META: MGoBlog loading very slowly

Submitted by crg on January 15th, 2020 at 5:42 PM

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but it's been painfully slow loading any pages today.  I tried on a few different devices (including phone on mobile data) - all slow.

It's better than the Drupal errors of old, but taking 2 minutes to load a simple page is a bit much.

Still an issue for me to the extent that this is the first time today that I got a page to load and/or waited long enough for it to load.

Figured it was just the 'normal' issues so wasn't concerned during the day but the first thing I checked tonight was the Mgoblog Twitter account....and nary a mention of the issue.

I am not a (regular) Twitter user and the only other 'suggested' person on the sidebar for me was Ace and a click to his page also didn't show any posts about the site being unusable/down.  More specifically, I did not have Seth's handle committed to memory and check *his* history.

I couldn't care less about points and I already knew with the HUEL announcement that I wouldn't like the new layout but FFS if life is getting in the way then sell the site.

Long past the time to make the “it’s not Brian’s fault” argument. He’s the owner/CEO. He’s responsible. Not that you will ever hear from him about any of the failings of the Blog, or more important how and when problems will be fixed. Of course a simple “sorry guys but I am dedicated to making this work better” post would be step 1 for most CEO’s but don’t bet on that happening.

You know I was hoping that it was like the old days where some big news happened (like Christopher commit) and it led to everyone flooding to here to post

Could you imagine chipmunks stalking the entrance to the facility with picket signs, furiously, menacingly, guarding their turf?  Taking hostages...  Just a defiant, irreverent, violent display... And Ronald Reagan negotiating with them, begging them to return to duty, so our Mgo experience can be like butter?  I certainly do, every time this happens.

I don’t think the MGoOverlords appreciate the withdrawal symptoms and anxiety associated with MGoSiteIssues, especially when a heavy user is traveling for business and craving the sweet release

It's particularly META to click on a post about the site loading slowly and have it load slowwwwwly.

Word on the street is that the MGoHamsters powering the servers are on a work slowdown; they're demanding that Brian pay their donation to the athletic dept for football tickets, an increase in their daily allotment of sunflower seeds, weekends off, and free hamster porn.
