Michigan #4 In South Region, Facing South Dakota State In Auburn Hills
4 seed playing South Dakota St
(Slight Mod Edit - the one thread will suffice, of course. LSA)
Shaka is a college buddy (Kenyon undergrad, Michigan grad school for me), and I would love to see that matchup in the second round. I love all of the teams who play fast, becuase Michigan is almost unwatchable in the half court (esp. if teams can keep Burke from getting the ball). This should play to our advantage, and you've got to beat the best to the be the best. Let's enjoy the ride, and hope that Trey and company can make some memories for us before the team turns over a little next year. This was a special team to watch, and we should enjoy it while all of these guys are still here.
Yep, that's their website. They lost to Minnesota at Minneapolis, 88-64. They beat IUPUI twice. Also, their colors are yellow and blue...
With this bracket, we can either lose in the first game or make it to the Final Four.
He immediately tweeted that SD St pt grd is better than Trey......screw that fat turd

I think the biggest thing we had to avoid in the 1st two rounds was a team that had some sort of interior size/rebounding advantage over us. If we shoot so poorly that we lose to SDSU then we DESERVE the loss. And against VCU, it is strength on strength. We are the the best at preventing turnovers, they are the best at causing them. So bring it--I bet our guys can keep the turnovers limited enough to keep VCU from getting too many cheap points while at the same time I expect several fast break dunks coming after Burke & Co. break the press down.
It won't be easy, but what HAS been easy for this team in the last month? If they don't start playing better then they have been it won't matter past the first weekend anyway.
we had trouble for a few minutes against the psu press. other than that, we've had no trouble all year long.
we have 4 starters that can handle the ball the ball a bit. plus they will have size and athleticism advantage. that is key to breaking the press and getting easy dunks.

in which running down the clock was in our favor.
If we get pressed in the first half, we won't need to be cautious, just beat it and go dunk the ball. Or hit Stauskus for the wide open three.
And yes, Trey can handle the ball a bit. So can McGary as a relief option when we don't need to worry about his foul shooting.
If Miami was the 2 seed out West OSU would be a 2 in same region IU is 1 seed.I looked at it briefly and I don't see any way Miami and Gonz could have been 1-2 in same region without breaking the rule re teams in same confer playing each other before reg final or ending up with a region with IU #1 and OSU #2 is same region.
I think they go by distance instead of No. 1 seed when placing the 2s. As in OSU is the weakest No. 2, so they play farthest from home. The No. 1 seed in the region is irrelevant.
Have to be a very happy man today.
I'm in love with the draw. You're probably actually pretty happy too. KU is a tough matchup for Michigan, but things are pretty ok for you guys otherwise.
Motto of this team needs to be...
"JUST WIN."
I guess we've gotta play whoever we've gotta play, but it's a bit offensive to be a 4 seed, when an 8-loss Big East team is a 3, a 7-loss SEC team is a 3 and a 5-loss whatever-the-fuck-conference-UNM-is team. We're a 7-loss B1G team that was top-10 the entire season.
Oh well, that's my gripe. Time to win out.
ill accept a 4 seed as long as we stay home in Auburn Hills...HUGE! i
I don't know if you guys have looked at the entire bracket...but look out world. The B1G got some very nice draws...
Is it going to happen? No. But you could make a legitimate case for 5 or 6 B1G teams to make it to the Elite 8.
first time ever 5 teams in the same conf make the final 4.
why cant we play tennessee in the first round?
I'm really surprised at all the fear over VCU. They're a team that preys on poor ball handling and lack of athleticism - two things we don't have a problem with. They'll also be basically be playing a road game.
All the games they lost were to teams that had good guards. They're a good version of Arkansas. I also like that NC State could knock off Kansas.
turned the ball over a lot, but we get hyper when we see open court, Hardaway especially, he makes very sketchy decisions in the open court sometimes.
Our biggest challenge in that game will be deciding when to take the bait and beat them at the own game and make them pay for pressing and when to pull it back out and run a half court set. If we are able to beat the press consistently there could be a ton of open threes for our wings. My biggest fear is the JB will play it just break the press and regroup at half court. VCU is a team that could beat us, they are also a team that we could run out of the gym like Tenessee 2011 if we take it to them after we break the press.
Coach B likes the small lineup with Spike and Trey in at same time so I wonder if we'll see a lot of that if we play VCU?
We'll need another ball handler.
That said playing against Victor Oladipo probably helps Burke, but we'll still need another ball handler.
I'd play both together and go 2-3 for extended minutes. Make them shoot over you, if they start making shots, go back to man-to-man and out-talent them to a win.
I think McGary has to be the X-Factor vs. SDSU on the boards. And I agree with a poster earier in this thread that GRIII should have an impact vs. VCU against their pressure.
So where are the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games being played for our bracket?
Arlington,Texas
I like our draw a lot. I'm looking at the other 3 seeds and i dont see one that i think has an easier path than we do to the Elite 8.
You said the other 3 seeds, but we're a 4. But I'm sure you may have meant that we may have a better draw than the 3-seeds.
I meant the 3's. That's the slot we were thinking (hoping) we'd get. I'm not sure we're not in a better place being a 4 all things considered. I wouldnt want MSU's path that's for sure.
I like how little schools like SDSU have gone to these commercially-designed logos, whereas the big boys like Kansas can stick with the old-school paint-by-numbers type.
queme los barcos.
Nate Wolters is going to be a challenge. Burke is really gonna have to take it to him. SDSU's 24 point loss at Minnesota was without Wolters, so not entirely indicative of what they're capable of. They also had an impressive road win at 3 seed New Mexico.
Wolters had a 50 point game earlier this year as well. Here's his game log: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/players/89494
Well, a partial one anyway.
I didn't want to go to far with this yet, but using some calculations from Massey's matchup estimating, the hypothetical matchups here would present a fairly decent road to start. For those that don't care for tables, the most likely sceanrio based on Massey's assumptions would create Michigan / VCU and Kansas / UNC matchups, with a 62% probability of advancing to face the survivor of Kansas / UNC.
Does anybody have an idea when the game times will be announced?
ESPN will be 1st to have it
