Better to get caught doing something stupid and face the consequences yourself than to hurt other people and watch them pay the consequences. Hope the discipline he faces helps him understand how life-altering some mistakes can be so he can steer clear of them in the future, both for his sake and for everyone around him.

Few weeks ago there was a DUI accident near the entrance of our subdivision. Our neighbor told us the sheriff made the drunk guy stand there and watch as they used the jaws of life to extract the innocent people he injured. Only after they were taken away by ambulance did the sheriff take the drunk guy to jail.

Our comments won't impact the situation one iota. In spite of the fact that my mother was killed by a drunk driver I would have no problem with someone saying 'if they really wanted to punish him they would have made him *play* Michigan.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Yes, I have a pretty clear idea of the impact of an anonymous message board comment. But a good friend lost her husband to a drunk who was driving with his license revoked, and we do tend to make light of such incidents.
