I've never done one of these before but it's about 20 minutes to kick-off and none of the usual suspects have stepped forward so I guess it's time. I'm feeling good about this game and think Michigan wins 24-14. Meanwhile, over on ESPN Sparty takes on the Cats at noon so we've got plenty of Michigan (the state of) football to watch early.
Michigan - Iowa Game Thread
scored only one TD over the last 3 games, I predict we'll have twice that many in this game alone. I saw some things last week at NU that make me honestly believe our offense is on the verge of figuring things out enough to be trending upwards. But the weather won't be condusive to producing any kind of real offensive explosion.
I'm calling it Michigan 17, Iowa 13.
I am loyal to Michigan and have been for a lifetime. This is the worst offense I can remember and Gardner is the worst overall quarterback we have had in forever. Poor decisions, takes to long making decisions. He is hoorible. The defense played great today but ran out of gas trying again to hold up this horrible offense. Gardner and Borges need to go. a 7 and 5 record and a Motor City Bowl or something similar is inexcusable for this program. What about next year? Gardner back? So what. No offensive line, we lose Gallon and the recruits will start falling again. We are one of the bottom teams in the Big Ten and have been for 6 years with no end in sight. We can not compete against Michigan State and Ohio. We will be back someday but it seems years and coaches away from that day coming. I cannot wait to be here for when that day finally comes. Hopefully the AD does something sooner instead of later. This progran should not be one of the worst teams in the country.
So long as OSU doesn't go to the title game, the Big Ten will have a winning bowl record. I guarantee it.
I have a bad feeling about this game... I'd like to see better fundamentals that lead to a more solid win. 24-27 Michigan wins
The winds are at 20 mph...so Borges will probably call a lot of really long routes. Because he can.
That will be his excuse to run into a nine man box 40 times this game.
This is kinda wierd. Seems like the board isnt excited for the game (like before MSU) or pissed off (like Northwestern). People seems just bleah......
Hell no. I'm there too.
What is the best way to live stream?
FUCK SHIT STUPID FIRE
We've had over 100 negative yard plays?? Yuck!
ZOMG HOKE IS WEARING SLEEVES WTF
Hoke wearing sleeves......what is this world coming to?
No jackets allowed!
Require a Stream.
Help a Canadian out.
No No No please
Does Iowa have natural grass? I thought they had FieldTurf, but it doesn't look like it.
I'm excited. And we are going to win
Please be right!
Feel bad for Rawls.
He's had a tough road.
Hope Thomas is going to be ok!
I've got a pretty good feeling about this, new OL shuffle.
magnuson at LG and Kalis at RG
Hoke was reading MGoBlog earlier this week. He has on sleeves. The MGoComplainers can get their panties out of a bunch now
Never will happen
WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP CLARKIE??? AFTERALL....HE IS A CANADIAN FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!
I think of myself as a part-time Canadian BTW. My parents had a summer home in Sarnia and I spent every summer there and didnt come back to Michigan until school started back up. Learned new words like "ah", "zed" (which is actually a letter) and that your car goes into the garrragge.
I love Canada.
Carted off. Shit. Hopefully he is OK.
Why the fuck is Toussaint starting?
Another ACL looks like
Pretty weak pass interference call
Positive yardage for fitz!?! Wow!
He said he'd start one of the young guys...dissapointing. Green earned the start with last week's performance.
If only this draw play woulda been introduced earlier in the year
I know right
Think Glasgow just got blown up on that 2nd down
Glasgow needs to to sit.
Then who replaces him?
Miller because he atleast can snap and better at making the line calls. the reason for Glasgow was because he was bigger but if he getting beat like that go with the true center which Glasgow is not.
Brilliant play call. Pitch it to one of the slowest guys on the field
So Fitz gets the first carry...interesting...
That was, uh, interesting
Why would we run an option with Kerridge? Speed option should probably be with a back that has speed. Just a guess.
Option with Kerridge....?
...if they didn't corner blitz. Iowa did a good job of hiding it and not showing thier hand too early.
was that an option to Kerridge? on 3rd and 5?? is this real life?
Why in the hell is there even an option to the fullback in the playbook?
to the fb?
Hey! That's Devin's move.
Jake MF'n Ryan!!! Al Borges' secret weapon. This is exactly how he planned it.
You are alive and will still? Where are you residing these days?
Defense taking matters into their own hands this week.
Jake Ryan! Welcome back fella!
Hell yeah Jake!
That asshole ref HATES anybody being happy. I'll bet he's called than on every TD ever scored on every game he's called.
Sad on the inside.
