coming up shortly on CBS
Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Hopefully CBS doesn't unleash 60 Minutes of unnecessary roughness on us.
My guess is it will be 60 minutes of talking about how difficult it is for smaller programs to compete against athletic powerhouses such as Michigan and Alabama.
If true, that would be a major let-down.
Kovacs...should be interesting
It's going to make us look like a football factory.
People on the old side here might remember a Today Show visit to UMich many years ago. So long ago that Jane Pauley was the co-anchor (/host) with Bryant Gumbel. Anyway, the show also featured Brown.
It appeared to me at the time that they were painting UMich as more of a generic "State U" than a Public Ivy. Our profiled first-year student was a hick from rural / semi-rural Michigan and Brown's was (of course) a well-spoken Philly Main Line specimen.
I was in the MMB, which was up REAL early (esp. for college students) to be in uniform on the steps of the Grad and performing occasionally. Willard Scott had a bunch of Fijis in togas or something helping with a weather segment. And they contrasted UM's band with Brown's, which is much more like Stanford's scatter band.
New uniformz?? (fingers crossed so we can all watch major freakout)
D'oh, seems we're the last segment.
Look in the promo they managed to turn Navy Seal leadership training into "look at this poor kids being worked full time in the off-season". I. HATE. EVERYTHING.
I already don't like this. I never thought I'd see an opportunity to train with them as a horrible thing. Heard nothing but positives from players and coaches about that trip
the blond doing the drug traffiking piece is hot
60 mins chick is sexy
We are a football factory, but we also have academics which most other powers Alabama, LSU, Florida do not have.
not having editing rights. They're going to take quotes out of context too.
Not as bad as a Rosenberg piece though...
Lara Logan is HOT!!!!
Is there a reason we agreed to this?
Building the brand.
Do you think they will talk in-depth about monkey rodeo?
I think the recruiting and exposure is why we agreed to it. I am going to pissed if it turns into a Michigan bashing fest.
I remember a tweet from the guy that did the piece (back when he did the initial interviews) had nothing but good things to say about Hoke and Dave Brandon.
At U of M yesterday for upcoming 60 piece on big time CFB. AD Brandon and HC Hoke at head of the class when it comes to it.
He's from Detroit.
Potential recruits' grandparents might watch Sixty Minutes. I kind of doubt recruits will care one way or the other though.
Is going to be Tosh.0!
Off topic - our B1G/ACC opponent #6 NC State is currently losing to unranked OK St by 15 with 8 mins to play. ESPN2
Edit- 20 pt lead for OK St with 3 mins left. Damn. Would have been nice to have them undefeated when we play them.
I love Cheerios!!!
This infant research piece is very intriguiing. Personally, I believe the early results point towards the belief that humans have a genetic basis for a basic sense of morality (taking out any early conditioning the infants experience).
Watching 60 minutes for the Michigan report, but fascinated by this peice on baby morality.
Can someone do a study on puppy morality? I refuse to believe my 6 month old has a bad heart...even as he's pissing all over the wood floors
Here we go.
They showed the part of the student section that was empty right before kickoff!!!! freakout!!!
We want a 3-ring circus
In a positive light!
Horrible business model. That's for sure.
They are interviewing Saban now
I was sure the sentance "Saban is at the forefront of another escalating trend in college football" was going to end with "paying players"
I thought they were going to say oversigning
Saban coming off like an Ahole. Standard
The Pimp Hand rules!
At least they didn't show us getting blown out
Cal spent $300 Million to upgrade their stadium? I remember not long ago, the alumni were livid when the school lowered its admission standards for athletes.
That's insane for a school that can only get 60 something thousandpeople per game
It was essentially rebuilt. Being located on a fault line! Will run up costs
My sport management class is currently discussing the business of college sports. Interesting story
Damn that Towson coach is pissed
This is a really good feature on how football brings the big bucks to college programs
At least our fans (except the students) show up better than SEC SEC SEC schools against baby seals
This is Michigan fer Godsakes!
