Meta: MGoBlog on the Road

Submitted by Seth on

We'd like to do some more live events this year in various cities (or at road games) that are worth visiting and have a large contingent of MGoFollowers, and I've been in contact with several former players who want to be part of such things, be it at a bar for a Q&A during an off weekend, or an away game tailgate.

The keys are sponsorship and venue. "You guys should come to my city" doesn't help, but if you think you could help organize a dig worthy of your fellow readers' shins in your city and can put us in touch with a sponsor to make it worthwhile, let me know. New York and Washington, D.C. are probably already taken care of; those Alumi Associations already have Brian out there each year.

The one we definintely want to make happen is Notre Dame, if, say, you are in with some South Bend people who'd want to make an impression on a Michigan crowd.

Email me if you think you can help, even if it's just to put us in touch with your local alumni association leader or whatnot.

You could have one here in Cleveland and the featured event would be Brian and Space Coyote debating the premise "Al Borges - misunderstood genius" with Space taking the "Pro" side (because obviously) and Brian taking the "Con" side (because equally obviously).

Seriously though - I would imagine you have a lot of followers here in Northern Ohio who would attend although getting a corporate sponser to identify publicly with Michigan sports might be a challenge.

I think somewhere in the Cleveland area would get a good amount of people. I don't really know "Michigan friendly" venues, but there are quite a few breweries out this way that everyone could enjoy. If there are two things Cleveland does well, it's eating and drinking. You probably know better than I do (I've only officially been here for about a year). I doubt anyplace in Ohio City would pick it up. Fatheads I don't think would (though they may?). Not really familiar with stuff south of the Airport or with this type of venue on the east side. Any guesses?

Not far from A2, but loads of Michigan fans down here.  Tony Packo's does a "border war" type of thing and tries to stay neutral for the OSU/UM games.  I'd be willing to check into some things if you can provide more information as to what a "sponsor" means for your needs - just a place to setup - or are you looking for a place willing to host and provide food and libations?

If Toledo is too close, I understand...but Toledo WAS part of Michigan at one time.  Let's reignite the Ohio/Michigan war of 1835!  Make Toledo a Michigan City again!

I'm always drinking in Oxford. Surprising about of UM fans there. And you could incorporate the "Cradle of Coaches" history into an event. That's actually where the Woody/Bo thing starts.

Dog went to my high school. Loved hearing the story from the old football coach about how his proudest moment was when Carr sat in his office and told him he wanted Kevin to play at Michigan.

Any chance there are enough people stuck in SEC country to warrant a event down here?

I'm in Huntsville, AL. Decent number of Michigan alumni with all the engineering in town. Maybe Atlanta or Nashville for higher population areas? I'd be willing to drove a bit.

Yes, we have crickets!

Maybe if the hockey team does a weird out-of-conference game in 2019? Well, er, how about Minneapolis then? I'd probably drive five hours.

So then all we have to do is get a time machine, go back to 2009, change the outcome of the tournament, and change the NCAA rules, while...wait, what was this place up to back then? Oh wait, year one of GERG. I'm staying here.

Just because, it's San Diego, and it's 75 degrees here today.  San Diego: Home of Ron Burgundy.  The whale's vagina.

I know there are also a decent amount of MGoBloggers here, too.

Anywho, I gotta run...I'm going down the street to watch the Farmers Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines.  /s
