Mitch McGary Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
Congrats to Mitch for earning his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor this season.

This past week he averaged 13 points, 7 boards and 3.5(!) steals. Glad to see him stepping up in Jordan Morgan's absence.

Award should be renamed "Michigan Recruiting Class of 2012 Freshman of the Week Award"

Congratulations to Mitch McGary - he really did have an excellent week in Morgan's absence.
If I counted right, that now makes 5 Player Of The Week awards and 7 Freshman Of The Week awards on the season for Michigan, or about 40% of all such honors given to date. Definitely will not complain about that.

it's a testament to just how good and how deep this team is that we've picked up 40% of the season's weekly awards thus far. And with some people like McGary seemingly just hitting their stride, that percentage should only get better. What an amazing team we have this season!

The big fella, Mitch McGary, is just hitting his stride, while his fellow frosh, GRIII, Stauskas, and LeVert, are looking for their second wind.
Once McGary learns to use his wide body, he won't get so many shots blocked, and will make M a match up nightmare for opposing coaches. Feed the Pig.

If Mitch can consistenly hit 12-15 foot jumpers like he did at Wisconsin, I'll be a very happy person.
Congrats on the award. Spike or Caris...you're next.

relatively easy baskets in OT..... I'm sure this has been "touched on" but I've been avoiding all form of sports media since Saturday. Loss is far from his fault. Just a culmination of shitty circumstances. And that will be the extent of my venting. Moving on.

You know he got absolutely hacked on that missed layup right?

That was a freak play, and word on the street is that he was fouled. I'm genuinely excited to have a big that can extend the floor a little and knock down a 15-footer. Who was the last big to consistently hit from outside? Chris Hunter? I guess DeShawn Sims could count, although he wasn't a true "5" on the court.

I still feel like he's cautious, offensively. Ie, not dunking late in the game vs. Wisconsin, missing the layup.

It is great that GRIII, McGary, and Stauskas have all been recognized. But at the end of the day, I'd gladly hand back all those awards for a win against Wisconsin, and Indiana, and Ohio.

Well...no shit.

This team should peak just in time for the Tournament. The league has adjusted to Stauskas and GRIII, and they have a few weeks to adjust to those adjustments. The return of Stauskas as a legitimate outside threat is a must if Michigan is going to make the Final Four.
Wiscy had to have a gift from the basketball gods to get a home win over Michigan. The bright spot here is that, after the game in EL, the schedule sets up well for Michigan. The three tough teams they play are all home games.
Whatever happens in EL, the Wolverines are positioned to run the table the rest of the way. All of the tough games will be at home, and the freshmen will get to see Indiana and Sparty for a second time. Maybe a nice rematch with Wiscy in the Big Ten Tournament on a neutral court without a "gift" for Wiscy will turn out differently, too.
As long as the Wolverines play well enough for a one or two seed in THE Tournament, they have a great chance to at least make it to the second week, where anything can happen. I like this team's chances.

No doubt winner for POW this week was Hardaway. Brust throwing up a miracle doesn't change that Timmy hit that 3 2 seconds earlier and the 5 vs Ohio.