THIS IS MICHIGAN FERGODSAKESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
I gotta say this makes our program look pretty incredible.
completely agree. they could've explained the leadership aspect of the navy seals experience better, but other than that, pretty pleased.
Came across as the right look and feel of a solid program. Happy with it for sure.
That was a great piece. You couldn't of bought that advertisment for a million dollars.Brady and Brandon making Michigan fans out of everyone.
What a great spotlight for the program and university, Brandon probably set it up so we have to give him credit, albeit begrudgingly.
This was tremendous. Showed the superiority of our program while demonstrating how down to earth our leadership is. This will pay dividends. Good stuff Dave
Has more story you can get online at their website....sponsored by Pfizer.
That was awesome for Michigan. Beat Ohio!
So...I missed it, because my DVR recording of 60 Minutes ended before our segment aired...thanks, NFL game. Any chance CBS will post this on their website?
Brandon, Hoke & DR treated very well.
Downside: Hoke didn't point at the camera or say Boo Boo.
Well that highlighted a lot of the very real concerns with "amateur" athletics without being a hatchet job. Color me pleasently surprised.
Suck it freep -- that was awesoMe!!!
...is that Mike Wallace, the gentleman who created 60 Minutes, is a Michigan alum. I wonder if the current producers remembered that when the decided to pick out a school for this segment.
He also donated a house to the post-graduate Journalism Fellowship that operates on the edge of campus. I used to do contract IT work there, and I had the chance to meet Mr. Wallace while clad in my orange Hawaiian shirt and jeans, shortly after I'd been falsely accused of robbing the Union.
/end cool story bro
you ignorant worthless nothings. Great reading thought
So we offered Reschke today?
I ventured over there just so see what they were saying, and besides a "LOL Hoke is FAT!!!" thread, I saw a thread about getting turned on by the Verizon commercial where the wife sends a dirty video to her husband.
There's days I'm really glad that MGoBlog is the way it is, and today is one of those days
Link for those interested
You know who wasn't featured on 60 Minutes? That's right, Ohio State.
Would have been pretty entertaining to watch Gene Smith try to pull this off though
Nor Moo U.
or Notre Dame
Twin city socks cameo in the ice tub!
I wasn't able to watch tonight, but reading through this thread reminded me of a broken play that Denard turns to gold.
I'm happy to see most people thought it was good.
I cringed when Denard agreed with the reporter's leading question that football is 24hrs a day.
I can imagine the Free Press filing for an investigation with the NCAA.
HAHAHAHA I miss that idiot. Used to listen every day when I lived in Windsor. Wish I could've heard his excuses for that 12-10 loss this year.
pwned? What are you, like 12?
Yes, because Michigan State is instituting profit-sharing for their players, because we all know that Dantonio puts the welfare of his players above anything else....oh wait, evidence seems to indicate that ISN'T true.
For Valenti to suggest that Michigan operates it's athletic department in a manner less ethically than any other program is disingenuous and hypocritical. What a jealous, petty asshole.
I hope they give us more from the cutting room floor down the road. Really good for Michigan
They did... the link is posted earlier in this thread.
For convenience, here's the link to the 5 minute bit on Michigan that was not aired:
You guys have got to check out the ~4:50 mark... a guy tried to get a mini "touch the banner" made so that when his wife gives birth and the baby comes out, the first thing the baby sees is the banner. Classic!
WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!?!?
Genius. Pure genius.
What's scary is there will be a lot of people copying this idea now. And with facebook and blogs like this I'm certain we'll be seeing pics. haha....
Unfortunately, I cannot imagine too many women being pleased with the prospect of having their hoo ha framed by "Go Blue, M Club Supports You" while they are crowning.
I wonder how much our PSL are going to rise?
Chill... Barnacle Bill isn't the AD anymore.
It was some sweet prime time action. And I love that hoke's "fergodsakes" was in there.
Great segment. Actually watched it twice. Check out 60 minutes overtime for extra features that didn't make the aired segment.
Did you watch the whole thing - there were three segments - drugs, babies and college football.
I just proved their point by buying the $5 60 Minutes app on my iPad that I won't ever use again.
