Great Potential News!  Lots of DL/DT option coming on campus in June.  As for numbers for DT etc. I did see an opinion this week that our current DT commit - Davonte Miles - may actually be an better prospect on the OL if he would choose to follow that route.

FWIW - EJ Holland from Rivals also Future Cast the primary QB option for M yesterday - Nate Johnson - 3-star Denard-esque Dual threat QB from Fresno, CA area.

That's great news. But can he play CB?

Edit: looks like matt1114 posted the same question at the same time I did. Inquiring minds want to know.

The Michigan 247 guys have been gushing about him for couple weeks now (he was completely unranked before the 247 update this week). Basically a kid who hasn’t gone to any camps and does wrestling in the off-season which is why he hasn’t blown up. But his highlights show someone who plays angry, is consistently breaking double teams and getting in the backfield, and has a great burst and a high ceiling.

He is also making an unofficial visit to Michigan over May 1-2

Honest question: How many DTs will we be running in our new system? Is the DT position as big a need for us with so many amorphous guys floating around in the box?

Sounds like a great player. Hope we can reel him in.

Depends on how multiple we end up being and which variation of a 3-4 we end up using.

Some variations of the 3-4 defense use a SDE, a Nose, a DT and replace the other DE with a standup rush linebacker to go along with the three traditional linebackers. You go nickel, you’ll often see two DT types as down linemen, two standup guys on the edges and two middle linebackers to go with 5 DBs. There’s a lot of ways you can tweak a 3-4 based on personnel and situation.

If we add being multiple to that mix, there’s still a definite need for defensive tackles
