If things are still buggered later, I'll see if I can start some threads for the various football games.

WJBO reported they expected Miles to be offered the Michigan job within 48 hours and accept, with Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini, a former Miles defensive coordinator, a top candidate to replace him at LSU.. Per Rivals...I reported that Thursday.. screw rivals paywall

To bring all new members to the board up to speed on what they've missed so far...

1. We have no coach

2. Our first choice to replace our missing coach said "no thanks" and went pro

3. Everyone else we talk to seems to sign extensions with their existing team

4. The board doenst work anymore like it used to

5. We cant up or down vote

6. Cant start new threads

7. Recruits hanging by thread

8. Existing players hanging by same said thread

Is my life as a hardcore Michigan football fan sweet right now or what?

To state that Les Miles' 57 years is a negative is pure ageism by youth that has no understanding of what it takes to live to 57 years on this planet AND have no idea of Les' energy level.

I have never seen it here on the board but I am sick and tired of the ageism displayed against Les. Those who make the age agrument believe that once you hit a certain age you slow down  - really? How many lazy, career-peaked 40 or 45 year olds have you seen? Plenty.

I am sick of the age-ism against Les. We can point to over-signing, we can point to clock managemnet or his novel tactics at tight moments in the game, but age is not the issue, particularly at 57.

It's not ageism, it's a fact.  We want the next coach to be a long term hire, right?  Bo was here 21 years and retired when he was about Les' age because he didn't want to be coaching in his 60's.  There aren't too many coaches that end up coaching that long if they are hired when they are 57.  He'll be 77 if he lasts here 20 years.  They've been calling for Paterno to retire for 5 years or better.  I want a young coach (40 ish) who will stand a good chance of being here 20 years.  Les is not that guy.

A young coach who will be here for 20 years.  Yes, all the smart schools are doing it. Like a few years ago when Stanford hired a young coach who would be there . . .  oh . . . wait.

There is no guarantee that anyone stays around that long.  Even if you hire a young coach, they may bolt after 5 to 10 years.  Let's say Hoke comes here and goes 9 wins, 10 wins, then 13 wins and a BCS,  Don't you think the pros will come after him too?  Are you really that sure he turns down NFL $.

If we hire Miles, lets get Loeffler as the OC.  Then he can take over when Less leaves in 10 years or so.  Problem solved,

When was the last time a head coach left Michigan fto be the HC or anywhere else.  To my knowledge it hasn't happened.  Why?  Because Michigan is Michigan. It's been the last stop for every HC that I can think of.   Right, there's no guarantee the coach stays 20 years.  But let's try to increase those odds a bit, huh?

I do not see age as an issue when your team produces 11-win seasons year in and year out in the SEC West, unless you're an LSU fan.  I don't know what's going through their minds, but it seems pretty ytOSU-ish: i.e. we're supposed to be playing for an MNC every year RABBLE RABBLE, or words to that effect.  He's already won a MNC at LSU.  Maybe he wants a fresh challenge?

I'll take him over Miles and Hokemon.  Both too old.  Hoke doesn't even have a good established track record.  Yes Mark Stoops has NO track record as head coach, but he does have a good coaching pedigree.  I'll take a chance on him or Chuck Martin over Miles and Hoke.

I don't think its out of the question but an EXTREME long shot.   I have said this on a few other posts but he "supposedly" has expressed interest in the job previously.   However, why leave a 12-4 team that may be bound for the Super Bowl?   It would be about timing and the ONLY way it would happen is if KC beats Baltimore on Sunday and they are out of the playoffs.  Even at that point, its still an extreme longshot.

I think John would almost be a better hire than Jim.   But its not happening.  I'm reserved to Hokeamania in AA at this point, just hope it works out.   Not thrilled about it.  I at least hope he gets Loeffler back if he is hired.  Whoever it is, I will be in support and hoping for the best.

I think the media will be nicer to Miles.  One of the reasons that they went after RR is because he didn't have a spotless record and he wasn't a Michigan man.

At the same time, I think DB is trying to make a Tressel-like hire.  He's searching the ranks of the lower tier schools to find a hire like OSU did.

The coach of Delaware has had his team in the playoffs for how many years straight?  Played for 3 national titles.  Go down to D3... How about the coach from Mount Union College?  He's only won 9 of the last 17 national titles and won every regular season game for a 10 year period.

That's a lot of success.  But it's questionable that he can turn that into success at FBS level.

A very good friend of mine played for him in the 90's and said he is a better man than he is a coach. And with this:

To date, Kehres has a record of 303–23–3 at Mount Union, giving him a winning percentage of .926, the highest in college football history.

His teams have won 10 NCAA Division III National Football Championships (1993, 1996–1998, 2000–2002, 2005–2006, 2008).

as a record, Id say that's a strong statement. Alas, it is D-III, and he is 61. Also, I doubt he'd leave Alliance, since he's been at Mount Union since 1974; he seems pretty firmly entrenched.

Not a bad "out of the box" idea though.

I went to Ohio Northern and I remember the game that ended their ten year no loss in the regular season streak.  It was something that is still talked about on campus now, and that was 5 years ago.  He's really built a hell of a program down there.
