The Budweiser frogs were great but I miss the Bud Bowl the most.

Tell the board your vote for the GOAT for Super Bowl ads.

It’s going to be even worse this year. A lot of big name advertisers have already backed out this year because they’re afraid of sending the wrong message or offending people while we’ve got a pandemic going on, along with all the social unrest and political discord that’s gone on the last year.

Get ready for a year of sanitized, PC commercials because hey, let’s not hurt anyone’s feelings. The only thing that might redeem the commercials this year are good movie trailers or if somehow Rockstar makes a GTA 6 announcement.

To me there's a significant difference between Chiefs and Redskins/Indians.  The former is a specific tribal position whereas the latter is a blanket term for an entire race of people.

It's something like the difference to calling a team the Kings vs. calling them the Europeans/Whiteskins.

I spent some of my advertising career working on Super Bowl commercials. This was back in the 90's and I worked in the group that did all the most memorable Anheuser Busch spots -- I Love You Man, Whassup, etc...These spots cost a ton to produce and then the airtime is crazy expensive. It is possible they didn't want to spend that kind of money this year, when people are struggling. It's not difficult to make ads that are entertaining without being controversial or un-PC. In fact, companies the size of Anheuser Busch or McDonald's never ok spots that are un-PC. They don't need or want the negative publicity. It's not about the messages, but more about the money.

WASSSUPPP as annoying as it is now, it was fun back then.

Also, the automaker/Detroit commercials after the bailouts had a lot of nostalgia. The Chrysler Eminem commercial. GM had a "we still build rockets" one not long after as well (my dad was a GM lifer).

The Duraliner truck bed liner commercial from 1986 may have been the best investment a small company ever made in a Super Bowl commercial. Big risk, big reward.

The commercials the past few years have been terrible - overly sanitized because advertisers are afraid of offending anyone, formulaic of past commercial success (celeb cameo, animals, etc.) and generally just not that creative. Obviously there have been some exceptions that worked.

I commented above on this. Large companies like Anheuser Busch have never done controversial spots. I don't know what people are talking about when they say advertisers are afraid of being un-PC. That's just not accurate. It's never been a thing. The lack of good spots is because current creatives do mostly digital and not enough television, and don't know how to tell good stories. The death of good advertising is lamentable, especially by the people who used to do the great spots. Advertising is just a different animal now and it has nothing to do with wokeness.

Really looking forward to seeing the Dominos ad with Denny Hamlin and the young girl, "Hamlin, I like your PJ's!" for the umpteenth time.

I may just chew my arm off and beat myself with it.

When I think of Super Bowl commercials, Clydesdales and Doritos immediately come to mind, but one I really liked and always remember is the weiner dogs running in the field towards the humans dressed as Heinz bottles, as "Without You" is playing.

There’s just little creativity in Super Bowl ads anymore. It’s random celebrity in a completely WACKY situation and that’s the spot. That’s it. The game is getting a big name, not writing a good bit.
