his decision.

It is my educated guess that UM coaches did not offer Hill for a reason. That is not a knock on Hill, I take it he was just not a good fit for our team and/or the coaches have good reason to believe they will get someone who is a better fit. Coming from another vertically challenged athlete, I wish Hill a good career at MSU.

I would rather have this guy on our team than Austin White just because he seems to love Michigan so much. I still hope we offer him and see what happens. Although, I don't know who told him top academic program. Unless worst in the Big Ten is good?

If by that you mean you want a source... and I quoth "Son, I don't know if you're big enough to handle a Big Ten season. Look at you! But I hear you can stop on a dime, and all the guys like you. I'll tell you what-if I've got a scholarship left over in a few weeks, I'll give it to you." Then, dammit, I saw Jamie's eyes. Aw, fer cryin' out loud! You've never seen such a puppy-dog look... but Jamie somehow got his heart set on Michigan's winged helmet... I offered him a full scholarship right then and there, and Jamie took it. - Bo's Lasting Lessons, page 113-114

This current Miami Dolphin is distinguished for his 4 years of impressive play as the starting quarterback at the University of Michigan, but is more commonly known as the guy whose freshman success is frequently lauded without an inkling of logic suggesting that it would be highly improbable for one to do so without a tremendous supporting cast.

No that's not what I'm saying. Of course there are limits. If we just gave scholarships to people who loved Michigan, most of the guys on this blog would have one. In my mind there isn't that much of a difference between Austin White and Nick Hill. Sorry that I didn't say that originally. Referencing your example the dropoff from Tate to a bag of balls to Nick Sheridan is so great that at that point love for Michigan doesn't matter. edit- and Tate obviously loves Michigan. If Sheridan loved it so much he wouldn't have played so bad last year (JOKE)
