MBB Secret Scrimmage
So apparently Michigan plays there first exhibition game against Bowling green on November 1. The catch is that fans cant attend and no statistics are recorded. A team can play open exhibition games or "secret" games. Any ideas why Beilein would want to do this now? Discuss

Because they are trying out a new offensive line...damn it! I said too much...I was never here.

This is pretty standard operating procedure in college basketball. I think teams can have two closed scrimmages against another team a year.

also, this is not the first year michigan has done this. I am too lazy to find a link, but I am positive Beilein has had one of these at least once before.

Pretty cool. It'd be cool if we could do this in football instead of a spring game - except have it be open. It'd be nice to play a Bowling Green instead of a glorified practice

Hoke has been pretty vocal about wanting the ability to scrimmage other schools during camp.
Not that anyone wants to hear anything positive re. Hoke at the moment.

I understand other teams do this i mean why would Beilein do it this year? i dont remember he has ever done it before or has he?

We have a young team, so why not do this?

I think Beilein's had one every season. It's incorrect to say we could have a closed scrimmage or exhibition games. We do both.

this has happened before. But above, I was too lazy to find the link. Since you asked again, I decided to find one.
Here, "secret scrimmage" is not something Beilein hasn't done at Michigan before:

He does it every year.

In a closed scrimmage like this, they probably aren't playing 20 minute halves. They can set the format up however they want. They can take longer breaks then what a time out would allow to go over coaching points.

I wish Hoke had done this for all 12 of our football games this year....

They always scrimmage a local team.

Because were a basketball school

to know people associated with the basketball team for these double secret games. Student managers, staffers, and even the towel boy can usually get a lot of good information even though "no stats are recorded."
