Didn't want to make a separate thread, but Michigan commit Brooks Bahr is playing on ESPN right now. Plays at Loyola Academy in suburban Chicago. Taking on St. Xavier from Ohio.

Loyola just scored to go to 14-0.

Apparently, Kirk Herbstreit's son is a backup QB for St Xavier.

EDIT:

In case anyone is wondering, Loyola won 44-20 and pulled the starters when it was 41-7.

Article starts with a mention of Brooks Bahr.

There are 119 players on Loyola’s varsity roster. All the way at the bottom is number 99, Brooks Bahr. But the 6-6, 270-pound defensive lineman is the first player everyone notices when the Ramblers take the field.

The defense Bahr leads was uncommon and exceptional on Saturday in Wilmette. The Ramblers dominated Cincinnati St. Xavier 44-20. The Bombers didn’t score on Loyola’s starting defense.

I'd love an in-depth analysis on this topic. It seems to me like you'd have tiers or tranches.

5* and 4*: the guys everyone wants, so it would be more instructive (and a LOT harder) to look at who we COULD have landed (interest, academics) and chose NOT to pursue. Probably an impossible thing to analyze.

3*-2*: this isn't a groundbreaking thought on my part, but this area is where scouting shows itself. There's also "high 3*" vs "mid 3*" vs "low 3*". Looking at the "hit rate" in this category would tell us - on average - how good our staff is at identifying underrated talent.

There's inherent issues here: football players work out (or not) based on a lot of things. And it could have nothing to do with football; a guy might fall apart on the field if his parents get divorced, or he goes through a tough breakup. Or he was just criminally overrated to begin with (cough cough Kevin Grady).

Their talent evaluation is really good. For example, I'd say the talent evaluation of Harbaugh's staff is much better than Hoke's was. Despite pulling in some very good classes (at least per the recruiting rankings), Hoke's classes seemed to have a ton of busts (perhaps best exemplified by the 2013 OL class, five 4*s and a 5* that combined to do essentially nothing). Harbaugh is much better at minimizing that.

But that doesn't mean everything is always rosy. I'd say a much better indicator of how recruiting is going is looking at how commits fall on the coaches' priority list. I have no doubt the coaches can identify talent, but is this a guy the coaches really want (for example Bush and Haskins were identified as 5* talent despite not having a 5* ranking), or are they taking him because their top five choices went elsewhere? Which still isn't to say the guy won't pan out, but it's definitely tamps down the excitement...

Average, depending on the week. Some awful teams and some with talent/good schemes.

CC would still be a solid player on any team in the country, btw. The questions aren't his speed or elusiveness but durability and if he fully translates to the next level. Against any HS competition he'd be solid, IMO.

But, is he a five * prospect?   Everyone knows the only good, I mean really good players are 5* prospects.

There is no such thing as development - player effort - discipline - learning - and growth.

That’s why the Bucks defeated Michigan last November in Ann Arbor.  Remember - Michigan couldn’t handle the Bucks 15 or so 5* players - and the weather.  Yeah, it seems like yesterday - Michigan just folded after the opening kickoff.  They weren’t resilient - all Bucks all the time.

oh.. my apologies .. it seems as if I’ve mixed up the teams in that game.  Sorry about that…

Pretty tough league. For background Saline is basically the OSU riding a 45 game conference win streak. Dexter is probably one of the most potent offenses in the conference with Cabana, a 3/4 star TE headed for MSU, and a decent QB. Those are probably the best two schools.

However, they also have Temperance Bedford (a very very tricky triple option team), Monroe who’s usually a playoff contender, and Pioneer who has been a playoff team in the past.

“Cole Cabana went off in Dexter high school’s season opening win against Grosse Point South Saturday afternoon.”

C’mon people, it’s Grosse Pointe.
