Mel Tucker 2.0

The news is in and their staff is complete… While the defensive staff looks _good_ I think this team is still 6-6 next year

Hard to say at this point. They lost a lot of starters on defense. I would think their O-line will be better, it would be hard to be much worse. It will be interesting to see if they try and get a transfer QB. If they can’t find a transfer QB it could be a long season. Just seems to be a lot of hype for a coach who was 5-7 last year.

OP is a Detroit area radio host. Either he’s drunk or he’s trying to drum up some calls for his show late on a Friday night.

What does the title even mean? Mel Tucker has upgraded? He had a kid? His last coach hire is a cloned version of himself to be DC?
There’s another mediocre coach who just signed a big contract?

Tough schedule. Sitting here right now there are like 2 games where they'll take the field as the clear favorite. If he pulls 6-6 and an upper half of the division, strong candidate for Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Difficult schedule, first year coach with only one previous HC year under his belt, significant off season transfers, turmoil, underwhelming recent recruiting classes.  I think this is a 5-7 or likely worse team.  It is hard to imagine them making a bowl game this season.

The play Miami BYU in the non conference and Iowa Michigan Ohio state Minnesota penn state. Assuming they beat everyone else that puts them at 5-7. I think at best 7-5 and at worst 4-8

They need to strike gold in the transfer portal or get incredibly lucky with turnovers to hit 6-6. I think only 4 wins are more likely than 6.

Their roster is a disaster with very little explosiveness or depth. Top players graduated or left early - Wiiliams, Bachie, Willikes, Scott, White, Stewart, old Panaciuk. Lewerke was absolutely awful and no one even threatened to displace him. Their D was the only decent unit and it’s gutted. Simmons might be the only guy to reach 2nd team all-B1G this year.

Tucker might be a better coach than his track record and he might boost recruiting, but MSU has probably 2-3 years of sub .500 or mediocrity until the roster can be rebuilt.

It might be 2-3 years before anyone knows if this is going to work. Tucker will need a few classes, and he is in the unenviable position of being under the scrutiny of a fanbase that would probably do something highly immoral but also physically challenging to the Spartan statue to get back to early to mid-Dantonio performance.

I assumed the OP's title meant that just like Tucker seems grossly overpaid given his experience, so too will his assistants. Except for the DC, aren't all the the assistants recycled CU and MSU coaches, just with, presumably, significant pay increases?
