META: Any way to just sticky a sign related opinion open thread?

Submitted by ImRightYouKnow on October 25th, 2023 at 10:32 AM

Mods: It feels like the longer this thing drags on, the more opinion and trash theory posts we're going to see, without bringing any new facts.

Any chance we could just open a single post for people to spew their two cents, and keep the board clean for actual sports news?

But then everyone's very unique and important opinion will get buried at the bottom of a thread and not displayed front and center for all to see!

Your comment brings up another distinction between this site and most others I frequent.  On most other sites, the date and time of a post places the thread in a relative position to other threads.  The thread with the latest activity is first on the list.  As activity wanes, the thread moves down the page and eventually is no longer seen on page 1.

Why Mgoblog chooses to do things differently is beyond me.

I'm voting for a daily diary summarizing the last 24 hours of news if anyone is willing to do it, plus maybe a daily Sign Stealing Snowflake thread to contain thread spread.

Agreed, we don't need a thousand different opinion threads just regurgitating the same argument over and over.  Just lump all the *new* information into a daily thread and keep the hawt takes in a snowflake thread.

If this board is just gonna beat this dead horse without giving us relevant, new information than spare me

Additionally, what does Pate Thamel have to do to get added to the list of banned media sources? He clearly has forsaken his duties as a journalist to pen propaganda on behalf of leakers from the NCAA, and it’s not the first time he’s engaged in this type of sensationalism. When Ohio lost to Clemson, he dutifully gave credence to Day’s suspicion that Clemson was stealing signs. Also, his extensive coverage of Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend is a black mark on his credibility. Pete practices yellow journalism. Full stop.

I think if the Mgoboard was a little more functional in terms of page navigation I might agree. But I find it very difficult to get past the first page of any thread and still keep track of what's being discussed. So for me at least, the reality is I get through maybe 20 or 30 responses to each thread topic and don't see anything that comes after that.

If we had "sort bys" to filter things reddit-style, to see most upvoted, most controversial, etc., and be able to condense sub-threads that I'm not interested in, than I'd be more inclined to support the mega-threads

I get the sentiment, but personally would hate that for the sole reason that it would necessitate wading through a thousand plus comment post to find actual news as it arises. It really isn't that big of a deal to have all the posts IF you navigate board posts via the actual board page, as opposed to the front page sidebar.

But that's exactly the point.  If there is actual news, post it.

But what we're getting bombed with now is not news, it's the very special, unique threads where the OP gives us HIS VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHTS AND SPECULATIONS ON THINGS, not news.

The Bacon thread is news.  The other three are just posts that OPs thoughts that easily could've been made inside one of the other 100 threads discussing this.

Great idea except the Hawt Taeke thread creators never feel their Hawt Taeke is a Hot Taeke.  In fact they generally get insulted when you call the post for that as they honestly believe their VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHTS ON THINGS are unique, special and worthy of independent discussion.

What would be cool (and therefore completely impossible here) would be a system like Twitter's community notes where the masses could determine if the thread was a hawt taeke or legitimate breaking news.

Yep, this would be fantastic. Over half the front page(s) of the message board is taken up by "investigation" threads.

So yeah, OP's username checks out.