Celebration penalites are fucking stupid and complete judgement calls
Jake MotherFucking Ryan
Good to have you back, sir.
Unsportmanlike penalties are such BS. You make a big play like that and you are going to be pumped up, let them celebrate it
My god.. Does that ref really need to call that.?
Who scores more points today the offense or defense?
Wile's a STUD.
Entire board gets flagged for excessive celebration.
Instead of helmet off we take off our pants!?
Nice opening defensive play, but a little soft on the second series.
Has Iowa scored?
Stiffened up and did a great job shutting down that drive! Nice work.
So is Ruddock now the Unstoppable Throw God?
That speed option was very obviously a check by DG at the line, so blame him if you must.
It seems like you guys are so excited to post your hatred for Al that you forget to, you know, watch the game.
The check off worked better than the original play probably would have, but it's still odd to have a pitch play to a fullback.
Agreed. DG might have forgotten who his RB was. And it sucks that DG has such a limited number of plays to check into. Still, hating Al Borges has obviously taken priority over actually watching the game for a big segment of the fanbase.
We've seen that check before. The problem is that the coaches don't trust any RB to pass block, so Kerrige is back there to block. And when Devin wants to check, guess who becomes the pitch man...
well Jake came to play today
Awesome tackle Ryan
Should have punted
Shankapotomus this guy
Of course you can. That's why they wear them. Plus, who is our AD?
God I love Mattison. That dude is fucking nails
Defense has started out aggressive. Play 60 minutes that way and we have a good shot at the W.
Iowa. Gotta capitalize with points.
Besides Jake Ryan on that drive, Willie Henry continues to play well.
For the life of me I don't get why Courtney Avery plays so much. He is not one of the top 2 safities or top 4 CBs IMO. Is that a Hoke, Mattison, or Mallory decision?
I've been saying this forever and yet he is always on the field.. It drives me crazy
Let's go offense!
Great start to this game. Now we need a good drive here to at least give Iowa bad starting psotions, but hopefully for points.
Can we get Norfleet in there to run that play???
An end a round without bringing in Norfleet to tip the play?
Fire Borges. Get it trending, twitterers. #FireBorges
Fixed that for ya chief.
Shoot out in WL
Another option on 3rd down. Awesome.
What the fuck was that?
So everyone loves Green and hates Fitz? How'd they do on their first carries again?
This is a dumb comment.
Fitz had a hole, Green faced an unblocked LB.
Green was hit by someone who was unblocked...that usually doesn't work out too well.
Pretty hard to run the ball when you are hit right when you get the ball!
It wasn't obvious on 2nd an one when they bring in Green in an Ace set...everyone knew what was coming.
Um, did you see the completely unblocked LB run right through the line because they tried an incredibly obvious run play that Iowa knew was coming considering they had 5 guys on the LOS and both LBs 2 yards off the LOS who immediately ran right to the point of attack and got there before Green could?
I like Fitz, he just isn't very good
Why are we so bad on 3rd down?
Horrid offensive coach that's single handedly cost us nearly every game he's coached on the road?
He was caught by a defensive lineman.
Largest gain of the day by the offense was on the interference. Ageed, lets do it again!
Borges saw that the option didn't work last series so clearly they would not be expecting it this time!!!
I wish one day we could have a dynamic offense like Iowa.
Too cute. Always too cute.
2nd and 1 and we can't pick it up??? That's the Michigan I remember.
Needs to cut up inside sometimes. There was a hole there and he always just bounces.
Grrr... Wile ... grrrr...
Uggh.....Really crappy punt
I hope that punt was into the wind
I know he can beat whoever Iowa has to offer.
Do quick slants or 5-yard outs not exist in this offense? Crappy option plays that have no chance at success are all we have in our bag of tricks?
Nope. Power runs and deep routes FTW.
No player chokes harder when we need him most
Would be nice to have our actual punter
Freaked out on a slightly low snap. Really hurts. Like a major penalty.
No team in the nation is worse than us when it comes to 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1.
I form run for a loss. Who would've guessed.... Except everyone on the earth besides borges
Looks like the D will have to win this one for us, since we can rely on getting zilch from a Borges offense.
Yet again, opposing D seems to know EXACTLY what is coming
U could see a stacked box and blitz on 2nd down...but no audible.
Negative yards on both. Awesome coaching Borges
going with the old -2 then -1 yard rushes to keep em honest
When was the last time we converted at 3rd down? It wouldve been in the Nebraska game.....mustlve been quite a play!
We get 2nd and 1 and don't run play action? Yet, when we can't run the ball all game and are in 2nd and 11 we DO run play action...wtf?
