with absolute confidence that we win the NC last year if we had a healthy McGary. That outside offense with a big of his athletic skill set? We'd have won the whole dang thing. We had a major improvement in his replacement that will always be beloved by UM fans for his grit but having him on the floor at the same time or relieving Mitch would have been crazy. We'd have had subs. NC subs. I cannot be convinced otherwise seeing how we could have & would have beat UK with more inside presence & UCONN not being that great. The last MBB & CFB champions went through fields (season for osu, tourney for UCONN) full of some big names that were down. In each case they had to beat multiple good teams but not a single great team. I knew if osu got in the playoff the only competition was Bama as TCU would be out. It happened and in the regular season they played zero truly great teams. A few solid teams but no great ones. Not even Bama was great, just the best of the season & playoff field. UCONN limped into the tourney & beat some historically big-time teams in name but not a single one that was necessarily great at the time. I didn't think they'd make it but wasn't shocked they did. IMHO, no homerism, our team last year w/ a healthy Mitch gets by UK & likely beats UCONN easily in the NC game.....unless clean backboard blocks are still fouls lol

Depends on if we stuck to our plan to appease GR3 and Mitch. Original plan was to have Mitch at the 4, GR3 at the 3, and roll with Morford at the 5. The lineup with LeVert was obviously much better. If Mitch continued his role from his freshman year and played as a more skilled JMo, then yes I agree with you. But I think if he were healthy, Beilein would be more inclined to help him expand his game, which with the benefit of hindsight we now know possibly would've come at the team's detriment.

OKC has had a lot of injuries in the post, which is part of it, and he's gotten into some foul trouble, but I have no idea why he has had DNP games since his breakout.

McGary's streaky as hell.  After he blew open his career with back-to-back double-doubles he did this against Memphis:

15 MP, 0/3 FG, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 6PF

. . . the dude missed everything and fouled out in 15 minutes.

He's been up and down.  He'll be fine; life of a young star in the NBA is learning, having teams adjust to you, then adjusting to the adjustments, so this will happen.  But OKC is kind of trying to juggle their injury-depleted frontcourt with McGary's inexperience.  They want to bring him along slowly but they're forced to play him.  Not that I think they're doing a great job managing his minutes, but I get the position they're in.

Great to see.  For Michigan, having former players succeed on the biggest stage really does help.  It was a dumb penalty that drove him to the NBA, but I'm happy that he's finding success given real concerns about his back going into last year/this year's draft.

It's great seeing Mitch doing the damn thing in the league, but it's kind of depressing too. What could have been. But, he's ballin' his ass off, and he's getting money so

but, I've never found an answer to this. Does anybody know if the Oregon WR, Darren Carrington, who was suspended for the NC game for testing positive for marijuan, received the same punishment that McGary did, being suspended for the whole next season? If I remember correctly, McGarry would have had to sit out this past season because he tested positive during last season's championship tournament. I know the results came out a few months later, whereas Carrington's results came out right away, but they seem to be similar situations. I still wonder if McGary is the only player ever to receive this particular punishment.
