Also ranked 13 in the coaches poll.  Kenpom has Michigan at 27, and the CBS RPI has Michigan at 26.  ESPN Bracketology has Michigan a 5 seed currently, which is around top 20.

I know we lost once last week but we beat a decent Wisky and a basket away from being the #7 team. Not asking for a huge bump but a couple up!

EDIT: Didn't see our ranking from AP last week (actually went up). I was going off of ESPN's. My bad.

According to the Michigan Basketball Record Book, the #13 ranking is the team's highest since the final regular season rankings of the 1997-98 season, when U-M was ranked 12th (in both polls). It was the previous season (1996-97) that the team was last ranked in the top 10--to be exact, December 31, 1996, when they were ranked 8th in the AP and 5th in USA Today/CNN. That was Steve Fisher's last season as coach.

I think that #13 is a bit high subjectively, but when I think about teams in the country that would be ranked higher, I have a hard time envisioning more than 15-16 teams with better resumes.

Sweet.  And just as importantly we've moved all the way up to #26 in the critical RPI rankings as well.  We are now only three slots behind that vaunted basketball program Long Beach State (#23) with their guady 8-6 record.  But to be fair they did get that signature win over #230 Cal Poly last week and when you couple that victory with their most recent triumph over Cal State University - Northridge (#288) you understand just how accurate the RPI rankings really are.  They just need to take care of business this week against UC Davis (#344) and Pacific (#307) and i'm sure they'll move back up into the top 15 where they obviously belong.

13 is perfect in my mind. If we were another couple spots higher I would be okay with that also. When this team is playing the basketball they're capable of, which is fairly frequently, it's hard to argue they aren't a top 10-15 team. All the losses they have are pretty damn "good losses", if such a thing. Indiana and Duke are very good and Virginia as we know plays some pretty good ball (interested to see how they finish the year and if they can hang with Duke/UNC near the top of the ACC). LBS in fact is a pretty decent team, look out for them in March (yes, they play some low quality teams out West!). And of course ignoring the RPI right now would do us all a bit-o'good!

I like where this team is right now. Not too high and not too low. The game against state on the 17th will be the biggest game between us in a long time. GO BLUE!!