Right. If ever a time to go play action, that was it. Classic overthinking by Borges
As soon as Green came in and we went to that 2WR/2TE Ace set, I said "HB Dive over the LG" and that's what we ran.
We ran the same play to Green int OT vs. Northwestern (on the drive where we got a FG) and it was also stopped for a loss. I believe the next play was the 3rd down pass to Gallon that went off his fingertips.
Then when we go Pistol, it's ALWAYS option. Especially in short yardage situations.
Borges' play calling is a fucking JOKE.
Why do I get the feeling we're going to see a lot of this today? Defense will play well but be constantly put in bad field position because the offense just can't do anything.
Giving up too many chunk plays right now!
Just drove his guy back and put him on his butt...nice.
Man, this D is sometimes really bi-polar
That's bend but don't break
I was talking with an OSU fan the other day that doesn't really watch a lot of Michigan games. His first comment based on his observation, was Borges is the problem.
I know it is obvious, just didn't know it was that obvious even based on limited viewing by the opponent fans.
Before or after he pooped in your cooler?
All we had to do was take the snap and fire it out to Gallon. They gave us the 1st down.
Looking slow as hell
Iowa has a less predictable offense than Michigan. How is that even possible...
It's getting hard to convince my kids what michigan football really is and used to be. They've already left the room and I don't blame them.
Hate to say it but Iowa looks better than us. We scored on one big play. Not sure how much scoring we will do the rest of the game. The D will again be asked to shut it down for us to have any chance to win....not sure on the chances of that happening. Borges needs to make an...wait for it, wait for it, wait for it...ADJUSTMENT!
Did you need this game to tell you that Iowa is a better team?
Stats seem to indicate we're pretty close. At home I'd pick us to win, on the road I picked us to lose. Which team is actually better? We beat Minnesota by a similar score and both needed OT to beat NW, and both lost to MSU by a similar score. I continue to hope eventually we turn this corner and play up to our ability, which I fully believe is better than them. But the pessimist and lack of confidence in Borges tells me we will lose.
Their O is much more organized. Each play has a purpose. They aren't randomly generated like ours are.
Can't move the ball to save our lives / Iowa can move the ball
Death by TEs!
Ugh - brutal defensive possession.
I don't get it. Why are they even reviewing that?
Let's see - they can move the ball, we can't. Guess who wins?
Any one that's watching this gm and the earlier games of the season and thinks Borges doesn't need fired is an absolute dumbass.
Why does the defense continue to bring ZERO pressure?
I miss that "OKIE" package where we put 7-8 guys on the line and only rushed 4. You never knew who was coming.
It confused the hell out of QB.
Now please call some plays that actually make sense
The last 2 drives looked way to easy by Iowa. First play of the game they blitz and cause a pick 6. Last two drives no pressure on the QB and Iowa goes right down the field. Ughh!
You have to be able to stick to a freakin TE son!!!!
He had to have lined up incorrectly...he was waaay too far to his left. We had no one to provide contain on that side of the field.
So we blitz on the first play and force a pick six... No blitzing dince
I would like some pressure from the dline. I don't like the secondary either, but right now I have more dislike for the line.
The pass rush is really not keeping a formed pocket. Guys rushing in front have to stay in front and collapse from the top. Way to many huge holes for Ruddock to move into.
Let's put some blame where deserved here on offense - Gardner has stunk to open the game. 2 bad passes and a terrible decision twice on the option plays - once to audible to it and then to not just cut up the field on the second one.
Well, that was actually a good throw to funchess
When was the last time we had a kickoff return for a TD? Feels like it's been over a decade
Norfleet gets to the 20 in 3 seconds. And then he falls over.
Catch the ball.
Isn't a good returner. Why not try somebody else back there?
That's a catch! He had possession and fumbled it out of bounds.
Come on. Nice fucking pass.
Oh man, gotta catch that Funchess...
Like the play call though.
Wow. Good call. Awful throw
I feel like a POW in Gitmo watching this offense.
Wtf was that throw Gardner? Falling backwards ...
Come on DG
We blow ass.
Fire Borges. Now.
Who the hell did not see that coming?
Well, it may have actually worked had either of the two offensive linemen tried to block the 2 Iowa defenders
Michigan Football is thoroughy unenjoyable to watch.
Holy fuck Wile
At this whole fucking team. They suck.
I have been a supporter of Gardiner all year, but if you can't hit those short passes you shouldn't be starting. He needs to get his head on straight!
It's not that hard.
announcers start predicting our plays... we have a serious problem.
Jesus Christ. What happened to Matt Wile? Is he on cocaine?
Or punting into a 20 mph wind?
