New Uniform Hot Takes

Submitted by LJ on

Thoughts on the new digs?  I was skpetical when they were announced, but I actually think it's my favorite road kit since the early 2000s.  The stripes provide enough color, the helmets pop out against the all-white, and the maize was just right.

This is blasphemy around these parts, but...well done Adidas!

I was skeptical at first but after seeing them on the field, I am a fan. My only gripe is wishing the jersey numbers were thinly outlined in matching maize.

well done Adidas!

My guess is it had more to do with the AD or Harbaugh saying "this is what we're doing, make them exactly like this." But who knows, maybe Adidas actually didn't screw up for once.

I thought they looked really nice. Definitely an improvement over the last few away jerseys.

That being said, would love to see that top with the new correctly colored Maize pants.

But my favorite road uniforms ever are still the late-90s and early-2000s ones. They're still clean and simple, but the maize pants provide a nice balance to the blue helmets.

The current ones feel a little top-heavy since the helmet is the only significant color in the uniform.

I love these.  Last night's maize seemed a little too dark/orangish to me.  But, as the game progressed, the color wore on me a bit.  Maybe my eyes just aren't adjusted since my freshmen year (2006) was right in the midst of the Nike highlightering.

I still think I like brighter maize - like that Tom Brady picture.  But, I'm not really complaining.  There were no bumblebee stripes.  There were no other crazy weird things.  They were clean and simple.  Now, just win.

And now I go and look at pictures from the game and the maize from last night looks brighter and similar to the pictures above.  Just goes to show, so much of our opinions are dependent on TV/CPU monitor settings, processing of photos, etc.  Then you go and think about individuals rods and cones and blue/white dresses and who the fuck is anyone to say what is and isn't right!

The maize is now IMO too dark.  They have compensated too much.

I hated the highlighter maize look that we had shifted to, but I think we have overcompensated back too much in the other direction now.  Of course, My preference is for the late 80's 1990's Maize, and who knows exactly what that is or if it even was completely consistent.

I loved the maize. What annoyed me is the coaches/non-players attire. If you noticed they had the new maize on their shirts and the highlighter maize on their hats. I want consistency.

What I'm saying is, no other team is going to come out with two different colors for their main color. I liked the maize that they had, and I'm not even picky about the maize of old I just want it to be one color across the board. It looks ridiculous for a major college program to be wearing different shades of the same color at the same time.

I was initially against it because I always thought the mid-70's Michigan away unis looked dumpy and high-schoolish.  I've long favored our '80's away unis as the look we should go for.

That being said, I thought they looked pretty damn sweet.  Widen the shoulder and pants stripes a little and you have a winner.

Everyone's entitled to their color preference, but saying one is "correct" is not very accurate in the historical Michigan sense.  It's evolved over time and there have been numerous "official" shades of Maize.  Everyone's welcome to their preference, but when you say one is correct, it's almost implying that someone who likes a different shade is wrong and somehow less of a fan or something.
