Says this guy on Twitter who apparently texted with him.

2016 Detroit ( MI ) 4-star PG Cassius Winston shared some details with me about why U-M did not make his final list. pic.twitter.com/YzCtIb9yCs

Edit: maybe this is not news--I hadn't seen it confirmed by anyone though.

Yeah... I just meant the part about this guy texting a recruit and then turning the texts into a story. I have no problem with the coaching staff pulling the kids scholarship. But this treads on the line of tweeting at recruits, which is generally frowned upon.

Oh, if that is the case than I rescind my bad feelings toward it. I assumed only coaches were allowed to text recruits and even that was only at certain periods throughout the recruiting process. I guess that does make sense though. And he wouldn't have shared it if he didn't want it to become public I suppose.

He had a scholly offer and had ample time to accept it.  The absolute last thing we need is to be the bridesmaid once again while we wait and hope he goes with us only to find out we're #2 once again.

Good for coach Beilein.  And Walter's absolutely right - shit or get off the pot indeed.

But this is why people were confused when we took a second center in this class.  We are going to have a ton of big guys on a team that generally only plays one at a time and the resulting scholarship crunch means we couldn't wait out our top targets decision despite being in the top 2 for him.

Good for Beilein. He's looking out for Michigan.

Would not have been good if we got burned twice in the same year due to waiting around on one guy.

Instead, we get a consensus 4 star PG who plays for the same AAU team that Trey came from. Harbaugh even gave Beilein a hand!

I thought we got burned by taking Battle while waiting on Langford. The exact opposite of what you're suggesting. Jaylon Brown popped up late in the recruiting cycle. I don't believe we missed on anyone else we wanted and had a good shot at while waiting on him. Banking the scholarship was a good option. We took Wagner during that time.