I would accept your argument if this were the first or second game he has been shaky this year
Ugh come on Wile.
Where are you? WILE has been bad all year at punting. He needs to focus on FGs and KOs.
Tire fire. Can't get a first down, Wile shanked punt. Short field for Iowa.
Rinse and Repeat.
We literally have NO offense. None.
And Wile is also managing to hand Iowa super-awesome field position.
This is terrible. 4 blockers against 2 ad we lose horribly. Worse line play we've seen in decades.
Where is the accountability Hoke? Sit his ass
Wile...losing the field position game early...again
This offense is so bad. I'm trying to keep my spirits up and be optimistic but damn, shit is unwatchable.
Go root for someone else asshole.
This offense is pure garbage. It's now surprising when they have a productive play
To his credit, Funchess should have had that long pass. On the next play Gardner should have thrown it without skipping off the turf.
There are plenty of bad calls and poor execution.
- Funchess drop of great pass from Gardner
- Gardner terrible throws on wide open out route and bubble screen
- two o-linemen whiff blocks on screen play and then Fitz gets crunched
- Gardner audibling to option play with Kerridge at TB and right into teeth of Iowa D
What is going on with Wile?
Borges.. Never fails.. screwing up a good start.
Not Borges. Players on O are playing like shit right now. Dropped passes. Terrible throws. No blocking on the screen where we had the right numbers to make it work.
Seriously? I think instead of calling plays in or using signals Borges must be using a giant whiteboard. You can tell the play call from Ann Arbor.
Another horrible effort when we really needed something good
I have an idea!!! Let's run a screen except nobody block anyone!!!
Wile is not a good punter. That is all.
Wile will never ever play again. No coaches are dumb enough to play him - are they?
don't we have another scholarship punter in Kenny Allen on the roster? it's he known to have a big leg
Of course ferentz goes for these against us only
Way to hold up. C'mon offense
Awesome work, defense. Ferentz needs to learn the rules of football. Assface.
That's what we may need to win.
Of course Ferentz goes for it
It's not PI if the ball is tipped idiot
Heaven forbid you know the rules of the game you are playing.
Nice job Cam!
Against ANY other team Ferentz is punting right now. Against Michigan he ALWAYS goes for it....it's amazing. We bring something out in hime.
Nice stop D
I would rather not look through 500+ comments by half. Thanks and Fire Borgess
With four "quarter" threads, we could highlight each of Michigan's four first downs in this game.
Did we crack 20 yds this quarter?
Going to try and hit Gallon on the speed out.
looks extremely slow, and not very aggressive at the point of attack.
Pat yourselves on the back, you just made it through another quarter of Al Borges coached football.
Without a TD. Or is that just implied cuz it's Borges football?
Man this team is ugly. Iowa looks fast for once.
What Do ya know... 3rd down.
We got 11 yards that quarter....BEAUTIFUL
Anything >0 is a win!
Funchess drops an easy one, no push up front....yikes
hurt. Great call, great throw...
But then you get clothes or something else shitty you don't want.
It pains me that Michigan's offense is now that predictable.
As brutal as these games can be, I can't stop watching. This is unconditional love. I'll watch even if it hurts. I'll still watch if Matt Wile's next four punts are for 4 yards, collectively. Im insane.
No. I think this is a real fan. You watch, get pissed, get happy. But you watch and cheer and bitch
I know right. I've been conditioned from an early age. My boys can't watch more than 10 minutes because UM is so bad.
You fully encapsulated my feelings every Saturday. Insanity
Where has Jehu been? I feel like I haven't seen much of him since September
2nd prediction (first one and QB sprint rollout with Gallon on the speed out)
OR...QB draw with Gardner.
I'd actually take the draw if you actually spread the field and give him Kerridge as a lead blocker.
Whatever happened to Barbasol & Rotel ads? I miss those.
The trucker coming home to his sexy wife is a good one
Iowas major weakness is their secondary. Our only strengths are Gallon and Funchess. But yes Borges lets keep pounding the ball. I'm hoping once we have the wind at our back we get the passing game going
Here it comes
Glad i did, and dont feel ashamed. Fuck the yuck.
3rd down here. Gotta get it
Do we have any first downs?
That was obvious.
Stacked WRs is ALWAYS a quick out with out offense.
And it was open too. A DL knocking down a pass has nothing to do with it.
If you're trying to force the ball into a tight window...tipped passes are more likely. He was throwing an out into the boundary and they were playing zone.
Sure if it makes it through the forest he's open. But that can be a big IF.
We are getting positive yards on 1st down and staying out of 3rd and long. Unfortunately however, we still cannot convert on 3rd downs.
Make them pay!
