The Crystal Ball over at 247Sports, which has been wrong before but is amusing to look at all the same sometimes, has 53 predictions of varying vintage registered and the two leaders in their opinion are MSU (51%) and Michigan (25%). The longer shots, in their collective estimation, are OSU and Florida State.

If the criteria were football, academics, and close to home, where- if not Michigan? Are Northwestern and Vanderbilt too far away? I don't see a compromise choice there. Party schools or Michigan. I'm afraid my two college student kids both decided that Michigan seemed like where fun goes to die.

He has departed from this board. Not sure why, I thought he was well liked. (or tolerated? I liked him)

Also, not sure why some multi-time MgoReincarnated trolls stick around and pretend they are life long Michigan fans. What evs

Usually when people say they "hate to say it", they apparently don't really hate it and say whatever it was they claim to have hated saying. You, however, evidently really hated to say it, and so you didn't. I don't mind saying that your honesty is commendable.

As long as it's either us or Florida St. I don't think any of us should reasonably be upset with his selection.

What makes this darkly interesting is the list of possible (that is, non-UMich) ugly outcomes:

* MSU (where he'd be one of the best in-state recruits even to pick Sparty over Michigan at the very end ... can't remember when T.J. Duckett and Charles Rogers decided or whether they had Michigan offers)

* OSU (Urban Meyer, Michigan-to-Ohio {which is rare}, bolstering a class that's already better than ours)

* FSU (a top-notch recruiting leaving the Midwest for ESS-EEE-SEE speed, even though it's not really the SEC)

Probably would be on par with Lawerence Thomas.  Rogers was recruited by Michigan but wasn't going to qualify made his recruitment a little murky.  Carr definetly wanted him but it seemed like he was always a State lean.  TJ was a big time recruit with a Michigan offer but nobody thought we had a chance because of Tico.

TJ definitely had a Michigan offer. Lloyd Carr personally went to a high school game his Senior year. I lived 2 blocks from his school at the time. It's the biggest recruiting miss of an instate guy I've ever seen. I wanted him at Michigan so badly.

The phrase "Man among boys" certainly applied to him in high school. Beast.

I will be happy with this class as it stands, but McDowell would be a great addition.  Just hope that McDowell makes whatever decision is best for him.

I think it's between FSU and UM.  We keep hearing he really wants to go to State, but I think reading between the lines his real favorite is FSU if he is allowed to go away for school.  He may prefer the atmosphere at MSU over UM but if his parents and namely his dad let him make his own decision its FSU if it is a family decision UM is the choice.  MSU or OSU may be the compromise choice, but if his dad is truly a Michigan fan it may be easier to let him go to FSU.

to have the internet, care about CFB but absolutely refrain from the following of recruiting? I do badly want to go back to the days where I see the first UM game (home or live) and just hear/see who is clearly our "next big thing". I'm only 30 and I want this as the last was Braylon, rocking #80 as a Freshman vs Washington (iirc). I knew of a few recruits before that but due to Parade Magazine after NSD or when a local kid goes somewhere. Is this even possible anymore: Have tv, internet, phone, love CFB, know nothing about recruiting/recruits? I swear it truly has gotten out of hand. The Cameron story just did me in. I don't want to know anymore lol.

No one knows for sure.  At this point McDowell probably didnt even make up his mind.

We know his parents like M.  No use speculating anymore.  We all hope he goes Blue (except for the Trolls out there) so just sit back, enjoy some M hoops and Super Bowl and wait for Wednesday.

that he announces a time and date right after the Michigan in-home and before he visits OSU. That tells me the Suckeyes are out, and maybe, just maybe Brady and Mattison worked a little magic on their visit.

What about a shift in Michigan recruiting, generally? What about perceptions about the progams in-state and otherwise? He's not a traditional MSU guy, someone who grew up near there, &c. If Malik goes to MSU and Michigan can't pick themselves up this year, I'd be worried about the wider potential implications.
