Michigan remains #4 in AP Poll

After a big win but a 2nd straight week of not blowing out an opponent, UM retains the #4 spot in the AP poll but just barely. In total votes, we’re 3 ahead of Clemson. To put that in perspective, both OSU at #3 and USC at #6 are more than 100 points away from us or Clemson. Here’s to destroying the Hoosiers and giving ourselves some breathing room.

Bama also hops Georgia to retake the top spot (by 2 votes!). The other B1G school in the top 25 is Penn State at #10. Maryland, Minnesota, Illinois, and Purdue all received some votes.

  1. Alabama (25)
  2. Georgia (28)
  3. Ohio State (10)
  4. Michigan
  5. Clemson
  6. USC
  7. Oklahoma State
  8. Tennessee
  9. Ole Miss
  10. Penn State
  11. Utah
  12. Oregon
  13. Kentucky
  14. NC State
  15. Wake Forest
  16. BYU
  17. TCU
  18. UCLA
  19. Kansas
  20. Kansas State
  21. Washington
  22. Syracuse
  23. Mississippi State
  24. Cincinnati
  25. LSU

Also receiving votes: Washington State 91, Baylor 88, Florida State 78, Arkansas 76, James Madison 39, Florida 37, Maryland 25, Coastal Carolina 17, Minnesota 14, Tulane 9, Illinois 6, North Carolina 5, Texas A&M 4, Purdue 2, Oklahoma 2

....and equally as crappy in late wins v Mizzou and Kent.  OSU absolutely deserves to be ahead of them, and there's a strong case for them to have the top spot.  But we're talking about a group of media folk who somehow put 4-1 LSU in the top 25 and left 4-1 FSU out despite FSU's head to head road win in Coach Kelly's home state of Louweeezyanna

Whatever.  We just need to keep winning.  Beat Indiana

I don't think we have seen enough from any of these teams to justify shifting the top spots. OSU's best win is a close win against a down Notre Dame team at home. Alabama was fortunate to defeat Texas who promptly dropped one against Texas Tech. Georgia as you said suffered close victories over Kent and Missouri.

This is all good news for us. They are mortal.

I hate to say it, but I don’t see why Ohio State isn’t number one in the polls. Both Alabama and Georgia have struggled at times.

OSU, to date, hasn't played anyone. The two wins that would normally mean something, Notre Dame and Wisconsin, don't this year. ND is starting to come around but they have not looked very good to start the year at all, and can't score points. Lost to Marshall at home, could have (should have?) lost to Cal. Wisconsin is trash and can't even do well the 1-2 things that they historically do very well, run the ball and play defense. OSU is not going to end up playing anyone until it goes to Penn State, which is almost a month away.

Now if they go to State College and boat race a 5-1 or 6-0 PSU team, then I'd say go ahead and just put them #1. But OSU has been getting to beat up on nobodies and underachievers up to this point.

Alabama's entire offense is essentially Bryce Young. Without him, they absolutely lose to Texas, and that Arkansas game is probably more interesting.

They don't have the household names at RB and WR anymore like they used to. I suppose there's time for guys to emerge, but every other year, Saban seems to have these guys stockpiled and ready to roll off the assembly line to destroy all in their wake. But it seems like this year, no one is really emerging. And if that doesn't change, that could bite them. But they are lucky that Bryce Young is just that good.

I think you can argue that OSU should be ahead of Alabama right now, but even with Georgia's struggles, they've still played a tougher schedule and looked better (overall) against better competition. So I wouldn't peg OSU ahead of Georgia in any capacity right now. OSU's defense has not had to be challenged by anyone. They've played two atrocious P5 offenses in ND and Wisconsin, overmatched G5 squads, and Rutgers. All at home, to boot. They haven't been remotely challenged yet.

That said, if OSU convincingly beats Penn State or thrashes them, and Georgia continues to look uninspired, then I'd say OSU should vault to #1.

Alabama did beat Arkansas after Young went out and their backup qb ran an 80 yard td. Must not have watched the second half of that game. OSU is not number 1 at all. They keep Stroud in most of the game cuz they want him to get the Heisman. If we kept JJ in that long in the blowouts we could've scored much more than the 55 a game we were getting... I swear most people aren't watching the games just checking box scores.

Me thinking out loud here:  I know these easy early season schedules are annoying for most fan bases . . . however it really reduces what a team puts on tape for an opponent to scout.

Would you rather have "lack of seasoning" against early season opponents or "provide lack of tape" for rivals later in the season?

Don’t like y’all, but at least you guys take care of your cupcakes. There’s some good evidence that UGA should’ve gone down Saturday. Just bad coaching by Mizzou. Hell, if Kent State is making you sweat, you probably have some underlying problems that need to get figured out.

Mizzou screwed themselves settling for FGs in the first half. They blew a 1st and Goal at the 1 trying to hurry up and catch UGA off guard (which never worked all game) and got whistled for a false start. Convert a couple those into TDs and they win and UGA would've fallen to #4 in the polls because SEC is awesome (or at least that's what the SEC announcers said).

I figured that Kent State game last week was just a sense of malaise and not really getting up for a blatantly overmatched opponent. But after this Mizzou game, I'm not too sure. This game against Mizzou should've been over by halftime, and you arguably should've lost the game altogether.

Either way, if I'm Tennessee or Florida, I might be starting to smell a smidge of blood in the water. Especially if Georgia continues to struggle this coming weekend.

I remember the days not too long ago when playing a team with a pulse on the road was basically an auto L for this program. I am enjoying a comfortable W over a good Iowa team and our time as a clear top 5 team. Life's good

I disagree. OSU has played a softer schedule. 3 cupcakes and 2 tough ones (ND and Wisky) haven’t left home yet. We’ve done the same played Maryland and Iowa who I think are better than those 2 OSU played, plus went on the road.. just my opinion. We are far behind Bama and Georgia though.

I’m just admiring our record of 17-2 in last 19 games. One of those loses coming at the hands of one of the most talented CFB squads I’ve ever seen.
