Gattis originally was following Locksley to Maryland and at the last-minute Harbaugh swept in and offered Gattis the Michigan OC job. That is what the beef was about.
Cause it worked out so well in Miami?
Well it worked it pretty well at Michigan...
Did it? We were pretty lackluster most of his tenure, then we took responsibility away from him and the results improved while he received the vast majority of the credit. Then he leaves and we’re even better.
Was it a joke? He won a Broyles Award, got over the OSU hump, won the conference, and we made the CFP with him as OC. I’m sure plenty of people that don’t know the dynamic would look at that and say it did work out well at Michigan. If it’s a joke, it should probably be a little more clear considering it’s a belief many people have.

I thought Locksley badmouthed Gattis when he bolted to us. Something along the lines that he never called any of the plays or something similar.

I don't think they were necessarily that miffed at each other. As far as I can recall the comments were pretty limited to each guy defending his role in Bama's offense. They weren't calling each other bad coaches or anything. I think it was literally a couple comments in response to being asked directly about it during press conferences. It got blown out of proportion.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Locksley was replying to all the crowing out of Ann Arbor that we got the better of the two. I don't think it was directed at Gattis personally.

Josh, here's a sincere pointer: Swallow your apparently unearned pride and recognize you've gotten far surrounded by people who are pretty good at what they do. When you trip up, be humble, accept your learning curve, and figure out that next step, such as:
1. NO BONING HS PLAYER'S MOMS;
2. DON'T BADMOUTH FORMER EMPLOYERS, especially those who gave you your first chance (e.g., James MF Harbaugh) in major roles; and,
3. When in doubt, refer to rule 1 and 2.
