META: Airing of Grievances - Bye Week Edition

Submitted by MGoClimb on

Just as our beloved Wolverines need to sort some things out over the bye week, so too do we on MGoBoard.  Whether it’s the narrow wins against Akron and UConn or the discussion of recruits, I think we can all admit that things have been more than a little tense around here.  In that light, I am creating an Airing of Grievances: Bye Week Edition thread.

Mods, if you feel this isn’t the right time, or if it spirals out of control, feel free to take this down.  However, I believe this is necessary.

TheGhostofChappuis and BlueDragon – I’ve been thinking about making this for a few days.  Thanks for finally convincing me to do it.

Blah blah blah self-moderating blah blah blah.  I wasn’t around back then.

Time to let it all out, folks.  Go.

I guess as long as we're airing grievances, I'll say I found David From Wyoming to be a pretty annoying poster. The vast majority of your posts seemed to be some variation of "this thread is stupid / this comment is stupid / this OP is stupid / why is this on the board". Even though I agreed with you sometimes, it seemed you were ubiquitous without ever actually adding anything constructive or interesting. Plus, when I click on a thread I want to read about that topic without having to wade through a dozen "this is stupid" posts, and I just sort of mentally ascribed all of those to you. That may have been unfair.

Tha said, I actually thought you were better behaved then normal last night and I found your thoughts at least interesting and not particularly nasty in any way.

Now I have absolutely zero connection to Brian or any of the mods, but I guess if it were my blog I may have banned or suspended your account (among others) last night because it seemed like the easiest way to take the steam out of a rapidly snowballing discussion without nuking the whole board. Basically you were a highly visible target that was adding momentum (though not really nastiness) to the mess, and somebody needed to get whacked. Just a theory though.

To be fair, I kind of agree with him/her. When you bring a point or reason to your arguement, you are a fine poster with valuable insight. But just because you think something is dumb doesnt mean you have to point it out all the time. You could just not click on the post?

I guess I'm saying you could probably lighten up or whatever.

but, i don't think someone should be banned just because they annoy a lot of people.

I think opinions that annoy or are contrary to popular opinion can spark good discussion... or at the very least a bit of entertainment.

Who wants to read a board full of a bunch of boring, like-minded yes men?  Weak

This has been as much a cause of the bitchy demeanor of the board as the almost losses, if not more. Shitty, flamebait comments were quickly moderated and hidden before but now stick around and get responded too and devolve pretty quickly into fights where everyone has to get the last word in.

pretty sorely needed after last night and the last two weeks.

1. People who personally insult players during Live Blogs. Yeah, it's heat of the moment, but come on, would you say that to me in person?

2. People who make everything an either-or proposition. Often times, the answer lies more towards the middle.

3. Netflix. No Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, or Looney Tunes. Why do I pay for this?
